Madonna Is A Jackass
So in case you didn't know, and honestly you probably didn't, the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Show is on Monday night. Although the Hall Of Fame has basically screwed itself over the past few years by not inducting groups and singers it should have and thus removing itself from any kind of hope that you will find the show live on television anywhere, it has always promised one thing. That unless someone is close to death, dead, or the biggest asshole in the world, they will play live at their induction ceremony. Apparently no one told Madonna this, and so she just plans to put her smug ass right down in a chair and let Justin "I'm A Big Ass Too" Timberlake introduce her and induct her and blather on and on about how wonderful she is.
So, who on earth is going to sing a medley of Madonna songs? Why Iggy Pop of course. Now I know we all love Iggy and if he sings Like A Virgin or Material Girl I think we will all laugh our asses off, but let us also ask why Mr. Pop is not in the Hall of Fame. Let us ask ourselves why we went from the 60's to the 80's in one swoop with these inductions. Where are all those 70's artists and disco pioneers who made us try to forget that the 70's were really a crappy decade despite what a television show based in Wisconsin would have you believe.
This induction show is so bad that unless you are one of the four people who has VH1 Classic you won't be able to watch this show until March 22nd and then only on VH1. That is a Saturday by the way, so I am sure you will stay at home that Saturday night and hang out with the kids watching Madonna look haughty with her fake accent, and teeth and face that seem to get more haggard by the week.
Is performing in front of your peers for free that shameful? Is it just the fact that you are performing for free that you detest? I thought music was supposed to bring the world together. So, instead on the show performing you have Iggy (not in the Hall) Patti LaBelle (not in the Hall) Lou Reed (In the Hall, but doing Leonard Cohen music so you never know) and John Mellencamp. Yes, John is getting inducted, and guess what? He is actually going to perform, and he is bringing Billy Joel with him and trying to get others to come so that way Madonna and her band of sycophants don't ruin the entire thing for everyone there.
Below is a great video from one of the ceremonies with Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin performing together.
love me some stooges!
ReplyDeleteand she's been taking herself waaaaaay to serious for a while now.
Well, I would rather watch Iggy Pop than Madonna. Maybe she has a better handle on what the audience would prefer to hear. ;-)
ReplyDeleteBut I imagine her reason is not being paid or the fact that not enough people will see the program. Whoever thought she belonged in the ROCK Hall of fame is crazy in the first place.
Madonna not performing live is just indicitive of her influence in shaping the music industry we have today. Now I respect the hell out of Madonna. I don't exactly like her but you have to give it to someone who has been able to have such longevity without having the most powerful tools in the shed.
ReplyDeleteWhen she does perform she puts on one helluva show. But she's not the kind of artist who can just hop on stage and wow you with her musical talent. She's brilliant at production numbers. If that's all I could do I surely wouldn't want to have to bring it in front of a room of legendary hall of fame musicians. Not that that's the reason for Madonna's decision, but...
Sadly, Madonna's legacy has spawned so many artist that are less about music, more about the production and an audience less capable and/or interested in decerning the difference.
kc's got it -- Madonna may have shot herself in the foot; maybe no one WANTS to see her perform. More likely she plans to jump up onstage and do an "impromptu" number, thrilling everyone.
ReplyDeleteNow: on to more important stuff. Back the truck up a minute, folks: Patti LaBelle isn't in the RRHOF? What's up with that?
It really pisses me off when they put these fucking pop stars in the ROCK N ROLL Hall of Fame...how they could even bring themselves to have Iggy playing, without being inducted, and to have him perform Madonna songs just blows my mind...Its like some kind of backward universe. Next you'll be telling me that twenty years from now, Beck is going to perform "Hit Me Baby One More Time" at Britney Spears' induction.
ReplyDeleteSince Dick Dale is not in the R&R Hall of Fame, they are irrelevant to me. Madonna, for christ's sake? Madonna is good enough, but not Dick Dale? Fuck the bastards.
ReplyDeleteyeah... induct so pop-tart and forget all about KISS, Iggy and Alice Cooper... and the Aerosmith with Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith with AC/DC rocked!!! It should always be like that!!! You do get inducted in the Hall of Fame of Rock after all so get up and perform to show why you got in the first place!!!
ReplyDelete**cough cough** Don't you just LOVE Zeppelin
ReplyDeleteIggy Pop is going to perform her songs? I hope he fucking tortures and saterizes them. She's a c*nt.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't through that word around.
well i DID use to love reading this blog...
ReplyDeletedamn...relax people.
did it occur to any of you that sheis the only CURRENT artist being inducted... the only one with a new record coming out? so to date herself by playing "open your heart" is against her current agenda - a new record; a current record.
she never wants these kidns of accodaes because it is perceived as retrospective and she is trying to stay current.
its pretty simple actually. lighten the hell up people.... girl has survived this biz a lot longer than anyone else with that kinda clout - ease up. damn.
oh - and why is everyone acting like IGGY had no choice????? HELLO! he chose to do it.
ReplyDeletesorry when they choose you to be in the Hall of fame, toss the ego aside, read A New Earth and get on the fricken stage.
ReplyDeletewe give this biotch too much credit, it's all about the Benjamins and don't think for a second that she's all about her art, if she were she'd get her rusty butt onstage and show us why she was chosen to begin with.
HOF's got a serious credibility problem. But I'm not so concerned that I'll watch the show. They can induct whoever they want. I don't care anymore.
ReplyDeleteoh we offended the gay. lol.
ReplyDeletei like your blog Joe.
Yes, THE gay. i am THE gay. apparently i am the only one here.
ReplyDeletewell, i like your blog too, but looking like posh isnt a lofty goal but i will let you have it.
