What Is She Mixing With The Coke?

I read yesterday that with the low ratings American Idol is receiving this year that Ryan Seacrest's job might be on the line. I think Fox has got the wrong person. Look, I don't know if Paula Abdul is drinking, taking medication, disinterested, or just the dumbest person on the planet, but there is something wrong. I want you to know that I didn't sin. I didn't watch American Idol last night, but know the background and have seen the clip below.

If you don't know the latest in the Paula Abdul is probably drunk episode, it went something like this. Five finalists had each sung one Neil Diamond song. That should bring in the teen crowd. One song. No one had sung two. Everyone of the five had sung one. Everyone in the audience knew it, everyone at home knew it. The only person who didn't know it was Paula.

At the halfway point, the five were brought out so the judges could provide general comments. When it came to Paul analyzing Jason Castro, this is what Paula had to say. "Oh gosh—we've never had to write these things down, uh, fast enough. Jason, the first song, I loved hearing your lower register, which we never really hear. Um, the second song, I felt like your usual charm, it was missing for me. It kind of left me a little empty. The two songs made me feel like you're not fighting hard enough to get into the top four."

You know what this shows? That Paula has no idea what anyone does and just makes up the first thing that pops into her head. Tell me again how she got this job. How about hiring someone who actually is more interested in the singers than in cashing a paycheck or the next commercial so they can chug down their "Coke."

Oh, and I wouldn't even bother feeling sorry for Paula. Even though the entire audience was laughing at her, and the producers probably yelled at her, she probably woke up this morning in her usual foggy haze and has no idea it even happened.

I still say its muscle relaxers. Given her medical history, self deluded justifications and half truths, I'd say thats most likely.

  2. doesn't really matter what it is,she can't do her job effectivly. if it were prescribed meds i'd think Fox would reveal it at this point otherwise they look like they are enabling an addict in front of millions of kids.

get rid of her and let Ryan judge and get Dunkleman back to replace Seacrest. everyone wins.

  3. Seacrest is hardly the problem. It would be idiotic if Fox made him the scapegoat.

Start by dumping Paula and Randy. "Yo dawg, you're in the zone" is neither constructive nor entertaining. Ditto, "you look adorable tonight, and I love you."

Can't wait to see what The Soup (and everyone else) does with Paula's gaffe.

  4. I agree with trix. After watching Hey Paula, I'm pretty convinced she's still a major pill popper. I hope people stop enabling her soon, because she needs help.

  5. I'm told it's morphine patches. For her injury. However she wears three or four of them at a time. Boosts herself back up at show time with a little sniff or two.

I believe they all signed on for a couple more years recently at quite a hefty paycheck. Doubt anyone will be going away soon.

  6. I can't even bring myself to watch this.,I'm not a huge Paula fan, I just hate to see people screw up, especially on national tv. She obviously has something going on. Maybe the talent is so medicore that it seemed like the same dullard twice? I haven't watched A.I. in forever so I am clueless on that. As I live in a glass house I will not throw stones...

  7. She's on something, that's for sure. I can't even bear to watch 'Hey Paula' because I get embarrassed on her behalf. Especially the episode where she cried and yelled at all her staff over the old incident where she was on TV an obviously intoxicated but blamed it on being tired...she just acts strange and erratic, and meybe she's not on drugs...but if that's the case, she SHOULD be.

Too many incidents going on with Paula. They should have gotten rid of her when she made her 2 mistake. Whatever she is taking seems like she will not stop taking.

  9. Haha

Funny story, I was supposed to go over to my friend's house last night to watch this. Fell asleep on my couch so when I called with the "I'm sorry's" he said "Your loss, Paula Abdul is officially crazy and I got to see it happen".

  10. You know, I just can't help but feel bad for people like this, especially when these incidents occur publicly. And OMG! Televised as well!?!

Addiction is a sad situation, regardless of the person's status/job. To me, her behavior looks like that of someone who is chemically imbalanced artificially as opposed to, well, naturally.

Look at the intent in her eyes when she's trying to concentrate on Randy's question of which one she likes best. She looks utterly confused and lost.
I know it's self-inflicted, but I still feel pity for addicts. I always wonder what leads them to their addictions...

  11. She most likely took those notes during the rehearsal, as there are notes in front of her. She obviously wasn't paying attention like the rest of us were! I also think that this was unscripted and because of that, Paula was caught off guard.

I hate to say it, but watching train wreck Paula is part of the entertainment of watching AI.

I see ya'll refuse to accept the possibility that she might just be stupid.

  13. My guess is that Paula has an assistant who sits in on the dress rehearsal earlier in the day. That person takes notes on what Paula might want to say during the real show, in case Paula can't think of anything to say on her own. (I doubt Paula takes the time to watch the rehearsal herself, but maybe she does.)

So it wasn't a big surprise to me that the notes threw her off, there's obviously something wrong with her (pills or alcohol or something else, dunno).

  14. I agree with the rehearsal scenario. I have heard her mention watching the rehearsals a few times this season.

I also read that during the commercial break the producers told them they were going to have to give critiques on all of the performers so far and she probably was not prepared for that and remembered the second song in rehearsals and went with it. This is live tv, talk about pressure.

  15. I've heard all that Randy and Simon sometimes watch rehearsals from a feed in their dressing room and base their comments on that.

Mind you, I'm a conspiracy theorist to the highest degree. I think this show - the judges' comments - are extremely scripted, regardless of whether they are using the rehearsals as a basis for whatever they say. Apparently all of the judges are a little slow on the uptake if they have to write notes before hand, and can't be relied upon to give a quick opinion on a 90 second performance they've just heard.

That being said I am apparently the only person who didn't think Paula was on anything last night. I think she was thrown off b/c Ryan said the judges were going to wait until after the second performances to say anything, but then after the first set of songs he asked them for a "quick" opinion. Randy proceeded to read his notes on every single contestant, so Paula being the birdbrain that she is thought she had to do the same. And then ended up reading her comments for BOTH of Jason's performances.

But like I said, I'm a hardcore conspiracist. If anything the producers are just mad that she might have blown their spot up.

  16. I recently saw Paula on an old episode of Friday Night Project. It's been up on YouTube for some time now, but I've always avoided it because I assumed she would just be a drugged up trainwreck, and would ruin the show. But she was pretty entertaining and seemed to have all her marbles!
