The Reviews Are In

Somewhere between Pieces Of April and now, Katie Holmes has gone from a promising actress who was pretty damn good to one of the worst actresses ever. I don't know if Tom Cruise makes her take acting classes at home, or if she has no confidence or if it is the meds or the prison or what, but this is really getting into Jessica Simpson territory. Here are a sample of the reviews for her in Mad Money. In full disclosure, most critics didn't really like the move but they thought Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton did a good job with what they were given. Not so Katie Holmes. Enjoy.

"And the cinematic comeback of the year award goes to…somebody other than Katie Holmes,” NY Post. The Post went on to say this about Katie's return. “the most cringe-making return since Love Boat: The Next Wave.“Holmes, with Alice Cooper hair and crazy Jim Carrey eyes, looks terrible and acts worse, unless this movie is unintentionally a lobotomy documentary,” the reviewer writes. “Whatever could have happened to her in the last couple of years to zap the talent out of her like this?”

The New York Times says Holmes is “the movie’s weakest link.”

Variety adds that throughout the film “Holmes is awkwardly upsetting the balance” between Latifah and Keaton.

Wall Street Journal-“Their heist is only the pretext for jinks that range from medium high (as played out by Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton) to painfully low (as perpetrated by Katie Holmes, who pops her eyes, scrunches her nose and shakes her booty in lieu of acting),”

And Katie Holmes comes across as an immature actress trying desperately to be taken seriously. Holmes' movie career has been spotty at best and she hasn't done anything noteworthy since 2003. Her work here indicates her best role might be to stay off the screen and play wife and mother. - Reelviews

Holmes (who looks anorexic) mugs annoyingly. - Seattle Post Intelligencer

  1. Could this possibly be why in all the trailers for this I've seen on TV, there's *maybe* a 2 second shot of Katie (oops, sorry Tom, meant Kate) ?

poor thing, I hate to see this happening to her. Maybe she'd better hang on to Tom after all.

  3. poor thing? bought and paid for!

the only acting classes Katie is taking at home is "How to fake being married to a gay man obesessed with a dead cult leader."

  4. that's harsh. wow. but why did she choose this role? the others obviously did it for a quick paycheck. it's as if tom doesn't want her to succeed. sounds familiar. only room in that home for 1 star and 1 wifebot.

  5. I was a huge fan of Katie Holmes in high school and Pieces of Apirl is an annual Thanksgiving tradition in my family, but what the hell happened?!!

Oh wait, she sold her soul to a batshit crazy Scientologist.

  6. This is news? She sucked big time in Thank You For Smoking. She's not going to get any better. She's multi-tasking. Acting as someone in love with Tom Cruise is probably the best paid gig she's going to get in her life.

  8. And lets not forget Batman Begins with Christian Bale. Thank God she's been replaced by Maggie G. I do agree thought that she was good in Pieces of April.
Sad part is that when she was a good actress, no one even knew her name. Now that she sucks she's everywhere.

    Totally agree with captivagrl's comment.

I actually wouldn't put it past Tom to pay reviewers to give Katie's performance the thumbs down (not that they'd need much persuasion).
He would hate to have another Nicole on his hands.

  11. Does anyone even care about Katie as an actress anymore?

Sorry, Judi, but I think that the minute she signed her marriage 'contract' with Tiny Tom, she lost any credibility she might ever have obtained in being considered a serious actress.

  13. Agreed, Mia, which prompted me to ask the question. No credibility so no one cares, you know?

I just feel bad for her. Nothing is working out as planned. Unless she truly did fall
in love with Tom, she did this to further her career. Now not only is her career in shambles, but Tom's has fallen further than I think anyone could have predicted.
I think the best thing they could do would be to disappear for about a year. No press, no sightings, no movies....and let the curiosity factor build up for awhile.

I knew this movie would bomb no matter who starred in it. The plot just sounded stupid. You could put Oscar winners in this movie and it still would've played the same.

  16. I don't feel sorry for Katie. I feel terrible for the likes of Diane Keaton, and even Queen Latifah. WTH have they ever done to deserve to have their names attached to such a shitcan movie?

I doubt I'll even be tempted to buy this POS when it hits the $1 bin at the local AAFES.
