Today's Blind Items - Kindness
I feel like most of the kindness items lately have revolved around women. That is all well and good, but it is nice to hear that guys can be kind as well. This one involves an actor who would be A list by the definition that he is the star of a long running dramatic television series. Films? He's done a couple, but is really known for his television role. Age? Not old, not aging, but not in his twenties anymore either.
Our actor is married, and she should be included as well in this kindness since she is part of it. Every two weeks or so, no matter where he is, our actor stops into a local toy store. Generally a big chain, but no love from me since they make him pay retail. Our actor spends $1000 every two weeks like clockwork. When he was filming and kept going to the same store every two weeks, someone asked him why he was buying so many toys every few weeks.
Turns out our actor, stockpiles about 75% of the toys he buys all year long and at Christmas time donates them all to organizations like Toys For Tots, etc. The other 25% he sends to various children's hospitals throughout the year.
You know the best part? The guy doesn't need publicity to keep doing it.
Noah Wyle
ReplyDeleteagreed
ReplyDeleteI wuz just gonna say.....
ReplyDeleteNoah Wyle has a tv show now?
ReplyDeleteThe blind makes it sound like he's currently a star of a long-running drama. Noah hasn't worked in tv since he left ER.
ReplyDeleteChris Meloni, Law and Order
ReplyDeleteWow. Didn't know they still made people like that. I'm genuinely glad to hear it.
ReplyDeletetom welling/ smallville
ReplyDeleteWilliam Petersen from CSI. Long running big ratings show. Has dabbled in movies without much notoriety but is A-list on television... and a nice guy!
ReplyDeleteI read this as someone known for only one current roll, rather than a body of work. Doesn't mean he hasn't acquired a body of work, just that he's known for the one current roll.
ReplyDeleteWow. That's a really cool thing to so - what a great use of his time & wealth.
ReplyDeletecool thing to do - ooops. LOL
ReplyDeleteDavid Caruso
ReplyDeleteGoran Visnjic? No idea why. But he has been on a long running TV Drama and is one of the main stars.
ReplyDeleteMark Harmon - NCIS - 5 years , movies and married to Pam Dawber.
ReplyDeleteAnd definitely on my top five men for sexiness...
Hugh Laurie.
ReplyDeleteBahahahahahahahahaha - David Caruso! Good one Mel!
ReplyDeletemaybe david duchovny?
ReplyDeleteJesse Martin L&O
ReplyDeleteit's Tom Welling. he stars in long running drama, smallville. he's married and not aging, or in his 20's. he's A list by definition. Tom is known for the superman role and has done just a few films. plus he's a nice guy.
ReplyDeletemm tom welling..they shoot smallville about 3 mins from my desk....seeya! (footsteps, door slamming)
ReplyDeleteSabrina..LOL shows how much i watch ER-never!
some Law n Order/ CSI guy then.
Whoever this is, he sounds very special. Maybe he was touched by childhood illness, or someone close to him was. But I love hearing about kindnesses, especially when it has to do with children.
ReplyDeleteAnd, he does it under the radar, without any desire for publicity. That smacks of class.
This is awesome. I want to believe it's Christopher Meloni, but somehow I think it's an L.A. person.
ReplyDeleteEnt, I can't wait for this to be revealed.
i am the second to say hugh laurie is my first thought. def. "A" list, but no publicity hound.
ReplyDeletemy only reservation about him for this one is that he is known only as "Dr. House" to all of america, but in Britain, he is known more for his work with Rowan Atkinson (sp?) for the BBC.
he also did just a few films, and was in (my favorite) "Sense and Sensibility."
anyway, he just seems exactly like the kind of guy who would give like that and never need to tell the world.
jmo.
my only reservation about him for this one is that he is known only as "Dr. House" to all of america
ReplyDeleteLisbeth, I hope you're kidding. Americans know Hugh Laurie from Sense and Sensibility, The Man in the Iron Mask, and the Stuart Little movies. There are probably some movies I'm not even thinking of, but we don't just know him from House.
Kelsey Grammer
ReplyDeleteLisbeth, you're thinking of Stephen Fry, Hugh's comedy partner since forever. I'm sure he's worked with Rowan, but not much.
ReplyDeleteWorth checking out Fry and Laurie on Youtube.
TS, fans of Hugh Laurie may be aware that he has been in those movies but he didnt exactly become a household name in the US until House. The average Joe Public has not seen Sense and Sensibility.
ReplyDeleteLisabeth was right.
point missbliss.
ReplyDeletetwist you may rebutt.
yes, I know he's NOT rowan atckinson's (sp?) MAIN GUY, but he done work with him, and as rowan's WILDLY popular across generations over there, hugh's work on those BBC shows is the first way they think of him.
ReplyDelete(i was engaged to a brit and a HUGE rowan fan.)
twisted, i meant "joe sixpack america." missbliss said it better than i can.
i would never insult hugh, the inimitable "Mr. Palmer,"...."He's always out of humour."
p.s: when my fiance and i saw "Sense and Sensibility", his reaction to hugh was that he did work with (his Pope) Rowan. (was THRILLED) I've never actually seen any footage, and am no expert.
ReplyDeleteI never could get into "Black Adder" (or is that "Blackadder?"), maybe that's why we never married.
(I can't spell at all, I'm high.) (sorry)
ReplyDeleteatkinson, maybe.
can't google, my pizza rolls are ready...
i just took a moment to imbd hugh, and he did like 20 episodes of various forms of "Blackadder" with Rowna atkinson.
ReplyDeleteNOT just a few, ms-wonderland.
harumph!
he's still my guess for the blind here.
