What If It Weren't Tom Cruise?

So immediately after Nicole Kidman's baby news became public, apparently Tom Cruise called her and sent her enough flowers to fill her entire hospital room. To me that seems kind of nice except if you decide to be cynical and critical about the whole thing which is basically what I do, so lets get started.

Now, I admit that I know next to nothing about Scientology and their practices, but from what I have read, isn't Nicole Kidman considered to be an SP? In other words, isn't she a person who Tom is supposed to never talk to again, or until at least Xenu comes back and gives him a bj? I mean there must be some cutoff right?

Anyway, so Tom violated whatever rules Scientology has about that thing. I was under the impression that is the reason that her kids never get to see her either. Since they are Scientology and she left Scientology without doing what it is you are supposed to do to leave, they can't have anything to do with her.

From what I've heard and read, if someone else in the "Church" did this they would be in huge trouble and hooked up to the e-meter or be forced to watch Battlefield Earth and Far And Away on a continuous loop until they begged for someone to kill them. So, how come Tom Cruise just gets to ignore the rules? It doesn't seem right to know that people have been punished and separated from their families because they are SP, but Tom can call her, send her flowers and do so with impunity.

So, while I appreciate the gesture of sending flowers because it was not done with publicity in mind, it is offset by the fact that he did something that every other person in Scientology would be punished for and he isn't.

  1. You are right in that Nicole has been labeled SP since she left the cult and Tom could be sent to the work camp for it but he is Tom Cruise and the Scifags are known for rolling out the star treatment for celebs and not showing them the evils of their cult

  4. @brendalove - your avatar kills me! I love that episode - with the hair up in a pony on the top of the head, I laugh like a "looney" everytime.

  5. It sounds more like a calculated PR move to me. Makes him look like a nice guy. isn't everything he does a big stunt? Also, I assumed their marriage ended because a supposed contract was up.

  6. farleece... I think we all think that...either that or she screwed up just before the contract was up.

If he's sending her flowers, maybe he's hoping she'll be kind enough to keep her mouth shut as to why the two of them really didn't have kids, since it's obvious that she's able...

Of couse... I still buy into the theory that Suri's father is Chris.

  7. Yep, big ass PR move. You think that Nicole called the press to tell them about her room full of flowers? First call the florists, then call the papers.

Nicole should throw them all in the dumpster and then call Tom and ask when she's going to be allowed to see her other kids again.

  8. Nicole is a double-whammy SP since both of her parents are {gasp!} psychologists!

  9. oh,it was done with publicity in mind.(and also to remind her that he still has some control over her)

    isn't tom a nice guy?

It's really not the thing to do, in my mind. Imagine you have a new wife and you have a new baby together, and her ex-husband who is way richer than you showers her with flowers when she gives birth to your child. A little uncomfortable for Keith?

Having a baby is between the parents of the baby. Ex-husbands need not get involved. A gift or a card or a phone call would be enough. Leave room for Keith's daisies that he stole from the city park.

Ok guys...I have to interject for the sake of fairness. Scientology doesn't encourage you to cut off the SP's in your life..in fact, you're supposed to do everything in your power NOT to do that. The reasoning is if you cut them off, there's no hope of them coming into the fold when they see how well you're managing your life, etc. How do I know? I know a great deal about many religions and spent lots of time involved with each. Scientology isn't as bad as its reputation but they don't help the situation by being so secretive and litigious either. Actually, Scientology made a lot of sense up until the 'clear' level. Past that, I really couldn't get into the whole OT levels with Zenu and being 'light enough to handle it' etc. It's really quite interesting and worth a read. I promise you won't get brainwashed...I didn't :) I've been and remain a happy Athiest who believes in being good and kind while doing my best to preserve our environment. Cheers!

  13. that is rather assholiness to hijack the couples event & turn the room into a "remember great me"
    type of thing.

  14. hmm let's see there is a lot of people out there missing family memebers who are in COS who might disagree Carmen. an SP is a suppressivre person and everything i read or saw pretty much states you're in or out with COS.

KatE did it in hopes of being sent away.

  15. What do you bet Nic was the one who called the paps with her flower power love story?

TC is her one, true and forever love.

