Kidnapped Mexican Singer Found Murdered
The lead singer of one of the more popular Mexican bands, K-PAZ DE LA SIERRA was found dead this morning after he had been kidnapped following a concert on Sunday night. Sergio Gomez was seized along with three other men after the band played a gig in the western state of Michoacan, Mexico.
The other hostages were later released, but authorities in the country have confirmed Gomez was tortured and strangled before his body was dumped on the outskirts of the city of Morelia on Monday.
Police say the motive for the attack is still unclear, but the area is known for regular outbursts of drug-related violence. K-Paz de la Sierra are one of the country's best known bands, playing the U.S. and Mexican Duranguense music scene.
I would put their level of popularity around a Maroon 5. Popular, but not like Kanye West or something. There are some that are speculating that the singer owed a great deal of money to the people who killed him, and that is why he was tortured first. Some Mexican bands in the past have been blackmailed into being drug mules for the cartels. The buses and personal possessions are rarely searched as they cross the border, and if the bands don't cooperate, then you see what happens.
