I Don't Understand

Since I know all of you are big readers, you no doubt have seen what happened in Houston Texas yesterday when Hilary Duff's mother and father were in court yesterday. In case you didn't hear what happened, here is a rundown. Hilary's mom wanted $25,000 from dad to spend on Hilary's 21st birthday. She was also there to complain that the $10,000 a month she gets from Hilary's dad isn't even enough to cover her basic bills and so Hilary has to give her money each month. She also thinks Bob is hiding money.

Hey, I think Bob is hiding money, and the court even sent him to jail for ten days because he was selling things without asking permission of the court first. My guess is that he is running out of money and wants to keep as much as he can for himself and his girlfriend, and away from his ex-wife.

Apparently the judge thought $25,000 for a party to be spent on a daughter who is a multi-millionaire was a bit much and so just ordered the dad to pay half. So now, Hilary's mom said she won't be able to use the 24k gold napkins and will instead have to use Bounty paper towels and get an ice cream cake from Carvel. Yeah, because $12,500 just isn't enough for a birthday party. $25,000 is what the family spent on Haylie's birthday party, and so the mom wanted to be able to spend the same amount on Hilary's party. I see her reasoning, and appreciate her wanting to treat them equally, but that isn't what is going to happen. You think mom is really going to spend that much on Hilary? Hell no. Mom is going to go buy a card, and keep the rest. This is a mom who borrows money from her daughter every month so she can live like a millionaire. I guarantee you that when she gets cash in her pocket, it stays in her pocket. This is a woman who invested everything she had into a Hilary Duff film and was surprised when it tanked. Oh, what film you ask? Material Girls. Yeah, that's what I thought.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for either side in this case. Mom sounds like a money grubbing leech and dad sounds like a jerk. From a question that was asked in court and then withdrawn, it also appears Hilary and her dad do not like each other. In fact, they may hate each other. Haylie on the other hand, appears to be the apple of Daddy's eye. Interesting. Interesting.

I really want this whole thing to be over because Hilary's dad has promised that he has lots and lots to share, but the judge has ordered him not to speak to the press.

  1. Aren't these girls emancipated by now? Why does Dad have any obligation to contribute to the birthday party, period?

And I agree -- not a lot of sympathy for either side here. Just for the kids caught in the middle.

  2. I was just thinking the same thing. Why should he have to pay any form of child support if she is an adult (a filthy rich one at that).

  3. I agree with a pimp named daver

WTF??? Hilary and Haylie are adults that have their own income. It isn't necessary for mom and dad to pay for a birthday party.

What a waste of time to have this dragged into court!

  4. By the way, I love the Bounty paper towels/Carvel cake comment. I think Enty must have been at some of my birthday parties!

  5. I feel sorry for Hilary who has children as parents...

And, I'd take a Carvel cake any day for my b-day. Yummy!

  6. It's amazing what people will fight about during a divorce. It probably will cost $25000. in court and attorney fees between the two.

  7. I had no clue that you could enforce birthday party payments. Wow! I'll have to get right on that.

If he pays child support/health insurance to her then that's all he should be REQUIRED to pay. All else is voluntary. How can birthday parties be required???

  8. I think the only reason that he is providing money to her for the birthday party is it must have been in the divorce settlement or agreed to by the attorneys. I used to work as an assistant for a lawyer and this is common if one person earned more money or forced the other to stay home to take care of the children and put their careers on the backburner. I have to agree it is sad that they are fighting over this, and even more wrong that it is all over the internet and tabloids. They need to let this family handle their personal matters personally.

  10. I guess I am having a hard time believing any judge would take this seriously and not just throw this lame ass case as far out the door as possible. Excuse me, 24 carat gold napkins for a 21st birthday party. So exactly what do you do with those napkins after the party? Can you dry clean 24 carat gold?

  11. amster, i think the 24 carat gold nakins were an exaggeration on enty's part. im sure the party will be overly extravagent tho.

Wow, I don't think I even saw my parents on my 21st birthday, much less had a party given to me by them...much less a $25,000 at that. I doubt my parents spent that much on gifts for me my entire life...

  13. In fairness to Hilary's mom, the divorce hasn't been finalized yet so she's living on the $10,000 per month temporarily. Once the assets are distributed, she'll have a chunk of money she can spend any way she wants. How long has this been dragging on? 2+ years?

Knowing all the trouble this has caused, I'll bet Hilary doesn't even want this party anymore.

  14. The mother is living on $10K/month which is $120,000/year. She was married to a partner in a chain of convenience stores and so this 10K/month is probably appropriate to HIS income.

The kids are over 18 and earning their own income. If mom wants to live like a millionaire then she needs to get $$ from her KIDS. Why is dad even still paying her since the kids are grown? Texas doesn't have alimony. As soon as my kids hit 18 I'll never see another cent of support...Wait, I don't see any now....

  16. I work in the Harris County Criminal Courthouse (in downtown Houston), but with some of the cases lately, seems the Civil courthouse would be more entertaining if you could sneak into some of those courtrooms.

  17. $10,000 a month?! Add 3 months together and that's what I'm working for now A YEAR. So Hil's mom can fold all the rest of that $90,000 in $1 bills and shove them right up her hoo-ha!

