Big Mistake By Britney

I don't usually wake up early enough to see all the performers who sing on the early morning talk show programs, but from what I have seen, they often have technical problems, the weather can be very uncooperative and for the most part, unless you are a really good singer, the quality sucks and you don't end up looking that great. Plus, musicians as a rule do not enjoy getting up at 4am to get read for an 8am performance.

So, why on earth would Britney Spears sign up for a December 2 appearance on GMA in Bryant Park? To me that is just setting yourself up for failure. Even if everything went flawless, she is still not going to sound great because of the conditions, and at worse the performance could make the VMA of last year look wonderful. Apparently she was dying to do one of the morning programs and GMA beat everyone out.

What she needs is for Solid Gold to make a comeback so she can do her little dance moves while lip syncing to her songs and have a bunch of retired disco dancers in the background making her look good. Instead what she is going to get is some guy slipping on a patch of ice on the stage while he is reaching for the last donut on the craft service table, pulling out a plug and watching Britney embarrass herself. Live, outdoor television, in winter (almost) in New York in the early morning is just not a recipe for success. A recipe for YouTube success, but not Britney.

  1. sounds like a bigger mistake was letting that traffic thing go to a jury...

  2. Are you kidding? Half of Brit Brit's permanent staff are sound techs specially trained to make sure nothing goes wrong with her audio while she lip syncs. There's no way all the people with $$$ invested in her are going to let the GMA goofs handle any part of this. The money train is back on its tracks, and they aren't going to let anything interfere this time around. :)

  4. Oh my, I used to love watching Solid Gold when I was a kid. Watching this video makes me realize how age inappropriate that may have been. I wonder where they found those dancers. So full of cheese, love it. Thanks for the memories Enty!

  5. Ah, Solid Gold! The Dionne Warwick years, the Marilyn McCoo years, the Andy Gibb years, the Rex Smith years. I was sooooo there.

There's no way anyone will let Brit sing live so of course it will be lip synched.

  8. I heart Solid Gold!

Dionne Warwick's nostrils used to freak me out as a kid.

  9. They all lip synch on GMA. Maybe we can hope for an Ashlee Simpson & someone will put on the wrong track.

  11. Thank you for that trip down memory lane. It made me realize that television was still as hyper-sexualized when I was in elementary school! And I loved Dance Fever too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw- is there anyone out there who actually still thinks Brittney can sing? It's a sideshow act. Always has been.

  12. Oh. My. God.

I have never seen Solid Gold. Or Dance Fever. Or any similar shows. They were forbidden in our house.

And now I know why. Holy carp.

  13. Well, I'm rooting for Britney. I think her public struggle with manic depression was alarming and just really, really fucking weird. I'm glad it seems to be over.

That said, bring it on, because I can't WAIT to see more of this shit:

  14. I was with YOU Cheryl! Having been a dancer, I watched them all. I watched Solid Gold more to critique than to admire. They were not bad dancers, per se, they just had dreadful choreography. All that rolling around on the ground...I had quite a collection of those shiny, high-cut leotards, though. To be 18 again...with an ass that could still WEAR those leotards! You made my day, Enty!

Why doesn't Britney just fade away? Speaking of dancing...I just don't get her spastic arm gyrations. It's obvious that she does her own thing and didn't spend a lot of time studying anything classical or graceful from an educated dancer. I prefer to watch the others in my Zumba class than Brit.

  15. Ernestine, she was photographed crying as she left rehearsals yesterday or the day before. I think it's going to be a constant struggle for her. :(