OFF TOPIC: Lainey wrote something recently stressing twice that Victoria Beckham is now "eating again," so I believe she answered the blind about the star not eating and being a crazy cranky bitch. ENT posted it here:
http://www.crazydaysandnights.net/2008/04/lainey-blind-item.html
Sam Waterston from the original Law and Order, or is he older than the blind item suggests?
ReplyDeleteOK this could be anyone really. Who would deny it? My favorite aside from the Joe six pack vs Sense & Sensibility has got to be Britney posting her theories on "rolls". You folks do get that this is all a joke and is in no way related to real life? It's "gossip" and the writer here says everyday at the botom of the page:
ReplyDelete"characters and events portrayed in the Blog are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Information on this site may contain errors or inaccuracies; the Blog’s proprietor does not make warranty as to the correctness or reliability of the site's content."
gran, i understood "not old, not aging, etc." to mean 30s or 40s.
ReplyDeleteI'm saying Patrick Dempsey cause of all the work he's done for kids with cancer. He fits all the clues and it sounds like something he would do.
ReplyDeletethis def sounds like something William Peterson and his wife would do.
ReplyDeletethey are huge humanitarians, involved in many worthy causes.
and they are both really smart!
she's like a bio prof and he is very much like his CSI character.
They don't live in L.A. though - see, told you they were smart
What about Steve Carrell?
ReplyDeleteHrrrump. Blackadder is one of my favorite series of all time.
ReplyDeleteFor the record- the first series was The Black Adder, (two words, set in the late Middle Ages), then his name consolidated for the next series set a few centuries later (set in Elizabethan times). Hugh Laurie popped up at the end of the second series (in the finale) and was a regular in Blackadder the Third and Blackadder Goes Forth.
For what it's worth, and I'm sure no one else cares, but I'm currently watching Hugh Laurie's last British TV series before becoming DOCTOR (Mr.? Please) House. It's called Fortysomething. I'm not sure I love it, but it's not terrible either. It's no Blackadder, and its not Jeeves & Wooster either.
In any case, he doesn't fit the clue. House has been on since 2004, Is that really "long running"? As for dramas, I think "Law and Order" is the longest current network drama (since 1990). And SVU has been on since 1999. ER has been on since 1994. In comparison, CSI has only been on since 2000. Though, in the end, I have to side with you guys on these ones because I don't watch any of those shows.
Question: so someone can be A list only for tv? Hmmm.
WTF y'all? Hugh Laurie is known to most of us over 30's as the Prince Regent in Blackadder (3rd), of which I have the complete series.
ReplyDeleteHowever, as he's well past the age given (IMHO) and as how I'm not "hip" to the shows on basic cable, I'ma go with Tom Welling. Mostly, 'cause I think he's a cutie & I hope it's him.
Tom Welling is supposedly divorcing though. And is having a show on the CW (or previously WB), even if you are the star, considered A list? I'm not being contentious, I'm really asking.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the Chris Meloni guess!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the Chris Meloni guess!
ReplyDeleteWilliam Petersen.
ReplyDeleteI have read something very similar about him before. The only thing that confuses me is the "not aging" comment. *I* would call WP aging. (?)
Chris Meloni was the first name that popped into my head - he and his wife have 2 young children (well, under age 10) as well.
ReplyDeleteNot Goran Visnjic, he and his wife are (quietly) separated. Could be Noah Wyle, but his wife is a beard- would they really be hanging at the toy store together? Maybe, because they appear to be good friends.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I am one of the 3 people who STILL watches ER.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Blackadder. I have series 2, 3 and 4 on DVD but decided to give season 1 a miss because the everything seems so much better in the world having Blackadder as the evil genius and Baldrick as the dunce. Love! :D
ReplyDeletejust throwing one more name out there.....michael chiklis/the shield( long running drama in season 7). he's 42(i thought he was older), and has the emmy which def makes him A list TV. he'e done some movies but is known for this role. and, he is married.
ReplyDeleteDavid Boreanaz.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was Kelsey Grammer but this blind makes it sound as if the TV series is still on. My second choice was Hugh Laurie but his wife doesn't live in the US and I don't think HOUSE would be considered long-running yet.

But, but, but....
That's not what Lisbeth said.
Flora, yes, EL distinguishes the two by saying the person is an A list television actor or an A list film actor. Sometimes he says something like they're an A list television actor and a B list film actor if they do both.
Gold star behavior. Have throbbing girl-boner for selfless nurturing.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention he must have an awesomely fun "toy room" !
I think it's too bad this guy doesn't contact the actual distributors for some of these toys - I'll bet he could quietly get them at cost and double his volume in terms of donations. For the amount he's spending he could be buying wholesale very easily (and they'd most likely ship the toys free freight to his warehouse or where ever he stocks them).
ReplyDeleteTom Welling is 30 (31 on Saturday!). "Not in his twenties anymore" implies someone a bit older to me. (Like late 30s.)
ReplyDeleteKelsy Grammer is on a currently running sitcom - Back to you with Patricia Heaton. I heard that he is a genuinly nice guy....and his wife helped him through his alcohol/drug addiction. That takes a really good person.
ReplyDelete@Zene:
ReplyDeleteObvs, ENT heard yer bitchin:
"Crazy Days and Nights is a gossip site. The site publishes rumors, conjecture, and fiction, in addition to accurately reported information...."
haha Fry and Laurie! Some of the wigs they wore...Definitely worth looking up on youtube
ReplyDeleteSpring Luvr: it's role, not roll honey.
just sayin'
Matthew Fox? He has done a few movies lately.
ReplyDelete
