Blind Item #4
This long dead permanent A+ lister who was in one, if not, the greatest band of all times used to travel to a country just to have sex with tween and teen girls. He said it brought him to a new state of mind. Apparently there are several children of his he never met from those rapes that are still living in that country and are about to sue his estate.
John Lennon
ReplyDeleteBut I sure hope not
DeleteIts gotta be bob marley...hes got a million kids and his estate is worth a ton
DeleteJim Morrison?
ReplyDeleteThe Lennon guess is a good one.
ReplyDeleteSo is yours! It could be Jim and France(had a flat in Paris where he died so maybe?)
DeleteAlthough I am not sure if the Doors is one of the greatest bands of all time, lol. I think Tricia has it with Lennon.
ReplyDeleteCould be George Harrison, and trips to India.
ReplyDeleteThis is why we can't have nice things anymore! Never meet your idiols! Etc!
@Do Tell, actually I think "idiol" is brilliant.
DeletePossibly George Harrison or Garcia.
ReplyDeleteGarcia seems a likely culprit
Where would Jerry go spider?
Delete*idols
ReplyDeleteMore likely to be Harrison than Lennon. Lennon's been gone for 38 years now.
ReplyDeleteUgh, so much for the peace and love, does money and fame just flip a switch in some people?
ReplyDeleteDon't dare be George Harrison. But the spiritual part stands out to me. Not Lennon, when with Yoko she was attached to him. With May Pang, couldn't leave the country because they wouldn't let him back in,she also was always with him.
ReplyDelete"New state of mind" doesn't necessarily mean 'spiritual', at least that's not how I read it. I was thinking more in the lines of Regina George's mom saying sticking around the plastics going, "ugh you girls keep me so young."
DeleteLike a mid-life crisis thing where they try to feel youthful rather than a state of nirvana.
Not Morrison he barely could get it up and sex seemed to be an afterthought for him. Lennon seems unlikely as well.
ReplyDeleteGuesser has a good point about Lennon's visa/green card problems in the early 70's.
ReplyDeleteOh George, we hardly knew ye.
I’m thinking John Bonham. If Lennon had kids in India we’d know about it by now. Julian would have spoken about it.
ReplyDeleteFirst person I thought of too
DeleteI also thought Bonzo.
DeleteAgree
DeleteGeorge and India for sure. Yoko controlled John and he kind of hated kids.
ReplyDeleteGeorge Harrison, hate to say it. He screwed around on Pattie for years.
ReplyDeleteAnd Pattie screwed around on him - well within his cricle of friends.
DeleteI think this is Bonham.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIt could also be Ginger Baker in Africa
ReplyDeleteNot John Bonham, he absolutely hated leaving home. That was the main reason he drank so hard on tour.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few ways to read these. He did come to America. And didn’t he see underage girls along with the rest of the band? Maybe I’m wrong.
DeleteCount will have to give us the age of consent for India and Bangladesh, I'm not looking it up. Enty says rape,it is in US,maybe not there. Also, the children would be coming of age now if Harrison, Lennon has been gone so long it would have come up earlier.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t think it was possible to be disappointed anymore. But if this is George Harrison I will be crushed. But he was always the one who was truly into Indian culture. Lennon just tried it on for size. And he was heavily involved with charity work in Bangladesh.
ReplyDeleteA lot of the stuff I liked about him (that he was more genuine and sincere tin his beliefs than Lennon, that he was active in charities through out the world) seem to be damninh him here. :( :(
I'm going with Brian Jones. Founder of the Rolling Stones, whole bunch of known out-of-wedlock children, lots of trips to Morocco, documented on the 'Brian Jones Presents the Pipes of Pan at Joujouka' LP.
ReplyDeleteBrian definitely liked them young.
DeleteGinger Baker is still alive!
ReplyDeleteReally?!?! Shit. Amazing drummer not so great a person
DeleteI don't want this to be Harrison. So here you go.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't say "foreign."
Could it be John Phillips?
