It's A Contract Marriage
At this point, I don't even think I need to read the book next week when it comes out. Here is the latest to have been leaked:
Andrew Morton is claiming in his book that Katie Holmes signed a contract to commit to Scientology and that her father brokered a high-paying pre-nup. Morton claims Cruise had Holmes sign a document before they started dating that allowed "Scientologists full control over her life."
Now I know why she blinks a bunch when they let her out into the sun. It is all making sense now. The alleged document required Holmes to "turn only to Scientology's treatments" for herself and her children's welfare and "must never use psychiatric care or psychiatric drugs." I hope that she is till allowed to drink herself into a stupor. Maybe she has found some member of the staff she trusts, and she sits up in her padded cell at night, slowly sipping on some gin and juice. Oh yes, definitely gin and juice. Katie is old school.
Morton maintains that Holmes' father, Martin, an attorney, negotiated a pre-nup that would award her $3 million for each year of their marriage.
When contacted by US Weekly about the allegations, Holmes' rep had no comment and the Church of Scientology told Us, "Ms. Holmes never signed any agreement."
Holmes' rep? Please. Like Katie Holmes' rep has anything to do except say yes sir to both Paul Wagner and Tom Cruise. As far as the Scientologists. You notice they don't deny the existence of an agreement, just that Katie didn't sign one, she just had it implanted with all of the other computer chips they loaded her with on her wedding night and the sperm of L Ron.
At least they gave her great hair and a style upgrade.
ReplyDeleteMay be worth it...
I'm sorry, if I met a man who requested that I sign a contract regarding my religion, not to mention my life how I know it...I'd be dialing 911 and gettin' the hell outta there! But it probably wouldn't matter by that point because he would already had me tackled down and lobotomized before I had a chance to run because he wouldn't want the request he just made to leak out... Gosh, I feel so sorry for Katie. Too doggone young and vulnerable for that crap to be pulled on her.
ReplyDeleteTwo million a week wouldn't be sufficient compensation for having to have anything to do with Tom Cruise. Massive additional dollars for being forced to endure Scientology would be necessary, and even then not worth it. Good lord Katie, what the hell is wrong with you?
ReplyDeleteShe probably saw it as a career move. She saw Nicole winning an Oscar and thought, "Hmm I could do that."
ReplyDeleteHas anyone else heard that Will Smith handed out Scientology leaflets to his crew when his latest film wrapped? I think I saw that on Faded Youth, but maybe someone else can confirm it. Cruis is not hanging out with Will and Jada, and the Beckhams, for nothing. It's so clearly his mission to try and recruit global stars to join the church, or at minimum, say nice things about it.
ReplyDeleteKatie is a freak. I don't care how much you get paid, to give up your life like that is tantamount to slavery.
I don't feel sorry for Katie. She knew what she was doing.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't people just get married because they truly love each other? People who enter such 'marriage contracts' are not fit to be married in the first place.
Was it in the contract to only have one bio-robot, um, I mean, bio-child?
I doubt the contract stated only one child...they will probably attempt to produce their own commune of short adults to reign over them when they get too old to tie their shoes.
ReplyDeleteYeah, why feel sory for someone who contracted an advantageous (well, at least at the beginning) business relationship. She knows what she's doing. And the hair??? It always looks so greasy and unkempt.
ReplyDeletetomtyler, I saw the same thing - it was a coupon for a free auditing session or something along those lines. Find out all of your problems and sign your life away to scientology to fix them!
ReplyDeleteAt least Katie is looking happier these days. I was really worried about her for awhile...so depressed and down. But I guess the Church hypnotized her. Which, if that is how she is going to have to live her life, I guess its best to be hypnotized.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, it's sounding like the role of a lifetime. The ultimate reality show. I'm sure that's how she rationalized it.
ReplyDeleteI don't get a "money hungry" vibe from her. She seems like a genuinely nice person. It seems to me that that Tom turned on his playboy charm, swept her off her feet, wined and dined her until she was smitten and sold. After all, Tom didn't start doing freaky stupid things until he publicly announced he was in love with her. She was all giggly, glowing and happy all the time. Don't see that now. I honestly don't think she truly understood what she was getting herself into. Especially now that Tom has made himself known that he is a freak, with freaky beliefs. His popularity is WAY down, his films don't do well and they are in constant criticizm from the public AND losing long term powerful friends & business partners(Speilberg). I am sure she is really questioning her decision now. Can you just hear the pep talks he must have to give her on an hourly basis???
ReplyDeleteI dunno, I just know at 24 I wasn't making the smartest decisions even if I thought they were good ones. Point in reference...first husband. HA!
Ent, You mean Paula Wagner..
ReplyDeleteonly $3 million? not enough to have $cio minders everywhere.
ReplyDeletethat ain't no Dawson Creek money.
ReplyDeleteOT:
ReplyDeleterare avis...did you ever divulge your connection to LA? I haven't been reading all the posts the last few days...attempting to "spring clean".

All that in the 16 days she was missing then emerged miraculously in love?? I don't think so, Jolara. Read this article...

