Yeah She Made It On Her Own

In a recent interview, Bruce Willis was asked about his daughter Rumer Willis' career and whether her parents had given her any help at all in getting work. Bruce said, "She sat us down and said, 'I know you two think you're big shots, but I don't want any help'. And she went off and got work on her own."

Umm, Rumer may have gone off and got work on her own, but it isn't like no one in town knew who she was. Lets face it. If Rumer Willis were just some girl from the middle of nowhere coming out to Hollywood there is no way she would have got any of the roles she has so far been given. Bruce Willis and Demi Moore may not have actually called anyone and said for someone to give Rumer a job, but you don't think some producer or studio is not going to go out of their way to get Rumer into some good roles on the off chance that maybe mom or dad will be grateful and end up doing something for that same producer or studio. It is kind of disingenuous of Bruce to say something like this when he must know that it is Rumer's last name and connections that got her an agent that was decent rather than the typical agent someone with no experience gets.

I don't think Rumer has ever gone into a meeting and said, "do you know who I am?" simply because she doesn't need to say that. Everyone knows who she is. It is because of that she got the roles she has been offered. I don't blame Rumer for any of this. It is not her fault that she was born to her parents and certain advantages are going to come her way simply because of that. What I really don't like is for the spin to be put on the whole thing that says Rumer is struggling like any other actress and that she is completely doing it on her own. That simply isn't true.

  1. Kind of disingenuous? It's TOTALLY disingenuous for Bruce to say that. Give me a break. I might buy that Bruce and Demi didn't actually outright call anyone to encourage them to hire Rumer or take her on as a client. I might even buy that Rumer herself has never said "Hi, I'm Bruce & Demi's kid" when looking for an agent or a job. But you're 100% right, Enty--it's because she doesn't have to. And all kinds of agents, producers, etc. are totally going to give her a break in hopes of ingratiating themselves with her parents.

  5. Another twat.

Even if she auditioned under a different name, like any one wouldn't recognize that head and fug face.

  6. (GAH! I've twice created a pithy reply, only to be eaten by the blogger gremlins. Third time's a charm?)

Even in the non-celeb world, if the person doing the hiring knows your parents, you've got an edge over any schmo off the street. Not only that, but Rumer has been going to industry events with her parents since she was a little girl. It'd be hard for her not to be recognized.

  7. I've never seen her in anything. Can she act? Just wondering...

  8. Um, like she's so big that everyone's talking about her acting??? I'm with califblondy. I haven't seen her in anything so great that she's "made" it.

Maybe Daddy means she made a laughingstock out of herself.

    ^..^

  9. let's be honest shall we?

Rumer...while you may be a really nice girl and sweet...you are not 'movie attractive' and therefor we all know damn well it was your name and not your face that got you the gigs. might not be right...but it is what it is.

    the end

  10. Who is Rumer Willis? That picture looks like the girl on the checkout at the Sainsbury's Local up the road.

  11. There's no disguising that Willis chin...
She can thank her memorable face for any acting jobs she has/will get.

  13. Well, I must go with CaliBlonde.. What acting? I haven't seen anything?!

  15. When Chelsea Clinton got accepted into Stanford, Bill didn't claim that her parents had nothing to do with it, even though I'm sure Bill and Hillary placed no phone calls, etc, to help her application.

Bruce and Demi are Rumer's parents. Casting agents know this--you can't miss it, just starting with her damn name without even going into her looks. They cast her for her name, when they cast her, and they cast her in parts where she can't do any harm.

I can't believe that Bruce is either that stupid or believes his own bullshit this much or thinks that we are so stupid that we'll buy this. What an idiot, no matter what. Poor Rumer. I hope she only inherited his ugly chin---it would be a shame if she also inherited his sneakiness.

  18. Ugh. I'm prolly get flamed for saying this but.....

If I were her & had all that $$ & had Demi's p.s. "connections" at my disposal, I'd buy myself a new jaw, chin, & lips if I were serious about a movie career. Her face/head is oddly proportioned & not photogenic AT ALL (although the longer red hair helped). She has a killer bod, but is a serious butterface. Sorry, but the truth hurts.

    /and fyi: I'm a chick. so, yeah.

  19. Nearly all parents are delusional when it comes to their children; Bruce and Demi are no different.

  20. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

No matter how bad he's become, at least Nic Cage changed his name so that he could really make it on his own instead of off his family's name. And Emilio Estevez didn't change his name like Charlie did to ride daddy's fame.

c17, I dunno, I think that face may be beyond help. There's only so much plastic surgery can do. But Demi sure does have one of the best damned doctors out there.

  21. But even if Bruce Willis believes that his daughter gets acting jobs due to her acting talent...

I still can't see anyone spending $11, $12 for a movie because Rumer Willis is starring in it.

If these people do exist, it will make me want to kill myself.