Ginger Baker is still alive. What would the definition of "long dead" equal? (Harrison died in 2001). The phrase "brought him to a new state of mind" seems like a clue since the rest is fairly factual. Def put's Harrison in the mix on this one.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone would call the Mamas and The Papas one of the greatest bands of all time. As much as I like them. Can't be Phillips.
ReplyDelete17 years sounds like a good timeframe for "long dead." I can't believe it would be someone who died in 1969 like Brian Jones or even 1980 like Lennon--the "kids" would be adults for a long long time and would have sued already. Even 17 years is kinda pushing it but there aren't many other candidates.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone from Color Me Badd dead?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteElvis
ReplyDeleteBrian Jones
ReplyDeleteWhat bands are on the short list of "Greatest of All Time"? In order, I would suggest:
ReplyDeleteBeatles
Stones
Led Zep
Who
What constitutes "long-dead"? Ten years? Twenty? More? Lennon died nearly 40 years ago, so his youngest illegitimate kid would be 37-ish, and that's if Yoko let him out of her sight, which she almost surely didn't. George Harrison, on the other hand, died around 2001? His youngest would be 17.
Brian Jones died in 1967(-ish?), so his youngest kid would be nearing 50(isn). And what kind of estate does he have, anyway? He didn't have a ton of songwriting credits.
John Bonham and Keith Moon both died in the late 70s/early 80s. Their youngest kids would be in their thirties. Also unlikely.
Narrowing it all down, Harrison is the most likely tween rapist, which sucks because he also seemed the most well-adapted post-Beatle. But I'd bet it's him.
I don't know the age of consent in Bangladesh, but I know that the legal age for marrying girls is ZERO years old.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm sure this has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Islam.
I'VE GOT IT
ReplyDeleteRob from Milli Vanilli.
Freddy Mercury. :p
ReplyDeleteI JEST!
not a clue.
I love the Color Me Badd/Milli Vanilli guesses
ReplyDeleteI’ll throw in Kajagoogoo😂
Going with Harrison. Lennon liked California girls. That's where he spent a sizable portion of the 70s, and that was what/who he was doing, according to Yoko.
ReplyDeleteJimi Hendrix? Mostly thought of as solo but the Jimi Hendrix Experience was actually a band. He spent quite a bit of time in London.
ReplyDeleteIn googling George Harrison, this atrocious story came up. Outrageous conduct by a medical professional towards a dying patient.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.today.com/popculture/doctor-sued-harrison-quits-job-wbna3892716
Ginger Baker is miraculously still with us.
ReplyDeleteToo mean to die yet. Love him nonetheless!
Glenn Fry?
ReplyDeleteSomeone might say it's impossible because he has such an innocuous and spiritual way about him but... I say George Harrison. Never bought his angle.
ReplyDeleteI survived the James Taylor take-down, but George Harrison? No.
ReplyDeleteThe real Paul McCartney
ReplyDeleteGreatest band, can be that many. Screams The beatles
ReplyDeleteI find it extremely difficult to believe that Paul would ever have cheated on Linda. They were together constantly.
ReplyDeleteHarrison's my bet. Lennon was rumored 2 like NY bathhouse boys---especially Vietnamese. Probably liked yoko & his asian asst for their boyish shape. Lennon lived 4 heroin..the 60s enlightmemt part was bullshit. He & yoko loved the finer things in life, were greedy and narcissistic. I would see them on ritzy Worth Avenue in Palm Beach while growing up. Sham of a man.
ReplyDeleteYep rumour has it John liked boys and Yoko was very 'boyish' looking. Looks like a little man now. Never an oil painting.
DeleteBrian Jones seems the most likely culprit.
ReplyDeleteI'm fairly certain Paul is still alive, which means not him. As for his wives, I counter your Linda with a Heather Mills (not sure what that means but I'm trying to get the day off on my good foot)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be different and say Kurt Cobain.
ReplyDeleteWhat country?
DeleteAgree with the Brian Jones guesses.
ReplyDeletePlaying a Heather Mills against a Linda McCartney is like trying to win by playing a joker against an Ace.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what that means either, but it sounded good in my head.
