  3. what a great actor and philanthropist. he will be missed.

keep buying his products tho, because his daughter is going to carry on the tradition of donating 100% of the profits to charity. so far they've donated more than $250 million.

  5. I never knew much about him past his eyes (!!) and food donations - but reading about his humility and generosity really made me sad the world has lost him.

  7. He was a great actor but even more importantly he was an incredibly kind and humble man who helped so many kids. He's one of the very few people you could honestly look up to and aspire to be like.

He left a mark on the world and the world is better for it.

Talent, a heart, whip-smart mind and more class than half of Hollywood today. "Legend" indeed.

Wow, that picture of him with Elizabeth Taylor reminds me of why she's been called the most beautiful woman to have ever lived.

I have a lot of respect for Paul Newman. Not many charitable endeavors actually give a good percentage of their proceeds to whatever cause they're hawking, but Newman's Own always gave 100% of their profits. Respect. RIP Mr. Newman.

  17. Paul and Joanne were definitely an inspiration. I love this quote from him: "Why go out for hamburger when you have steak at home?"

  19. RIP - you're one of a kind Paul Newman....

A truly talented actor who was married for 50 years to the same woman! On top of that he shared the wealth through his generous humanitarian deeds.

  20. I agree with all of the above.

The man was HOT. He was kind. He was talented. If he wasn't so nice, I'd be jealous of the abundance of wonderful traits he exemplified.

No one finer. The "Newman's Own" was not his only charity - he also had several Hole in the Wall camps for children with terminal injuries, and other charities as well.

I lived in Kansas City at the time that he and Joanne filmed "Mr. and Mrs. Bridge", and they simply moved into a rented home and became a part of the community. You'd run into them all over town, at movie theaters, doctor's offices, strolling along a street. They didn't act like celebrities at all and were very friendly with everyone they met. Good people.

We're going to miss him horribly.

  25. Man oh man...the Butch and Sundance days. Now THAT was hot.

He was such a shining example of a good person--not only for H-wood but for all people.

RIP and condolences to his family.

  26. @selenakyle: Paul Newman had nothing to do with Hollywood; he lived over here in Connecticut for decades, so please don't tar him with that horrid brush.

The world was lucky to have had him. My own family benefitted from him four times via the Hole in the Wall Gang. What a legacy he's left behind! I hope he inspired others to be better people.

  27. That picture of him with Liz taylor...almost too much beauty for one photo!

What a great actor he was...seemed like a good man too.

  31. Beautiful on the inside and on the outside. He brought so much to the world, and made it a better and more entertaining place. I truly believe that he's an example of how to live a life, and enjoy that life. Humble, honest and talented, he was able to turn a tragedy into a legacy. Thank you Paul.

  32. This makes me sad not only for his wife and family and the good company he fostered and cherished, but also because he was SUCH a golden example of old Hollywood.

God. Is he the most beautiful man to ever exist or what? He's freakish! He's CARVED or something.

Think of how gorgeous the movie stars were back then! Ingrid, Elizabeth, Vivian, Ava, Cary, Grace, Gregory, yuuuummmy.

Anyway, he had such a noble life. Good for him.

I can't imagine being Joanne right now! To lose your husband of so many years! But she gets to say that she had one for so many years, too. Aw.

  33. All I can say is WOW what a man.

  34. You are surely in heaven, Mr. Newman. RIP. My thoughts and prayers go out to your wonderful family.

  35. *sigh* They don't make men, much less actors, like that any more.

    R.I.P Paul - you'll be missed.
