Marilyn Monroe And Leggings?

Lindsay Lohan launches her line of leggings today in New York. The brand 6126 is so called because it is the birth date of Marilyn Monroe. “I named the collection after Marilyn Monroe’s birth
date, because to me she represents timeless, confident glam - and that is
 the voice of this brand.”

Umm, I would agree that Marilyn Monroe was confident in what she wore and definitely a fashion maven. I just don't think she would be wearing what Lindsay Lohan wears and I don't see Marilyn Monroe anywhere in this. i am not the biggest fan of leggings. You would think as a guy, I probably would be, because hey, lets face it, they are always tight, and the way Lindsay wears them you can see just about anything. But to me, that is not glam or classy, just trashy. Marilyn was never about trashy. She was about teasing and being feminine and making you desire her. I don't get that same feeling when I think of Lindsay or her clothes. All I want to do is take a shower.

I also hate how she is exploiting Marilyn Monroe for her own personal benefit. By naming the line 6126 she knows she is going to be asked where it comes from and so then she has this stock answer, and in the very next sentence the reporter will probably mention how Lindsay posed nude just like Marilyn and blah, blah, blah.

Lindsay Lohan is not even close to a Marilyn Monroe, and it is sad that she is trying to use Marilyn for her own personal gain. I wonder if the Estate of Marilyn might like to have a few words with Lindsay.

Oh, I don't know. So she's a Marilyn fangirl, big deal. So have others been before her. Its okay to be a Marilyn fangirl, but trying to emulate her is played out. Having Marilyn's birthdate as the name is NOT going to move any more leggings for her, so just let her enjoy her fantasy, I say.

  2. I don't get what you are talking about Ent.

Marilyn Monroe was a drug addict and she did abuse alcohol...she also has had a very volatile relationship with her mother and has been known to sleep around. In fact, towards the later years of her life...she often showed up to work late if she even bothered to show up at all.

So, how is Lindsay not even close to Marilyn? Please elaborate.

I don't understand why people today are trying to gloss over the flaws of the stars of the past. I just don't get it.

I just hate Marilyn fangirls in Hollywood, always talking about how great she is. Lindsay, Christina Aguilera, Scarlett Johannson etc etc etc. Um, she was a drug, alcohol, and enema addicted skank. "Confident in what she wore"? Probably not. She seemed FULL of insecurities. And I don't see how she was anything special. Just a fucked up beautiful human being that made a lot of mistakes and died early. I wonder how big her fanbase would have been if she'd died at age 80 due to natural causes.

Lindsay just fancies herself the new Marilyn, the delusional self obsessed little twat. Leggings are as nasty and trashy as they come.

  6. I like leggings once in a while. They're great in the winter with a big sweater and a sexy pair of boots.

Marilyn had her faults for sure, but I'm still a big fan.

That being said, I don't think Lohan should have used MM's birthdate as a name for her company. Ent, you're an attorney, draw up the papers for the estate and let's sue her!

  7. Who wants to be the one to point out that Norma Jean Mortensen was born on June 1, 1926. "Marilyn Monroe" wasn't "born" until until Norma Jean was in her 20s (I think...)

    *snort*

  8. I never thought leggings to be timeless, glamourous, and confident.
I wore them when I was pregnant, & that was about it for me.
Somehow I don't think Marilyn would approve of this.

  9. This is off the main point of Lilo's breathtaking! new! fashion line, but re:

"Lindsay Lohan is not even close to a Marilyn Monroe, and it is sad that she is trying to use Marilyn for her own personal gain."

It's not just sad, it's sickening.

If a star(let)'s use of drugs and alcohol is the basis for comparison, that would be a looooong list.

But if you want to talk about "body of work," how about Some Like It Hot? The Misfits? River of No Return? Or my personal favorite MM film, Bus Stop?

MM popped-up in All About Eve in 1950, when she was 24. By 1953, she had done Niagara, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and How to Marry a Millionaire.

Not to bore everyone with her resume, but just to sort of put things in perspective.

  11. I will say that part of the proceeds go to ovarian cancer research, so it's not all about her personal gain.

  12. Awe I think leggings look nice with dresses and longer tops that cover most of your bum. Otherwise, yes they can look trashy.
