What About Jared?
I bet when Jared Fogle was in college and weighed 500 pounds he never probably thought that eating Subway sandwiches was anything more than a way to lose weight. Well, a bazillion years later and that decision has basically become his career. Until now. I think that Subway, despite always doing well with Jared's campaigns is ditching him for Michael Phelps.
That's right, Michael Phelps who already has 100 endorsements that he doesn't care about except for the checks and the parties is probably going to be kicking Jared to the curb. Basically Jared has been doing the dirty work for all of these years. I think he has gone to a vast majority of the Subway stores. He travels around the country telling his story and Subway pays him. They don't pay him anywhere close to what they Michael Phelps, who will probably film a couple of commercials and just keep eating McDonalds like he always has.
Does Subway really think that a few spots from Michael Phelps is really going to make the world run to Subway and eat their food? Don't you think the world would be a little more pissed that Jared would be out of a job after everything he did for the company? I think Subway is going to regret this decision.
Let's see what the ratings will be after the switch.
ReplyDeleteI recall Jared being fairly level-headed about his fame. He knew that Subway wouldn't want to use him forever. I'm sure he has stashed away a nice chunk of change. Besides, I'm sure Subway will bring him back in a few years.
ReplyDeleteUgh, this is so bogus coming from an athlete that HAS to eat over 5,000 calories a day and still is hungry, still looks like a rail.
ReplyDeleteMy brother's doctor told him he needs 6000 calories a day. Can you imagine being ordered to eat more ice cream? Bastard!
ReplyDeleteteam jared
ReplyDeletesometimes a good folksy real story like jared works
They should focus and spend less on their spokesperson and more on getting some quality ingredients up in that piece. Subway meat is seriously disgusting.
ReplyDeleteEvery great ad campaign must come to an end. Jared was great and Subway hung onto to him for a long time, but after all these years, it wasn't generating the kind of excitement needed anymore. I doubt the parting was messy. I don't think that Michael Phelps is the right choice for a replacement, but you can't criticize Subway for trying something new.
ReplyDeleteThere is a rumor that Jared started going to Subway in college because it was nearby and he didn't like to leave his room much because he spent most of his time watching internet porn. The weight loss was a surprise benefit. Don't know if that's true but I've heard it more than once.
ReplyDeleteugh, time to get over the Phelps love, it was hot for like a minute and now who cares? plus the more i hear about this tool the more i think he's just a prick who can swim.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a bit of karma for Jared. Rumor has it that he dumped his wife of 6 years(who was with him when he was overweight) after he got famous and got a big head.
ReplyDeleteHopefully he squirreled some of the money away and he can go utilize is college degree somewhere. He did get a degree didn't he?
ReplyDeleteHe should go meet up with Wendy, the former snapple girl.
ReplyDeleteJared had an amazingly long run for just being a fat guy in college who was never going to get laid. How do you go to college and not get laid? Well one way is to be a great big fatty! That is enough incentive alone for a guy to lose weight. Kudos to smart former fatty for killing two with the price of a Subway.
ReplyDeleteSomeone I work with had a flight home and actually sat next to Jared in yes-coach! He said, while a nice guy, all he talked about the entire flight was Subway and couldn't get him to shut up.
ReplyDeleteKnowing how much he obviously loved Subway, I feel bad for him.
Eh, I like Subway and the Jared thing was fun for awhile, but I'm bored of seeing him. I think, too, that they'll bring him back at some point.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I'm not a Phelps phan either. But I don't go to Subway because of the commercials. BTW the five-dollar footlong jingle they have makes me queasy.
A friend of mine saw Jared in person maybe 6 months ago and said that he was getting fat again. That might have something to do with Subway's decision. Still... Michael Phelps? Enough already - I'm tired of looking at his nose.
ReplyDeleteIf I see that Michael Phelps Rosetta Stone commercial one more time, I might commit hari kari.
ReplyDeleteDon't you wish there was a way to block certain commercials, so you don't ever have to see them again? You know, other than recording something and then watching it later. I would have blocked that Rosetta Stone commercial long ago.
ReplyDeleteThis will be short lived. Subway cut him loose before and their sales dropped and they brought him back. He speaks at schools and does wonderful PR work for Subway.
ReplyDeleteMaybe this Fogle can change his name to McLovin and have a bright future too.
ReplyDeletehey douche bag who left the fatty comment, shut the hell up! that said, i agree with most of you that phelps has really shown his true colors as a two dimensional guy who swims, eats a fuck load of food, and plays video games the rest of the time. i am so sick of seeing him on various websites drunkly chasing skirts and grabing asses. i just think while jared may have gotten thin for various reasons he has inspired kids to lose weight, and thats what is important. how the hell is a hole phelps going to inspire the overweight kids who cant relate to him in the first place?
ReplyDeleteas usual, i agree with enty.
Is Subway expensive in the States? It sure as hell is here. $8 for a sandwich, a drink, and a bag of chips. Even McDonald's isn't quite as expensive yet.
ReplyDeleteIce Angel, that's kind of scary! :)