For my 21st birthday I got $5 bucks to go to Dairy Mart and buy myself a Coke and a fruit pie 'cause that's all that could be afforded. My mom was too busy with her boyfriend to be bothered to remember it was my 21st. So these money-grubbing, out-of-touch with real-world living fame hos can just suck it! I don't feel sorry for them and thier 'troubles' at all. (*rant over*)

I do feel bad for those girls, though.

  19. WTF is WRONG with people today??
I second Lisa's feelings here, and I have to wonder if this crackhead judge is not lobbying for an appointment to the L.A. County bench?? In the fairytale world where only celeb justice rules?

Where if you are a marginal celebutard F-list-er, and you drive a knife into a kid's skull as you carry an AK-47, nude, in the middle of traffic, while smoking crack out of a bong made from Chuck Barris' skull...then they STILL let you walk if you agree to do a PSA.

Does this judge - and others who see any validity in this bullshit - watch too much E! TV and spoiled-rich twat heiress shows??

    VOM-IT!! $10k a month in support? That's equal to $120k annually.
This is about $80k more than the annual salary of ANYBODY in the town where I was born!

That's not counting money from your kids who buy you anything you ask. It doesn't include current assets. Unless you're a sheik, or a totally spoiled twat, explain what bills you have to pay to NOT live off that?? Are you blowing rails - a grinder full of 100% pure - every 3 hours off a stripper's waxed lips at Pure Patinum? Renting Denise Richards by the hour? Paying for Evil Longwhoria's plastic surgery?

This is the REAL TWO AMERICAS folks. The one where delusional celebu-fried douchemonkeys who think all the world is about bling-bling and living large...and the rest of the world working for a living (or running their small business) just trying to not go bankrupt or be foreclosed.

It's ntohing to do with politics. Demotards want to spend every dollar in the treasury (paid for by taxes) to support the poorest and neediest while taxing a man or woman who owns a small biz with 6 or 10 employees.

Republitards want to ignore the neediest - like a single mom working min. wage with 3 kids and going to school at night, while giving tax breaks to Fortune 500 zillionaires!

They ALL suck! NONE of them are any better. It's just that the masses are forced to choose the lesser of two weevils. Sure, I admit - I don't starve and could afford to spoil my own kids with $25k parties.

But I'd rather give that money to charity, or church food banks, or at least put it in a trust for my kids' college or future (or buy Microsoft stock for them or some shit). I wasn't born rich - and I lose sleep every night just worrying about being able to live a decent middle-income life when I am 65.

But pissing it away on a party?
And this judge agrees as if it's normal? All of them are at fault here, but ESPECIALLY that dildo of a judge! Those Duff girls are WAYYY past 18. They earn millions.
Mayeb not from that thing they called "singing" (lol) but from everything else. Why is this Dad even obligated for support again?

Why is the mother allowed to drag this into court? Doesn't this judge, and these other delusional idiots, realize that all over America today people are forced to choose between eating or driving. Gas is so high that people quit smoking because Camel Lights are as much as a gallon of gas!

Know anybody today trying to get on disability WITH a legit problem? Know anybody trying to start their own real business? Any idea how IMPOSSIBLE it is? Know any returning vets from the war coming back to an empty house and stack of bills? Know anyone owning a biz, with a payroll of 70, watching as they cannot afford to pay benefits anymore because of higher expenses fo operating due to the ridiculous rare species which happens to have built a nest on their property?(thanks Congress and the EPA).

I know them all. Shit's tough. Obviously this judge doesn't know them. Nor does he live in the REAL WORLD (not the one on TV either).

People WITH college degrees are struggling, meanwhile our kids are all wrapped up in wanting to be a quick-rich Idol; another Paris or Kardashian; or busy getting naked for their teenpals on the net.

I'm in my 30s, and glad I grew up when I did. To know what hard work is. I worked in a sawmill my teen years, and work doesn't get any harder for crappy pay. My first car was a Chevy Cavalier (an old one!). I STILL own it - because if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

This just burns me up. Sorry for the soapbox, but DAYUM!! It gives me a warm feeling to come here and read that there are still SANE people left in this world. But I guess if we were really sane we wouldn't be ranting on an internet gossip blog comment section now would we?? lol.

I digress. Keep rockin' Enty. You're a good egg (crappy Barrister, but good egg!lol j/k).

Indeed folks...mankind has lost it's mind.

    BadBrad

  20. I'm trying hard to remember if I even got a card from my parents when I turned 21.

  21. I think everyone is missing the point. Hilary's parents are millionaires in their own right. They are going through a divorce after 20+ years of marriage. The assets (which he's trying to sell off) have not been distributed yet. The mom is getting a monthly check until the divorce is finalized.

Yes, it's more money than most of us see in a year. But she is entitled to marital assets. And if a judge locks up dad for 10 days, dad knowingly did something very wrong.

  22. it's hard to live on 120K in southern california if you have a house and kids.
but i don't understand about the birthday party.
both kids are over 21. if they are not in school, he owes no child support.
SPOUSAL support is something worked out in court, and if his assests are in the millions, then she deserves more. at least legally.
sad to say, but that $120K is barely middle class here.

  23. Neither of my parents were speaking to me on my 21st birthday. I had a baby and wasn't married and refused to obey their orders to giver her up. I think I was busy doing laundry or housework or something like that and didn't really care that it was my birthday.

  24. $24k a year. entire families live on that (or much less) per year.