In fairness to Lennon, he recognized early on that the 60s enlightenment was as much as scam as the culture it purported to run counter to. Smart man, utterly ruined by drugs and a nasty underlying personality. He was pretty much under Yoko's command even when he was doing May Pang (with her permission). Don't know about the bathhouse boys but if he did them it was with Yoko's encouragement. Maybe she got a charge out of it. May Pang and Yoko are not "boyish" in shape, though. Yoko is such a greedy fascist, like she's playing the role, the hypocrisy is brutal and overwhelming. Preaching peace and love and community of mankind while stabbing people in the back. Feh.
ReplyDelete@Amartel, very interesting comments on Lennon and Yoko.
DeleteI would note that, so far as we know, Lennon was doing May Pang with both her and Yoko's permission.
:)
Brian Jones? He liked Morocco.
ReplyDeleteGeorge Harrison
ReplyDeleteLol,Do Tell, but everyone hated Linda until she died. And when people say Paul McCartney, it's of course because real Paul is dead.
ReplyDelete+1 @Amartel re: Lennon's awareness. Hence the song "Sexy Sadie."
ReplyDeleteRick Wright Pink Floyd loved the Greek Isles eventually lived there permanently?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree that Linda was universally hated until she died. Once the idiot Beatle fangurls grew up, people started to recognize that she was very good for Paul. She also earned a lot of respect for her photography and the vegetarian food line and cookbooks she put out. Wish I could find her frozen meals in NY. They are good.
ReplyDeletePaternity cases have gotten so much more straightforward since DNA testing has been refined. It used to be you'd have to prove that the two parties were in the same place at the same time, had a chance to be alone together, had blood types that matched the child, etc. Now a positive DNA test is considered incontrovertible evidence.
ReplyDeleteThe question, of course, is where they might get a sample of Harrison's DNA. I suppose his son, Dhani, could be forced to provide a DNA sample. Harrison also has living relatives in the UK.
Too bad all those locks of Beatle hair that fans used to collect can't be entered into evidence.
lol Doug. Let's call Merriam-Webster and ask them to add it!
ReplyDeleteGarcia didn't make regular trips to other countries. He was too busy smoking heroin in San Francisco or on the road in the US.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many people this could be. I doubt it's Morrison.
Brian Jones is a good guess. The man was a Grade A piece of shit. Talented, but a horrible, horrible person. He did go to Morocco quite a bit. I'm sure Anita Pallenberg would have known this.
ReplyDeleteThe Greatest Band thing is commonly used when referring to the Stones. I'm not sure who is in charge of his estate- is his sister still alive? He has 5 kids from 5 different women but I don't think any were even named in his will.
@Do Tell
ReplyDeleteI like it - idiols. Idiot Idols.
Ah! @Doug was already on it...
ReplyDelete@NE peanut gallery and @Do Tell: CDaN converts many idols into idiols, and eventually into plain idiots.
DeleteWhile in my head Skynyrd is the best band ever, I think it’s safe to say this is 100% NOT them....thank goodness lmao. And I love me some George so I’m desperately trying to make this NOT him and instead John but it’s not working so far. I can’t really think of any other band that’s considered the greatest of all time....damnit George!!!
ReplyDeleteI do like the Morrison and Hendrix guesses, though...
Mick Jagger
ReplyDeleteJimmy Page
David Bowie
Iggy Pop
All rockstars are statutory rapists/pedophiles. It would be naive to think The Beatles didn't do any of it
Harrison fits the best. Jones TOO long dead, IMO. Any illegitimate children, at best, are turning 49 this year, which seems like way past the 'sue his estate' stage (i.e. why would they wait this long?).
ReplyDelete@SkittleKitty: Harrison is also a good guess. How awful- he was my fav Beatle. I wonder if this will go to the press or Olivia will keep it under wraps?
ReplyDeleteI’m spitballing or making excuses here....the height of George’s trips to India and whatnot are 60’s-70s. He wasnt still running over there, that I can find, in the 80s. 80s would make the kids in their 30s...so if you use that as comparison to the other artists mentioned, his supposed children would be the same age as the others supposed children which is 40s-50s. Surely something would’ve been said by now. 17 years isn’t really LONG dead when you compare it to some of the others.
