We're Number 3!!!---In Afghanistan!?!?
Yes, it's true. Over the weekend I discovered that this blog is the 3rd most popular website in Afghanistan. All weekend long I kept trying to think of why anyone in Afghanistan would read this blog and this is what I think are some possible explanations.
1. The most likely explanation is there is only one computer in all of Afghanistan and the person who owns it can't figure out how to remove me from their homepage.
2. It could be that military personnel there are in love with my witty repartee. I know, I know. That's why I keep coming back to number 1.
3. The Kim Kardashian video is popular viewing in the caves.
4. Al Qaeda is using the comments section of the blog to communicate with each other. This would explain so many things don't you think? It's not really nastiness, it's just code.
Whatever the reason, I would like to know who from Afghanistan is reading the blog because I'm really curious. So, if you are in Afghanistan, send me an e-mail and let me know why you are reading the blog and who you are. If you're in the military, thanks for all you do and let me know if you want ZX to come visit. I'm too old and heavy, but she loves an adventure and am sure she would love to.
That cracks me up!!
ReplyDeleteOh my!
I guess that means the Pentagon is watching us... If so, I wish they would post, they HAVE to know the answer to some of these blinds.
ReplyDeleteEL, How did you find out your were the #3 blog in Afghanistan? Maybe a lot of military folk like to read it. Just a thought
ReplyDeleteThat's really hilarious, Ent. Congrats on being number 3 at least somewhere!
ReplyDeleteActually, an associate of mine went there to do some technology sales and turns out their society is quite technologically advanced, especially Kabul. Perhaps their people really love the site, but my guess is its the military, as the Afghan people are pretty devout and probably don't peruse a lot of celebrity gossip blogs....or do they????
yay for enty! *applause applause*
ReplyDeletelooks like the afghans have good taste. ;)
Very funny post Ent. My guess is No. 2, the military personnel. But No.4 is much more intriguing and would explain the sometimes confusing quarrels... anonmynous arguing with anonmynous and then anonmynous butts in and then anonmynous pops on later to add his/her two pennyworth.
ReplyDeleteI don't think military computers would register as coming from Afghanistan but rather as a DoD system. Anyway, I read gossip sites alot during my down time when I was deployed with the military a couple years ago.
ReplyDeleteYou'd be surprised how much people in places like Afghanistan know about Hollywood gossip/celebrities. They see the same movies we do and have favorite stars. They can get our latest movies/CDs by bootleg copies. I'd go off post and have some good conversations with locals who were big movie or music fans. Everybody like movies and music - the gossip just follows when people want to find out more about their favority star or singer. It's just like a real-life soap opera.
It would be interesting to learn what #1 and #2 were, just for s's and g's
ReplyDeleteI've heard Afghanis are irrepresible gossips!
ReplyDeleteuh oh....LABOUTIN!
ReplyDeleteirrepresible = irrespressible

ReplyDeleteGAC
Really? Congrats EL!
ReplyDeletesince my best friend just got home from iraq, their email addys are (for instance) "NAME.NAME@cemnf-iraq.usmc.mil". ALTHOUGH, the info could have come from a miltary newsletter, weather report, or news correspondant, because ent could track back on the IPL.
ReplyDeletei DO love the al queda idea, though. i think they could be trying to find those 72 virgins.
congrats, ent!
