Like I Needed Another Reason To Like Tina Fey
Tina Fey is not afraid to talk smack about anyone. You have to love that about her. There is none of the don't burn any bridges stuff with her. Her latest victim is Paula Abdul. In this month's Playboy, Tina Fey doesn't call Paula the worst guest in SNL history, but it was pretty damn close.
Paula was such a wreck, that SNL staffers were unsure she could even make it through a show. The writers had to simplify everything for her so she wouldn't get distracted. "Ooooh look. Lights. Pretty lights."
In an American Idol sketch, Paula claimed she wouldn't know how to play herself so Amy Poehler ended up having to play Paula's role. Paula was not amused by Amy's rendition.
I have always heard that Kathleen Turner was by far the worst guest host in the history of the show, but just for sheer brainless moronic behavior, Paula has to be right up there.
When Tina and Paula ran into each other the following year in an airport, Paula acted as if Tina were a nobody, and barely acknowledged her presence. I just hope that when American Idol begins again next month, that one day Paula will go get her botox injections, and then come to the show, and realize at some point that the injections have paralyzed her facial muscles and she is unable to open her mouth. I think in the past this would have happened, but she has managed to get a replacement. I want it to happen on the live show. I want it to be messy.
Tina Fey is the BEST! She is so smart and funny and doesn't take crap from anyone. I Love that!

ReplyDeleteI have such a MASSIVE girl crush on Tina Fey! It's gotten so bad that I get excited when her Amex Ad comes on TV haha! She really helped women gain more credibility in the 90's as comedy writers.
ReplyDeleteLOVE how she calls out celebs! Remember when she called Paris Hilton a "piece of shit!" on Howard Stern?

I've always thought Tina Fey was highly overrated and quite self-enchanted, but I agree with her on this and I've never seen American Idol and haven't watched SNL in awhile. Has it not been suggested that it would be good to replace Paula with someone who can stay sober and doesn't have obvious mental health problems?
ReplyDeleteAmy Poehler is fantastic.
Love a woman who isnt afraid to speak her mind. Her comments on Paris last year were hilarious, even if she did end up kinda sorta apologizing for it in this Playboy interview.
ReplyDeleteLove Tina Fey, Love 30 Rock, Love Mean Girls.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Lorne Michaels himself, Steven Seagal was their worst host ever.
ReplyDeleteFor SNL fans, check out the big fat book on the history of SNL with interviews from nearly everyone who has been on the show. Except for Eddie Murphy for some reason.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, from a fan standpoint, I think the absolute worst, or most disappointing host, had to be Robert DeNiro. I had read where Lorne had wanted Robert DeNiro on the show for years and when he finally agrees to do the show, he was horrible. He read the teleprompter like a local newscaster.
I second your motion dnfrommn
ReplyDeleteLove Tina Fey, Love 30 Rock, Love Mean Girls.
The big fat book is "Live From New York" and I think it is still available in paperback.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend it--it is full of interesting little factoids such as:
1. Al Franken stole a few pair of Gap jeans from the skit display while the security guard was weeping during Paul McCartney's Thursday rehearsal of "Hey Jude".
2. G.E. Smith and the band used to buy and snort a whole gram of coke during the commercial breaks. In the old days, of course.
And no, Eddie Murphy is the only one who refused to participate in the book. They devote quite a few pages in the introduction to the reasons why.
Ask Santa for this one. It's a juicy little read that is very easy to digest in small pieces.
I'm thinking the line "in the past this would have happened, but she's managed to get a replacement" may mean she's the singer that had someone else singing for her on her records. Its an old blind item. Anyone remember it?
ReplyDeleteI love Tina Fey. She's brilliant. And her show is one of the funniest things on tv!
ReplyDeleteWhy was Kathleen Turner considered the worst??? :)
ReplyDeleteI think you might be right Brenda22. You mean the big MV item don't you? I'm pretty sure the most common guess was Paula. I wonder if Ent will ever give us more hints for that.
ReplyDeletePhilly girl Tina Fey ROCKS!!
ReplyDeleteI wanna be her when I grow up.

Tina ROCKS! I loved her comments on Paris...she was on howard stern talking about the cast finding ratty, nasty, blonde weave peices all over the set lol.