    Keith who?

Read most of the stories and the quotes from Nic's parents; Sunday is Nicole's baby.

    Keith who?

WAS there a hospital room to send the flowers to?

No pix's of Nic cradling her swaddled, triumphant accomplishment on the hospital steps before being whisked away to learn her lines for one of the multiple movies she's signed up for in the past 8 months.

The mistress of media manipulation missed her prime photo op?

She didn't take a curtain call after each stage of the pillow pregnancy was documented in every time zone from yoga to Starbucks?

    Why?

  16. I thought Nicole never joined Scientology. I also think it strange to send her flowers. Maybe he did it for the kids's sake -- although wouldn't the flowers then be in their name?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Carmen - I suggest you do some more of that religion research of yours to find out that Scientology is a freaking horrific nightmare cult that has destroyed lives. Yes, you do have to get rid of anyone, friends or family, who don't believe in the bullshit that drug addict R. Hubbard came up with.
Don't believe me? Then read what the cult's leaders' niece had to say. Her name is Jenna Miscavige Hill.

  21. This is just like all the Middle Eastern psycho leaders. When you raid their compounds, you find nothing but Western Liquor, Western Porn, Western Movies, and Modern Western Conveniences such as toilets, bathtubs and bidets. They don't get excommunicated from Islam by Mohammed.

  22. It's a shill organization, cult. Tom is one of the biggest financial contributors, and the face of the church. He is Scientology to the world. He is also best 'friends' with the head of the Church. He's free to do what he wants. If he didn't send something it would have been bigger news - he had no choice really.

I bet those flowers never saw her room and they ended up all over the hospital with other patients. She wouldn't even look at them.

    ReplyDelete
  23. sending a bucketoflowers would have satisfied the obligation.
Filling the room, speaks of some weird, immature, self-centered, passive agressive jackassedness.
I'm sure the dad was thrilled, mission accomplished, no pun intended.

  24. Tom is a self-absorbed asshole.

    End of story.

  25. Carmen, in theory, yes, $cientology is supposed to help people deal with their troubling situations. But the reality is, $ci doesn't solve a damn thing unless it can isolate ppl from their friends and relatives who are not $ci, and convince them that $ci only works if one is surrounded by other $ci's.

Tommie's mother had to leave her husband of 20 years because her $ci kids threatened her with disconnection if she didn't take up $ci and dump her critical husband. KatE dumped all her old friends, and has limited contact with her family. Issac Hayes was forced to quit SouthPark (the only job he's had in decades.) Will and Jada's life is becoming just as sequestered and creepy with their $ci school and their dwindling social life.

It's a cult, which gains adherents through a few common exercises, stolen from other sources, that they claim proves that there are thetans and engrams and a reactive mind. No one, in the age of the Internet needs to be falling for this crap.

  26. Total PR move, and because his name/career is still in the toilet, he may have gotten permission. Since he's Nic's ex, it's VERY inappropriate, VERY bad form. In her place I'd have done what you wrote, sexecution, and given them all away to other patients.

  27. You know, I have never understood all the Nicole hate. You can't read Lainey without a daily post on "Granny Freeze" etc, etc. She doesn't really interest me much, but she's done some amazing acting in the past. And I don't really see her manipulating the media/paps any more than any other A-lister promoting something.

  28. i don't believe tom cruise makes a move without talking to his publicist first. in his narcissism, he thinks the flowers---enough to fill her room---make him look like a great guy. actually, it makes him look like the huge prick he is.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Noone seems to have considered the fact that this story may be bullshit anyway. Maybe he didnt send enough flowers to fill a room. Maybe he sent nothing at all?

