When I was culling (fancy word for copy and paste) the Mirror today for their blind item I noticed they had a followup article on the girl in Brazil who was chopped up by her boyfriend in Brazil and put in a suitcase. Apparently the cost to bring the body back to the UK is about $13,000 and neither the governments of Brazil or the UK will foot the bill. The mother of Cara Burke who was the girl killed, only gets about $150 a week from the UK government. Apparently she lives on welfare and so obviously cannot foot the bill to have her daughter brought home.
So, I thought I would turn to all my intrepid readers and find out if they know if a fund has been established somewhere to help bring the poor girl home. I just know that even if I were not close to my child, I also know I wouldn't want her to be interred in some unmarked grave in Brazil that I would never get a chance to visit. It seems to me the most likely solution would be to have the remains cremated and then shipped back to the UK, but that is also probably more than the woman can afford. So, if someone sees any information about a fund that doesn't come from some guy in Nigeria, please let me know.
Damn, you would think since the psychopath was Brasilian and it occured on their soil, the least the government could do is pay to ship the body.
ReplyDeleteOh, man. Both those countries suck SO hard. You know they each spend at LEAST 11K on shiny football ensembles for their stupid players, and they can't even fly a disembowled girl's remains back to her mother for a proper burial for the same amount?
ReplyDeleteFor fuck's sake.
THIS is EXACTLY why I like animals more than I like people.
Couldn't an airline step up to the plate and donate their services?
ReplyDeleteYeah, airlines aren't hurting for money!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhere are these preachy celebs with their private jets when the little guy needs them?
ReplyDeleteEnt, your sentiment is to be applauded but trust me on this, the mother will just blow your money on cigs.
ReplyDeleteDon't bother. The girl is gone. Our business is celebrity, not saving the world from itself and it's psychopaths.
And yes she did look a sweet girl. And I do feel sorry for her.
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling there was no money to go down & get her. That is horrible. Her hometown or school should set up something. Maybe get students around her age to see the consequences of taking off--it may be a painful but needed lesson.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Heather Mills will step in--she likes to do charity work. *snark*
i think it's up to us whether we 'bother' or not thankyouverfuckingmuch.
ReplyDeleteif you choose to be cynical enough to think her mother would spent all that dough on booze and cigaretts than bring her dead girls body back, fine but dont spew that bullshit on a post looking to help the family. get some damn manners.
aw enty you do have a heart. i just saw the guy on the news hes creppier than i expected.
ReplyDeleteEnty--
ReplyDeleteFound this organization in a quick google search. Have no idea how much money or clout they have, but this seems like an issue they might take up:
http://www.soroptimist-csw-london.org.uk/
And another one:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.samm.org.uk/
Might at least be a place to start. I'll post again if I dig up something more specific/definite.
Astralfacade, you're the bomb! Wow.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll sort of second Jax's sentiments. If you don't like posts that AREN'T concerned with sexually transmitted diseases passed from one person to another, homewreckers, creepy stage dads, blind items, or other licentious things having to do with celebrities with way too much money and time on their hands, then simply gloss over them and let the rest of us rant or rave about things that don't necessarily have to do with famous people. Those whiny "but this is a GOSSIP BLLLLOOOOOG" comments annoy the shit out of me, too.
Altruism and activism rock. I'm glad it has a place and a forum on this website, and plenty of other people are, too.
Ernestine, the UK as a country doesn't 'suck' but some department in the government does for not paying for the return of the girl's body.
ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd say as a Brit. I found your comment insulting. No country is perfect, I'll say no more.
Good grief, Mel. Alrighty, then. I personally find the UK, Canada, AND Australia far superior to America in nearly every single aspect, but if you'd like to get huffy, feel free. I won't spend any time defending my own country and its messed-up government, but I'm sure as hell not going to so hypersensitive that I'm afraid of offending someone from a different part of the globe. Unless I call you a slur, please chill out.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but I feel far worse for Cara Burke than I do for you.
The UK should pay to transport her body back so she can get a burial in her home land, when her mom isn't in a position to do so. How is it wrong to say that? If it were a girl from the US, I'd expect them to help out. They probably would if there were a big enough media stink about it.
ReplyDeleteCan't speak for you ernestine but essentially I like animals more than people because animals don't point out our fuck ups. The tamed ones we have in our lives are normally happy to see us and don't care if we screwed up during the day.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I treasure my friends. the human ones. To lump all people into a spot does no good for you or the rest of society. Case in point, Ent doesn't even know this girl or her mom but he's trying to do the....humane thing.
I'll keep an eye out for ya Enty. If I see something I'll shoot you an email.
You're right, this girl's memory is worth having her buried somewhere other than a potter's field.
It's a very kind thought, this post.
Jax - No one named you moderator or voice of the CDAN commenters. Sometimes you could keep your opinion to yourself, especially when you overdo it with the swearing-every-other-word routine which you apparently think makes you look flip/funny, tough and full of personality. Sometimes it's really just immature and annoying, and as a frequent reader/infrequent commenter, I have thought this often before commenting on it now.
ReplyDeleteIf you choose to respond with the typical, hey, you picked on me so now I'll tell you off, just reread your incredibly rude comment above in response to uber*nought's opinion. And shut up, for once.
(BTW, I have seen the "get a life, it's just a gossip site" remark so many times when someone defends a celebrity or takes offense at a particularly catty or cold post or comment, so it's interesting to see how now it's hypocritically being used the other way around!).
