A Picture Is Worth 1,000 Words

I think that anyone who saw this photo of Guy Ritchie at his 40th birthday party which was taken immediately after Madonna left should have known something was up. I have searched and searched and have barely found any photos were Guy is even smiling during the bazillion years he was married to Madonna. The only time he ever cracks a smile is when one of the kids is around and Madonna is not looking. It is kind of like there is a ban on smiling when she is around.

All the tabloids say that Guy is going to get $300M or some ridiculous amount. He might be entitled to that amount, but I am willing to wager that Guy takes the high road in this thing. As long as Madonna doesn't try and screw him or something, I think Guy will walk away pretty cheaply. I mean look at how happy he is. That has to be worth at least $100M right there. As for Madonna. This will be interesting. Is she going to start dating Alex Rodriguez publicly? Did she slip something in his drink? Madonna's rep made the statement announcing the divorce which means it was probably Madonna's idea. I say probably because most British actors and directors and musicians seem to do a pretty good job of doing their own talking. For some reason it just seems that maybe American celebrities for whatever reason either because they are idiots, or because it makes them feel important, rarely make any announcements on their own. To me it seems much cheaper if you are a celebrity to pick up a phone, make a free call to People and tell them something rather than pay someone $5000 a month or more to do the same thing.

  2. It seems crazy to leave Guy, especially for Arod. It won't be a divorce settlement it will be hazard pay. I do think he cares about her, he was squiring her around, even to her film opening. For some reason this one makes me sad.

  3. I read he's got $35 million of his own money, so he should be just fine without any of her dough. They should've done this years ago. I bet they'll both be a lot happier.

Enty, I thought celebs paid someone to make all their calls.

I am a little bummed out by this myself .. maybe its because I feel like I grew up with Madonna .. kinda like younger people were totally bummed when nick and jessica broke up . i was so hoping all the rumors were false .. but hey, she is the worlds best pr machine and she made it work for her and she did it her way ..

No big surprise with this announcement.

  6. Personally, I've always felt he was too good for her. Madonna, though obviously a business-savvy lady, had always only been marginally talented when compared to women who actually wrote music that had depth, or were able to sing. I don't hate her, just have always been sort of indifferent to her as an artist, but was admittedly mesmerized by her with every incarnation she created for herself. Madonna is an illusion, and I bet the reality of her is a little bit sour.

Maybe now we'll the return of Ritchie and all of his former greatness. No longer Mr.Madonna, he might take the film world by the short hairs again.

All that aside, though, this is sad for the kids. Celebrities tend to frustrate me with their disposable views on marriage.

  8. However much he gets HE EARNED IT....and they both got an adorable little boy...so it wasn't a total waste..

  9. The two of them must have known the marriage was dead when David was adopted. I think Madonna kept up the pretence of a stable marriage so the adoption would go through. Poor little kid.

Guy has been looking so happy lately, I feel pleased he's escaped. Oh, and can Madonna bugger off home now please?

  11. Madonna has changed a lot in her life for him, devoted herself to him. Changed her work schedule to be with him when he was working, didn't cut her hair because he doesn't like short hair, moved to London because he hates NY, etc. She's given plenty of herself to him and to blame this all on her is a bit dumb. We don't know what exactly went wrong, but to blame it on person alone is stupid! Besides, Liz Rosenberg has been Madonna's publicist since the early 80's and ALWAYS makes statements for the couple, so why not this one? As far as I know Guy doesn't have a publicist!

  12. Maybe she should just marry a gay man who would worship the ground she walks on. Guy just seemed a little to independent to stay with her for the long haul. Seems like she would get a bit tiresome after a while.

  13. Please. this is Madonna, did any of us reallly see her married to one dude till death?

sorry she doesn't exactly exuuuude white picket fences.

  14. Guy doesn't need a publicist, he has a Father who is outspoken. I can't wait to hear from him.

I thought Guy was good for Madonna because he called her on her BS. I saw them interviewed once when they first got together and he didn't take any of her crap. She tried to force him to say when he first fell in love with her and he totally blew her off. It was funny.

  15. OK, so a while back I read Christopher Ciccone's book about her. I don't really recommend it, but what he has to say about Guy and their marriage, kind of sheds light on this divorce.

Hopefully they will stay somewhat civil, for the sake of their kids.

  16. I think they will, Harriet. Their attys will work out some kind of agreement. It's not like either one needs $$ though I'd expect him to pay some support for his two children.

  17. I hope this means that Madonna won't go back to that stupid British accent.

Also, Madonna moved to London because she said that there are better laws there protecting her children from paparazzi.

  18. Are you sure that's Guy? I had no idea he even had teeth, as I have never seen them. That pic is really funny and explains so much. I also can't see Guy being the make version of Heather Mills.

  19. I must have been in a coma, when the hell did Guy escape her veiny, man hand clutches? Does she lose custody of her fake English accent? Or will she get visitation rights to it? Will she re-adopt her old atrocious NYC accent?

  20. I's surprised they stuck it out this long. I also read she is moving to NY (just what we need) so Lourdes could be closer to her father--but what about Guy being close to his own child, & a stepdaughter he helped raise for so many years?
    And don't forget David,

  21. Fly, be free! Love that picture. LOL.

  22. i remember reading somewhere (at the time) that he was opposed to david's adoption (who wasn't?) and it was a major sticking point in their "marriage".

since i've always hated her, i didn't give a mouse fart, but does anybody else remember that?

  23. I just found out one of my cousins is following her on her concert tour. What would be Madonna's version of a Deadhead? He was always a fan. When he was 9 he sent her a fan letter and taped two quarters at the bottom of the letter saying, "Go buy yourself something nice." I thought for sure whomever opened that letter would bring it to her attention. He got nuthin'. I hope I get to talk to him when he comes back. I want stories!

  24. Madonna's accent is a result of her wealthy upbringing. When she moved to NYC she tried hard to remove it to appear more street and finally settled on a fake New York accent that vacated when she got the role in Evita, all this before she met Guy. I also have to say there are plenty of pics of Guy looking happier than this with Madonna sans kids the first 3 or 4 years of their marriage.

  25. Wealthy upbringing. Pffft. Madonna was as middle class as they come. She grew up in the far northern suburbs of Detroit -- Auburn Hills, Oakland Township. I'm from Michigan I know these towns. They're not rich or poor, just blandly middle class... car dealerships, subdivisions, shopping malls. I bet she even shopped at Lerner back in the day. I believe she also lived in Bay City for a time, which is straight-up rust belt (and I can totally understand her wanting to strike that from her biography). Her parents may have had some money, but it's not like she grew up in Grosse Pointe or attended Cranbrook. Any accent she was trying to cover up is the bland Upper Midwest one she was born with.

  26. Divorce sucks. Super stressful!

That said, I was never quite feeling these two as a couple. He just seemed too.... blah for her. She seemed too testy for him.

The David Banda adoption creeped me out. They don't look like a fit and I don't mean ethnically. The vibe just doesn't seem right. In those photos of Madonna carrying David, he looks like he's her purse or pet or some other novelty find.

I look at Ange and Maddox and they look like they belong. They fit. I just can't buy into the Madonna and David thing.

  27. Madonna started adopting the fake English accent when she was BFFs with Rupert Everett or whatever his name is. (This was well before Guy.) If you look at interview clips, this is when the English accent started (and when I started to hate her).

She is just icky, a desperate attention whore who has to do something "new" every 5 minutes. Whenever she does something (whether it's sex, yoga, Kabbalah, etc.) it is as though she personally discovered it. God knows what the next phase will be.
