Tom And Katie Done?

I want you to read these excerpts from an interview which will be broadcast on Entertainment Tonight tomorrow. I know things sometimes appear differently when read rather than spoken, but to me this seems very formal and not very "I am in love with her."

Tom Cruise said of his marriage to Katie Holmes: "I feel lucky. I have a lot of respect for her as an artist, as a woman."

Now it is entirely possible he said this with passion, but to me it seems like he read some lines that he memorized.

He added: "She's a very strong, gracious woman. She's very funny, a great comedian."

He could be talking about anyone here. He probably has made the same remarks about all of his female co-stars. I think it is becoming clear that she is the co-star in all of this.

Married life, he continued, is "all very good, all very lovely."

Next time one of your friends asks how your marriage is doing, why don't you answer with these exact six words and see what their reaction is. It will probably be something along the lines of , "are you sure?" They will know you are not telling them the whole story. Who the hell says that? It's like he is talking about raising a dog or his new house. It is completely generic. The whole damn interview is generic.

He referred to Holmes as "Kate" throughout the interview.

As for raising daughter Suri, 18 months, he said he and Holmes share parenting duties "just like everybody else, you just work it out. You make it work. We've gotten pretty good at organizing everything." Laughing, he added, "I don't sleep much anyway."

They share parenting duties with a staff, but the interesting thing to me is the last part about not sleeping much. John Travolta in a recent interview said that he stays up alone all night and that sleep isn't important. Is this some tenet to Scientology that husbands stay up all night and look at porn or something while their wife and kids sleep?

The interview was held in Paris, and Cruise said the city "has great significance to me in this time period of my life. It's the city where I proposed to Kate."

He makes it seem like there will be a different period of his life where the city will not have great significance to him.

I just find this whole interview very strange and formal like he is trying to distance himself from Katie and setting the whole thing up for him to say bye bye.

  2. @ Jax: GOLD STAR! My Diet coke is all over my desk now...thanks.
I don't know what Katie has to lose by leaving Tom, but isn't it interesting that ENT posted this this day after Tom and katie were a popular guess for yesterday's paternity BI?

It sounds just like Katie Holmes's interview that Posh did for Harper's Bazaar. Wooden. Scripted. Creepy. And nothing said says anything.

  4. jax, Do they offer that as on option now?

  5. Sad actually if it's true. Now he'll have to find some other woman with a hunger for fortune and fame (regardless) AND a penchant for pain and suffering and no brain of her own whose life will be ruined beyond comprehention to pose as his beard... Isn't Paris still single???

I thought yesterdays BI was determined to be Nicole Ritchie?

  6. Stellar Jax!

You know the marriage will last less than ten years because that is the point where (if one is divorcing in California) Katie could extract some big money from Tom. He might be laying the groundwork now and is already counting down the days until their contract expires.

He doesn't say anything about her being his rock, his shelter from the storm, his friend when everyone else has shunned him, nothing about guiding lights or motivation. There are no illusions. This marriage has what it takes to go the distance, folks.

  11. I think the marriage will end soon as well. I think Tom got into it to boost his career, but instead he got the exact opposite effect.

"Kate"'s career has suffered because of it too, not that she had much of a career, but it's definitely worse now.

  12. Not sleeping is a tenet of Scietntology, it's a side effect of the tenets of Scientology. Especially at the upper OT levels where TC and JT are. It drives em cuckoo for cocoa puffs.

  13. I hope the irony in all this is that Kate's new movie is great and she is labeled a new comedian; this while Tom's career plunders into the abyss...

Isn't that about what happened with Wife #2? Her career started to take off?

One more wife and I'm gonna lose track...

Katie's contract is for 5 years, but doesn't she get some signing bonus for producing a child? Perhaps she's decided to take that $$ and run?

  18. always trying to hard to bring more significance to the shallow end of the pool questions they are asked by the celebrity interviews, that mixed with the Scientology robot response they are programmed into believing appropriate for us wogs.

  19. Oh no. They've gotten to Robert, haven't they?

  20. Given his history, I think he now watches very carefully what he says, which makes for boring interviews.

I gotta side with Judi on this one. He just sounds careful and guarded. He might not be too crazy about who is interviewing him.

Maybe a bit of wishful thinking on your part, Ent?

Why is everyone so terrified to say that TOM CRUISE IS A COCKSUCKING FAGGOT?

Tom Cruise takes it up the ass.

    Tom CRUISE - get it?

  23. i'm really amazed to see that anyone, ever, thought this was real. this interview is predictable and boring. i don't care how or when they end things or who he recruits (signs) next. "has been" describes him, and "pathetic" her. she sold her soul and aged 20 years in the process.

Frankly, I'd do what Katie did. She is set for life. She never HAS to work again! People marry for all kinds of reasons. There are plenty of opportunistic women who settle for broke down old men with money. At least Tom is easy on the eyes and born in the same half century as his wife.
