Charlize Theron Has An Interesting Philosophy
While speaking at the Dublin Film Festival, Charlize Theron was asked what she was going to wear to the Academy Awards. When she said pajamas, the crowd didn't quite understand. Seems that Charlize is of the opinion that unless you or your film is nominated, than it is not appropriate to go to the show. Not just for the Academy Awards, but for an award show.
"We are not going. I don't think you go to those kind of award shows unless you are nominated. I think it's a special thing if you get a nomination, or your film does. Then you go. But we don't have any nominations or anything like that in the house, so we sit in our jammies and watch it on the couch."
Now if all stars felt or acted the same way as Charlize then the Academy would have no one there. Of course one way they combat that is by inviting as many people as possible to present an award or read who wins or requiring that if you win the year before you need to show up the next year. I think it is an interesting philosophy she follows. She does lots of other crazy crap but this is one I think is kind of cool. Haven't you ever wondered why a celebrity was on the red carpet being fondled by Ryan Seacrest when you know they have no real reason to be at the show? Is it because they want or need the attention. Is it because they love getting dressed up, or they want a free dinner after the show? I think for the most part it is attention and also not being secure enough to be absent from a gathering where so many peers are. Are they afraid someone will get or steal a role or make some connection they could have made if they were there?
I think it shows a certain level of security from Charlize that she doesn't even give a crap one way or the other who is there or what goes on or who is talking to whom. Of course if everyone were that secure than we would have no Teri Hatchers in the world and we would all be bored and have nothing to gossip about.
Aren't a number of actors also there to promote upcoming movies? I remember Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson presenting one year right before Starsky & Hutch was released, and lots of people asking what the f- they were doing there.
ReplyDeletehow about some respect for this year's nominated actors? what if everyone was as selfish? no one there to present HER oscar or clap for HER? how would that feel honey? she's not going unless it's about HER. nice.
ReplyDeleteHer look in that picture reminds me of early Virginia Madsen.
ReplyDeleteI thought that was the proper etiquette for the Oscars, you don't attend the ceremony unless you are nominated or a presenter. It's not right to steal attention away from those people who are nominated. it's their night to shine!
ReplyDeleteMy God! She is breathtakingly gorgeous! I mean, not that that's important or anything.
ReplyDeleteI'd go just for the food and the lifetime supply of snark material if I could.
ReplyDeleteI don't see the love for this woman. I can't stand her.
ReplyDeleteCharlize is hot, but sometimes I wish she would take another hit from her apple pipe and be quiet. The woman has little incidents of word vomit like this all the time.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like sour grapes to me.
i disagree..i think she's saying it like it is..why go through all the trouble..from what i hear its quite stressful and boring as hell AND long.
ReplyDeletegod i think about how long it feels watching the friggin show. i think she's misunderstood. IMO
Really, she should be going to support Tommy Lee Jones for his co-starring role in her movie last year. But, I also understand the hassle of glamming up, dealing with the critiques and annoying Seacrest/Cojo/etc people.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I have a big Oscar-themed dinner and invite a bunch of people over. Gay superbowl indeed!
Sometimes what she says makes sense.
ReplyDeleteMakes sense to me--yes, it's a good way to see & be seen, but supposedly it's also long, drawn-out, exhausting, and boring as hell for long stretches (remember, they can't turn the channel or go make a sandwich or whatever the rest of us watching on TV can do). If you don't have to be there (as a nominee or presenter) or don't feel compelled to peddle yourself, why go to all the trouble of spending the entire day getting dressed, sitting in a limo, and then stuck in a theater for 4-6+ hours before you can finally escape and go get something to eat and drink? (I heard a story once about someone sneaking crackers in, and said crackers being passed along through the seats to the very hungry attendees, which doesn't surprise me at all.) It would be fun to go once, just to check the whole thing out up close, but overall watching it in your jammies frankly sounds like more fun than being there in person.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Charlize doesn't want to take any attention away from the nominated stars.
ReplyDeletei have huge respect for her but if she ever gets invited to be an academy member [she will] and she accepts i wil be mad.