All I can say is that it wasn't my experience. I never felt pressured to leave anyone, no one ever said I should and when I quit attending, no one ever pressured me to return. The only money I was asked for was when I was encouraged to purchase 'courses' or do the purification. That was pretty much it. That being said, if we're going to sling mud at religion, then let's be fair and mention the assholes who let their children die by witholding meds in the 'name of God', or the crazies that live by Jihad and think that killing innocent women and children in the name of their God is acceptable. Scientologists may believe in an alien named Zenu which makes about as much sense to me as believing in some guy that walks on water, brings the dead back to life and rises from the dead. As far as I'm concerned, every damn one of the aforementioned religions is a cult that depends on brainwashing. My original intent with my post was to point out that it's really not fair to bash other people for their beliefs just because you have a negative perception of them. Scientology has a lot of rich and powerful people who belong; many more than the detractors so, like every other religion who likes wealthy and generous patrons, can you blame them for using celebrities to promote their tenets? (Mel Gibson, anyone?)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have read that the rules for celebrity members of Scientology are far more lax that those for non-celebs. They depend on the celebs to get them publicity (and of course money), and supposedly keep them in the dark about what non-celeb members have to do. Gotta love double standards!

  32. Carmen,

Yes I can hold $cientology responsible when Tom Cruise spouts off his "facts" about medication without a degree (from high school even.) When he claims that the Purif is the ONLY way to rid the bodies of cops and fire fighters of 9/11 related illness - he then becomes a messenger for a wholly dishonest religion and corrupt knowledge.

When Jenna Elfman tells kids with AIDS that she won't help them because AIDS is all in the mind - as per $cientology "research" - then I will blame the religion for using it's celebrities to create greater ignorance in society, ergo more idiots who will sign up for $cientology.

Is it different from other religions? Why is that important? If one set of idiots is no different than another set, except for competing totalitarian dogmas of prejudice and voodoo, that doesn't make $camology better, only just as bad.

And we are discussing $cientology at the moment, though it's a typical habit of the clams to try and divert scrutiny by pointing and screiching at other religions.

    Plot-

I have no intention of 'diverting' attention from Scientology...I just think we could be a little bit better as people by being a little more tolerant and respectful. Personally, I think all religion is damaging...Every. Last. One. Of. Them. What Jenna Elfman supposedly said was terrible (I say supposedly because I've never heard that before) but it's no worse than telling gays and lesbians they're going to Hell or that they have no hope of being 'saved' unless they're willing to change. That's just as cruel as anything you say Scientology has done. Denying people their basic rights is despicable yet every single religion seeks to do just that. Hate Scientology all you want but understand that when you step back and take a long look at what you've written that you, my friend, is the one who is using diversionary tactics. I would be happy if Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Scientology and the rest could be done away with. I think people would be a hell of a lot happier and content. But that's just my opinion. Hey-feel how you want. That's your option. Me? All I wanted to accomplish was to remind people that we have enough hatred, intolerance, bigotry and ignorance in the world. We, ourselves, should try not to contribute to that. But hey...whatever makes you tick! Sorry I offended you.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Carmen,

You will find no love for religion here, of any stripe. the comparison of relative religious atrocities which I usually have to dispel is the constant refrain that Xtianity is the religion of love, Islam of hate. yeah right.

So we are on the same page here.

    ReplyDelete
  35. there are some major problems with the above arguments.
some are established "religions" (yes, i belong to one of them, but i now consider myself agnostic), the others are cults.
krisha, scientology, the recent type of "kabbalah" the weirdo multi-wife folks that are an OFFSHOOT of the LDS... these are the cults. any group that does not allow questions or open expression is a CULT.

and TCLTC. sorry, have to throw that in.

    ReplyDelete
  36. so much stupid ignorance here...but your blog is so full of it, no wonder your readers are as well. no, kidman would not be labeled "SP" or anything else just because she does not continue doing scientology. don't read this:

    http://www.scientologymyths.info/disconnection/

    ReplyDelete
  37. Lu, your "unbiased" website and blog has come under heavy criticism from your betters - Operation Snow White never happened and was never connected to $cientology? oh pul-lease! Make up your mind.

It's pretty obvious what you are doing, though you will froth and spit at the very suggestion. SPs exist and they are legion in the $cientology community, consisting mainly of family members who leave the cult.

Unbiased sources don't do massive web searches to advertise their dubious theories on a debunked website.

    ReplyDelete
  38. plot, I don't have an "un-biased website". Obviously you are already beyond the capability to accept that there are other viewpoints that yours.

But you don't have to find a balance, if you don't want to. Just don't claim to be "objective", that would be truly ridiculous.
