Welcome To The World Of WD

I think that everyone is going to enjoy the world that is WD. WD is the kind of person who works harder than anyone else, and is the type of person that makes whatever she is doing come together. WD is someone who has only been working for a few years but has done just about everything.

She has produced shorts, acted, done stunt work, voices, writing, and anything else she can find to keep working and achieving her dream. I don't know what she sees as her perfect role, but I like to think of her as a younger, hotter Amy Poehler who would rock Saturday Night Live. She fits seamlessly into dramas or comedies, and is someone, who most importantly will make sure that each of us is updated weekly with her struggles and successes.

She is someone who is unafraid to speak her mind and deliver a little snark which is always something admirable in a blogger, especially on this site. She also isn't going to flake out which I think we can all appreciate. She will start out anonymously, specifically because she knows you all enjoy a good puzzle. She reads the blog everyday, and I know will be reading the comments on her posts.

Because she makes no secret of the fact that she reads the blog, her friends also probably read the blog. I therefore would ask her friends to respect the puzzle and not just blurt out her identity.

Today's clue is an interesting one. She and Jennifer Garner share a guru who has aided each of their careers.

In her first post, WD shares a little of her acting philosophy and how she views Hollywood from the inside. In later posts she will update us with what is going on in her life and career.

Life of a struggling actress or a just barely not struggling actress, one that is actually just managing to keep her bills paid and stomach full by learning and adapting as she goes. Will this be interesting for people to read? I hope so. For those in the same boat, maybe it's helpful to see that your plight is worth publishing. For those not even in the industry, maybe it's helpful to truly understand what it is that goes on out here...because let me assure, not many of us live the life in "Entourage".
Not many of us are starring in a show, have been in movies that "you might have seen" and yet we are happy, creating and fulfilled...most days.

What I loved about moving to Los Angeles was the constant state of creativity. I lived in the midwest right before and always felt a little like an outsider. We never seemed to have the same goals or dreams. Then I move to LA and everyone has a project they thought of, wrote, are pitching, or working on, are editing, that is in the festivals. All of a sudden I was surrounded by "my people". What I learned very quickly is there are 3 basic types of people in LA.

1. The Dreamer. ---The dreamer has loads of talent. The dreamer can come up with a story that you've never heard that is so brilliantly woven that you see it played in your head as you speak but the dreamer never writes it down. A dreamer is the best actor you've EVER seen in person or on stage but never seems to be able to get their headshots done. A dreamer never seems to be able to submit to get an agent. The dreamers are the ones that should be working and making this industry a better place...but never get out of their heads. They only succeed despite themselves, and usually, only because they have a Doer as a close friend to push them constantly.

2. The Doer. ---The doer is not as talented as the dreamer but they do something that is more important than talent, THEY DO. This is so rare in this town. There is a wide spectrum of doers in this town and the ratio to doer vs talent varies as well. So you end up with a lot of crap because the doer DOES but very little actual talent or thought went into it. But every once in awhile you find a Doer with just the right amount of talent and action and you get a gem.

3. The Entitled. ---The entitled move out here entitled to a movie career. They are neither talented or pro-active. Generally they give up and go home after a couple of months to a year of not getting discovered. But every now and then one slips through. Sometimes, one is so convinced they are entitled they convince someone else and they are given opportunities most Doer's would kill for. Usually, the Entitled don't appreciate their luck and end up giving up anyway. But sometimes, they stick around and end up being Jessica Alba.

  8. Thank you WD...

And would you classify yourself as a Dreamer or a Doer?

Enty makes you sound like a Doer with the heart of a Dreamer :)

(Can anyone tell it's a slow day at work for me today?)

  9. JJ Abrams for the guru, mos def!

  10. WD, welcome, thanks for sharing with us!
Hopefully, there won't be any "haters" but likely there will. Don't let 'em get to you. We got your back, girl.

p.s. if "the guru" is the personal trainer, would that be Gunner Peterson??
    If so, you're a lucky girl! He's a doll!

  11. If it is JJ Abrams- What about Maggie Grace- from Columbus OH?

  12. Jax - wrong guru. Buffy was Joss Whedon.

I agree that the guru is JJ Abrams, though. Could WD by Kiele Sanchez - the ill-fated Nikki from Lost? It's a little obscure, I know.

  13. oops my bad..what about Tru Calling?

    Welcome WD.

Are you friends with Jennifer Garner? Does this mean I can't snark on Affleck anymore?

  15. evangeline Lilly..and if it is WJ Mouat HS in the hizzy!
(we went to high school together)

Kiele doesn't have producing/stunt credit per IMDb (although she was in a pilot for Young MacGyver with Jared Padalecki - what an awful idea that must have been). I think we're on the right track with JJ Abrams, maybe someone who guested on Alias/Lost.

Also, given the hint about being a younger version of Amy P, I'm thinking blonde.

I wish it were Zoe Bell, that would be freakin' awesome. But her muse would've been Tarantino or Raimi (Xena is the first cast listing for her).

  17. I'm thinking (hoping) Amber Benson? Joss is her guru as JJ is Jennifer Garners. Maybe they don't have the same guru, just similar.

  18. Welcome, and thank you for the great post! It was interesting, well written and funny. I'm looking forward to the next!

  19. Just a question....

Didn't ENT post a pic last week of Christian Ricci, Rashida Jones and Ali Larter saying that one of them was a new spy? Or was this is ref to something else.

I have a hard time keeping up with you guys. :)

    ~crazy peanut~

P.S. Hi mystery poster and welcome...I'm a newbie here too.

Hey peanut. Ricci/Rashida/Larter was in reference to his Emmy/Golden Globes/Oscar spy or possibly to the infamous AP who likes to borrow ent's car. (There should be tags for the event or AP if you want to keep up.)

  26. Welcome, WD! Great post. I'm looking forward to more.

And I think your categories of people extends beyond HWood and into the real world, based on my experience.

I have no idea who this is but I do agree it's likely the guru is JJ.

  27. I love her already! LOL, well thank you for hanging out with us here. I might stop lurking after all these months now...this is about to get really good!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think the guru is Valerie Walters Jen's trainer, who else does she train?

  29. YAY! it took a new mystery poster to get me to finally figure out HOW TO POST AGAIN!!!

    welcome, new friend!!

    and, HI, EVERYBODY!

  30. Hey WD - welcome! GREAT first post and looking forward to more!

  31. Okay, I like you already :)

Very VERY well said. I live in Nashville and work on Music Row. You my dear just summed up a bunch of people here, too!

If only the dreamers had half the drive of the doers...sigh.

Welcome aboard and look forward to reading you again. Very soon, I hope.

  32. i know you probly can't tell us yet, as it would give you away too soon, But I'm curious where in the midwest you lived. I live in the midwest as well and will be LA-ish bound in about a year or so, it will be interesting hearing your views on the area!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Question:

Is Jessica Alba your bestest friend because you two seem really close?

LOL! I would say welcome, but Ent says you've been around for awhile...so wassup?

    ReplyDelete
  34. If it's indeed JJ Abrams, what about Amy-Jo Johnson? She used to be on Felicity with Jennifer Garner btw.

Keri Russel is from California and so is Amanda Foreman. Evangeline Lilly is from Canada, so the all can't be our mystery blogger...

Aly landry doesn't list anything else than actress on imdb, neither do Amy Smart nor Sarah Jane Morris.

Anyway, it's nice to have another cool person blog for us. :-D

  35. Ok Looks like no one guessed this yet.....Younger hotter version of Amy Poehler? My money is on Anna Faris....

(and no its not because she mentioned Entourage)