Ent, I agree that this was a very kind post and sentiment. Hopefully the publicity will work in some way to get the girl back home to her family where she belongs.
I don't care who or what government does it. I'd want someone to help bring my daughter home to bury her.
ReplyDeleteWhat has happen to you guys? We are talking about someones child. This girl was murdered her mother has to being going thru HELL.
... WHAT "happened" IS THAT PEOPLE ARE FED UP WITH HAVING TO BAIL OUT 'OTHER' PEOPLE'S *mistakes*.
ReplyDelete... 'The DEAD Girl''s MOTHER SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT *the chance* SOMETHING BAD WOULD HAPPEN TO HER ANYWAY. WHAT IF her daughter WAS STILL ALIVE and NEEDED TO GET BACK HOME... THERE WOULD STILL NO MONEY TO DO SO. So WOULD HER MOTHER HAVE ASKED THE WORLD TO HELP HER THEN?
GET OVER IT. STOP BAILING OUT 'OTHER' PEOPLE'S *MISTAKES*. LEARN THE "concept" of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY...
Right at this moment... there are CHILDREN LIVING WORLDWIDE... WAITING FOR MEDICAL HELP in some "capacity" YET CAN'T GET IT or AFFORD IT. Yet I don't HEAR *you F*CKING LIBERALS* CRYING ABOUT THEM or offering THEM financial "help"... I only hear UTTER BULLSH!T ABOUT SENDING MONEY FOR A DEC"Em"MATED CORPSE that's ALREADY 'DEAD'. Typical IDIOTIC LIBERAL HYPOCRISY and ABJECT STUPIDITY.
... 'nuff said from me in *this 'GROOM'some 'DEAD Girl' thread*.
AstralFacade, thank for the information.
ReplyDeleteI've emailed SAMM, and asked what action could be taken, I think they have more international experience.
I'll keep you guys posted.
Ernestine, I'm not asking you to feel anything for me. I just didn't understand your sweeping statement saying the UK and Brazil 'such so hard'. This is an open forum, free speech and all. I think I can say if I found your comment offensive.
ReplyDeleteCarla's coming home now, thanks to an OAP. What p***ses me off is the Mirror (crapola rag) could have easily footed the bill. Tabloids daily make money out of other people's misery, putted some back would have been the right thing to do but then they would have had their story.
I am happy to hear someone sponsored this porr girl's return. Hopefully her soul can rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteMel, again, I refuse to apologize for your hypersensitivity. America gets dissed time and time again in every international media outlet -- often, for very good reasons -- but I don't think that any of us really take offense to it very often. At least, I don't.
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm not saying that I'M some hard-hitting journalist reporting for a venerable newspaper or whatever. I'm saying that IN THIS INSTANCE, it would have been nice for the UK or Brazil to toss out the money required to send this girl home, seeing as how -- like AMERICA -- both countries spend tons of cash on things that are incredibly frivolous and not that consequential. Like uniforms for athletes. Or athletes' salaries. I know that Brazil and Britain are both very similar in that there's a lot of collective worship for football players; that's the first image that popped in my mind. But America is just as bad, if not worse. Professional athletes get away with everything in this culture -- up to and including murder.
I'm just happy that this girl is going home. Perhaps her mother can find some closure, but I highly doubt it. It's just a far more respectful way to end things than just leaving her disembodied carcass in the country where she was brutally killed.
Not famous Adrian, where did you read that?
ReplyDeleteif i could contribute, i would. too bad we can't even afford this months mortgage :(
ReplyDeletei don't care IF the mother is on welfare (fuck, we're on medicaid right now. My husband lost his job 3 weeks before my not even 2 year old daughter had a stroke.), the girl deserves proper umm handling. and i hate using that word, but its in context!
Oh, and we're still stuck in delaware at duPont. a month now. i only really get CDAN on my blackberry lol the rest of the computers block it :(
I miss all you guys!!!
Podbaydoor--that is how I interpreted the post above me-- I thought that is what it meant, but then again, it was 6:30 AM.
ReplyDeleteJulie, oh my God!! I hope your little girl is okay! That's just AWFUL. :-( I'm glad she's getting help.
ReplyDeleteJulie-- I just saw your post-- i hope things are better now for your family.
ReplyDeleteas a country, america wouldn't pay to ship her body home either. some charity or other probably would, but not the government.
ReplyDeleteas a matter of fact, if you have arrangements made through the neptune society and you die out of your area, it will cost extra to have you shipped home. i dunno what happens if there's nobody left to pay to have you shipped home (say you die out of state or out of the country).
perhaps the family's church or brazilian local church will help?
Ernestine, I didn't request an apology. I just hope in future you word your posts more carefully. Rather than insult a whole country with your sweeping statements, you could easily have inserted the word 'government'.
ReplyDeleteI'm not being hypersensitive but if you chose to believe that and miss the point then so be it.
Carla's body is being shipped home as it should and was always going to be. There's no way she would have been left in Brazil. If the government didn't take action other people in the UK would have, as they have done.
Thank you, I have a blog, but I haven't gotten to the net to really update it lately.
ReplyDeletewww.meghansmommy.blogspot.com
I'm going to try to update tomorrow. We ended up having a good day today.
She doesn't need the gastrosurgery ee thought :)