ReplyDeleteHere's my take, for what it's worth.
ReplyDeleteAs I read it, the blind means that the band in question might be the greatest of all time. It doesn't mean "one of the greatest but not the greatest".
And with the individual in question being a long-dead permanent A+ lister, it should not take long to narrow this down.
Let's leave the Beatles for last, as they would win any reasonable poll of the greatest band of all time, and they have two long-dead permanent A+ listers.
I would say that only two other bands "might" be the greatest of all time: the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin.
Is Brian Jones a permanent A+ lister? Really? Not in my view. An iconic image, but he didn't sing, and he wasn't their primary guitarist. We hardly even hear him on their records.
John Bonham as a permanent A+ lister is a stretch. For dummers he is, but by CDaN standards?
Let's look at some long-shot bands, just to be thorough:
The Who? Probably no long-dead permanent A+ listers. Keith Moon? That's a stretch.
Cream? No long-dead members.
Jimi Hendrix is a long-dead permanent A+ lister.
The Doors? Jim Morrison is a long-dead permanent A+ lister.
The Grateful Dead? Jerry Garcia is a long-dead permanent A+ lister.
Pink Floyd? No long-dead permanent A+ listers. Rick Wright is not a permanent A+ lister.
The Sex Pistols? Whatever you think, this isn't about Sid Vicious.
AC/DC? Bon Scott is not a permanent A+ lister.
Van Halen? No dead members.
U2? No dead members.
Nirvana? Kurt Cobain is a long-dead permanent A+ lister.
Is the blind about Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Jerry Garcia, or Kurt Cobain? I'm open to further analysis. Jerry Garcia would surprise me very much.
@Guesser makes good points against John Lennon as the answer. When was the last time in his life that he left the U.S.?
So we might well be left with George Harrison as the answer. State of mind, India, Bangladesh. And the timing might be about right. Some of the kids would be young adults now. And if they are in India or especially Bangladesh, the proceeds from successful lawsuits could be life-changing.
Maybe the lawsuits will tell us the story, whoever this is about.
George continued to travel to India into the 1990's.
ReplyDelete@Doug: It's not Garcia. He didn't regularly travel to other countries.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, Townshend had to beg him to tour Europe to bail out The Who in 1981 because Garcia knew he couldn't get heroin easily outside of the US.
Keith Moon also never really traveled outside of touring
Please dont fucking be George Harrison. Please. My heart cant take it.
ReplyDeleteLennon I feel like is more plausible. He and Ono did split for a while. Also, he has a track record of abandoning his offspring.
Gotta go with my gut and say Harrison.
ReplyDelete(As I gaze, teary eyed, at my Beatles calendar.)
George Harrison battled cancer more than once, with his last battle seeemingly lasting about a year, when it metastasized to his brain. He and Olivia traveled a lot during that last year trying last ditch experimental overseas treatment efforts to save him before his rapid decline began.
ReplyDeleteIf we are operating under the assumption that these children are currently underage, then Harrison might be able to be eliminated as he would have been undergoing cancer treatment in the company of his wife, and therefore "out of commission".
Is anyone from the Clapton-formed supergroup Blind Faith dead? Remember that album they released with that topless newly pubescent girl on it holding a trinket mildly shaped like a phallus? Disgusting. Wouldnt be shocked if anyone from this group ended up being ousted as having pedo tendencies. That album cover was fucked up. Still cant believe that was approved for release....smdh.
ReplyDelete@YummyBoogers, no, none of the permanent A+ list candidate members of Blind Faith are dead.
DeleteI'm not sure about Cobain- he's another one that didn't travel overseas
ReplyDeleteYes he did
DeleteIf this indeed is George Harrison and the progeny do intend to approach his estate....I'd suggest they have a word with Paul McCartney's people first.
ReplyDeleteMcCartney is rich beyond rich. I would imagine he'd be willing to settle a few lawsuits to make sure that the Beatles' brand name is not besmirched.