I don't give a crap how gay he is or how much he feels he needs to cover it up, or how stupid this woman is for signing over her life and her dad pimping her out for money and fame. What pisses me off the most is that they can get "married" and somehow, this doesn't violate the sanctity of marriage in the way that evangelicals say gay marriage does. I get so pissed when i have friends who have been together for years and are unable to get married and make it official and legal, and you've got people like Cruise creating a sham marriage and that's somehow ok.
Phew! Thanks for letting me rant. :-)
Happy Friday everyone!
Okay, so maybe I can see some naive immature woman going for this - but WHAT THE FUCK is wrong with her father?????? You know he probably knew about the contract she had to sign. I would have whisked her off for some deprogramming.
ReplyDeletei wonder if she realizes that when they divorce her child(ren) will disown her.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't do that for a billion dollars
I don't know how these things work in America but in my country a contract that would give "Scientologists full control over her life" wouldn't have any validation whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteIf that can work in the US, it certainly is a fascinating matter!
I agree that Katie knows what she's doing. She's been around Hollywood for awhile, she's not a turnip off the truck (so to speak).
ReplyDeleteI just thought of something though. Why hasn't Tom stuck his nose into the whole Britney issue? It's a classic platform for his psychology/scientology rant.
He's been strangely silent. No movie to promote? Better management? (Yes on both). I wonder what Katie's take is?
"You don't understand these things like I do, Matt."
I crave it!
The same reason Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson didn't stick their noses in the Michael Jackson cases. Even THEY know when someone is FUBR.
ReplyDeleteSista, that's nothing new. Guys have been paying families of the bride for years...i believe its something called a dowery.
ReplyDeleteOf course the payment was in a form of 20 cows and 3 chickens. Looks like her daddy won big.
elle, I remember reading something about scientology offering to help Britney a month or two ago.
ReplyDeleteWhat I want to know is...will Tom keep doing this? Finding young, ambitious actresses with potential then "falling in love with them", marrying them, making them over, getting them jobs, etc.? You just KNOW this is not going to last with Katie...so what happens in 10 years? or 20 years? or, god forbid, 30 years?
ReplyDeleteIs he going to keep doing this? It's kind creepy...and so very very OBVS.
Tho I must admit, KatE looks absolutely FABULOUS.
ReplyDeleteTracee, does the family pay someone so fucked up to marry their daughter, though? In modern times? In America?
ReplyDelete$3 million a year? Wouldn't she have been able to make that if she kept doing what she was doing? Go, Wonderboys, Pieces of April, Thankyou for smoking. Wasn't she on her way to the bigger paychecks. Oh Katie!!!!!!!! Katie!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I was thinking Redgurl!
ReplyDeleteKatie has had her share of flops, but she's good, she's REALLY good!
I don't know if I could handle giving up all control of my life (especially if children were in the picture).
FREE KATIE? haha
3 mil a year? Where do I sign up? Hell, I can "act" like I'm head over heels! *daydreaming about all the manolos and chanels I can buy with 3 mil a year* SIGH.
ReplyDeleteIf Britney joins Scientology, I hope MTV can get exclusive rights to her auditing sessions! Woo wee!
ReplyDeleteI get what you all are saying and maybe I am naive about her and her situation. I vaguely recall though, way back, when the "pre-nup" was taking a long time to finalize & was a HUGE ordeal with her dad (who is a lawyer, I believe). Hopefully he inserted some clauses for her and her childs safety if they ever divorce (besides the cash payoff). I betcha anything it had to do with Suri and any other offspring from the marriage. They probably saw what was going on with Nicole and maybe attempted interference. *shrugs shoulders* I dunno.
ReplyDeleteI still stand by my idea that I don't think she completely knew what she was getting into at the time. I am sure she was star struck and smitten and couldn't see past that. I mean, who wouldn't be in that position? Tom was head of his game at that time despite the gay rumors. If a man who was allegedly gay was hitting on me, I wouldn't think he was gay or at the most I would consider BI. Plus toss in the fact that he is a highly popular, widely respected actor (at the time). It would make me consider...(although, I personally don't find him attractive...now if it were Johnny Depp ...)
"You, heterosexual all the way. I fuck this woman."

hello kitty, I'm sure your post was in response to a certain annoying and profane poster who's best ignored but I'm not getting why you would post rules for the "great, beleaguered sport of MMA". Blogger & Yahoo have their own code of conduct for posters readily available when you click on the links at those sites.
ReplyDeleteTwis, Katie's dad might have been making the best out of a bad situation. You know, that she's gonna marry him anyway so make sure she doesn't get the shaft when he dumps her after the 10 year contract is up.
ReplyDeleteMajik, nice to hear from you again. I just hope that there are provisions if Suri needs medical treatment and Tom refuses (God forbid).
And I agree, Tom is not the handsomest guy, but if it were Johnny Depp, hmmmmm....
Cyn
Penelope made 2 million a year just for dating him.
ReplyDeleteZero sympathy for Katie Holmes. She knew what she was getting into. Hell, even Sca-jo had the sense to haul ass.
Sucks for miss Holmes that he was let go from Paramount right around the time I'm sure it started sinking in that she married a guy for money, literally. Not much career help there.
Also, she's not a good actress. Have some of you seen movies I haven't? Because she kind of sucks.
what religion are you EL? You seem to know a lot about Scientology. I do not think Scientology is a real religion, but last time I checked, a person could believe anything they wanted to. SO why stay on Cruise's case all the time? Who cares what he believes? He is only a movie star, for pete's sake. Did you use to be his lawyer by any chance? Is that the reason for the hostility?
ReplyDeleteJohnny Depp?!?!!?!? Who are you all kidding?? We would be paying him!! When I'm right, I'm right!
ReplyDeleteTwisted- I'm completely with you. What kind of parent pimps out their kid! The only thing I can figure was that he was protecting her b/c it was happening and nothing was stopping the powers that 'be'. But notice the wording of the response of the reps, "Ms. Holmes never signed any agreement", a "contract" isn't necessarily an "agreement. Tricky...its a legal and binding document.