@Nutty_Flavor, that's a very good point. If this is Harrison and it's revealed, it won't be good for Paul, not to mention the possibility that Paul might help settle the lawsuits in part for sentimental reasons. I once watched a long interview with him shortly after George died. The reporter seems to have caught him getting out of a car as he arrived home. Paul was very patient with the interviewer and had a lot so say about George.
DeleteYou're a smart one. That would be a smoother and possibly more profitable path.
Delete+1 B
ReplyDeleteCobain, like Bonham, liked to stay home and do drugs rather than take vacations when he wasn't touring.
@plot Like Garcia.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIf Page was dead I would say it was him. His gf is 26 years old. He's a pig
ReplyDeleteJohn Lennon
ReplyDeleteJohn Entwistle
ReplyDeleteI,m going with Harrison. Back in Bangladesh they had two classes, blue cholera and white cholera.
ReplyDeleteWild guess...if the subject of this blind is George, then perhaps the source of this information is someone associated with the Beatles estate with insider info. Offspring of one of the other Beatles? Sean Lennon?
ReplyDeleteOr reverse it....if the subject is John, then perhaps the source is Dhani Harrison.
Hmmmmm.....
Assuming of course this blind is even the truth. If the alleged offspring are really planning on suing they better hope they are not already too late or better make it happen sooner than later. Can't believe it is Harrison and legally speaking there is probably no estate to go after even after "only" 17 years - who has an estate that is still in probate or being challenged? Once the estate is divied up you can't go after the beneficiaries of the estate who may have spent all the money already. I would think the statute of limitations to file a claim against any estate is more than expired unless MAYBE the estate is still in litigation.
ReplyDelete@Jen, don't you think there has probably been a trust set up, for tax reasons if nothing else? All those royalties from "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun" have to go somewhere, and it would seem to be very poor tax planning if they went directly to Olivia or Dhani.
ReplyDeleteBowie is the only one that probably has an estate still in probate but he is hardly long dead.
ReplyDeleteDeffo going for John Entwistle of the Who....no doubt. It's not George Harrison. Entwistle travelled a lot, died by cocaine and stripper, not exactly a morally upright kinda guy.
ReplyDelete@Yeah Entwistle is a good guess.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone considered Joe Strummer?
I don't want it to be Strummer, but just throwing a guess out there
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if there is connection between the source of this blind, and the "new friend who has been in and around music his entire life" who Enty references in Blind#14 from today (2/5/18). In that blind, Enty was "reminded" after talking to this "new friend" of a benefit concert story of his own to share as a blind item.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering what the conversation w/that new friend was about....anyone following? Possible dots connection? Or just a super slow day for me at work? Lol.
@Yummy
DeleteI love it when readers pay attention. Not sure if it means anything, but definitely a thread to pull on
I am not acquainted with British estate law or the possible country that these illegitimate children come from. Now if the wife knew about the children that could be a different situation. It is rare to re-open a estate that has been settled and closed but digging around I see that unknown heirs at the time of death and probate etc can try and challenge the estate settlement later if they can prove they had no notice of the death or did not realize who their father was but depends on the jurisdiction even different states of the US have different rules.
ReplyDeleteAssuming the greatest band member left a lot of money on his death, his family are going to have the money to either defend vs such a lawsuit or make it go away OR the illegitimate offspring better hope the money isn't all spent already.
Maybe they are only coming forward now because there’s about to be a big resurgence in the band’s music? If the dead band member wrote any of the songs or the estate still receives decent royalties from them and there’s about to be a huge upswing in plays, streams, air time or sales for whatever reason, then that may be why it’s happening now. Maybe with a movie or show? Or it’s tied to #metoo and #timesup.
ReplyDelete@B
ReplyDelete"Has anyone considered Joe Strummer?"
GASP! Shut ur whore mouth!
No seriously, how much touring did Strummer do with the Mescaleros? *sigh* I'll take a look...nope, it doesn't look like they toured at all, just played locally around LA. BUT Strummer did join a fair amount of concerts for charity, either with or without other members of The Clash.
Strummers estate was less than a million, so he really didn't monetize much which included touring it seems.
@Plot
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, I don't want it to be Joe at all. I love him, but I am exploring all possibilities. He did travel for personal reasons.
Again, I don't think it's him. He cheated on his baby mama a lot and the wife as well but I've never heard anything bad beyond that. It's just another person to consider but I think Harrison may be the winner here.
Elvis never went anywhere. Col. Tom may not have been exactly a legal resident, so the only countries he ever played in were the US and Canada, where Tom didn't need a passport.
ReplyDelete@B
ReplyDeleteI'm just joshing you. Funny how Harrison doesn't bother me, but Strummer? NEVAH!
@post I know!
ReplyDeleteStrummer or Garcia would destroy me. Harrison would be disappointing.
If it turns out to be Joe Strummer I may leave the country. I can even handle George Harrison before Joe Strummer. It made me depressed when I learned a couple years ago he was actually the son of a British Ambassador and not from some lower middle class background. To find out he was a tween raper would pretty much shatter my late teen year memories, when the Clash was truly "The only band that mattered."
ReplyDelete@Donna: I really fucking hope it wasn't him. I was a sophomore in college when he died and I cried my eyes out.
ReplyDeleteAs good as they were, The Clash are not generally mentioned in the Greatest Band Of All Time category when people talk about that. So, it isn't Joe Strummer.
ReplyDeleteThe documentary Beware of Mr. Baker was quite wonderful, showing an awesome drummer studying/playing for years in African villages. Still alive, Not him. Geo Harrison.
ReplyDelete@Dannette: That is such an excellent doc. Baker is insane and so talented. But yeah, I haven't ever heard anything about him being a pedo.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope this is revealed soon.
Please don't be George, please don't be George, please don't be George...
ReplyDeleteLMFAO @ "kajagoogoo"
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh that is so damn funny LOL!
It doesn't say foreign born, so do we assume it's an American?
ReplyDeleteIf not I wanna say Robert Plant.
I don't see Paul McCartney paying anyone off at this point. It's just way too long ago and I don't think he could give a rat's butt. And, anyways do any of them even own any masters, etc of The Beatles??? No, don't respond, it was a statement not a question. haha
Hendrix DOES have a large estimated estate, post death and HE slept with every woman who walked!! He has a dtr and son from a Swedish woman.
Keeping in mind Hendrix spent the majority of his career in London and traveled, but again, was the Jimi Hendrix Experience a band?
I was wanting to say this earlier but I couldn’t find a gentle way to say it. Then I saw someone else touched on it. The whole statute of limitations....let’s say it’s George. George had been dead 17 years, which isn’t forever but it’s long enough. So there you’ve got 17 years and let’s face it, in the last year or so of his life, the chances of him messing around with ANYONE is slim to none. He was being aggressively treated for cancer which was rapidly spreading. So then add another 2-3 years on 17 and we’re looking at 20. Then add in whatever years this would’ve happened. You’ll easily hit 30 years and that’s me adding conservatively and saying it was still going on in the 90s. Would you still have a case at 30 years? Can you legally go after anyone’s estate after a certain amount of time? And that’s asking for any of the names previously mentioned. Other than besmirching the name of whoever this person is, what would the victims gain if they couldn’t receive any money? I’m an idiot with anything legal so give me a little grace please, I guess.
ReplyDeleteAnd all George love aside, it COULD be him. But I’m also leaning toward Hendrix as well because he most definitely got around. Damn, you think this blind would be easier and I’m guessing it is. I’m just making it more difficult ha
@CourtD, these questions that you and others raise are good ones with regard to a court compelling payment out of an estate. But the public disclosure issue is still there. I'm not an expert, but the plaintiffs might be able to force the allegations onto the public record before losing the case, and that sets up a kind of blackmail situation.
Delete@Even if no one's sitting on it I still won't move it to vacuum:
ReplyDeleteThe band in question could be American or English. I can't think of band from any other country that might be the greatest ever and has any long-dead permanent A+ list members.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience was a band.
Robert Plant is not dead. He's not even stunned. (Parrot reference, fyi.)
Robert Plant is still alive.
ReplyDeleteOk then, lemme ask this....it’s not the girls, now women, filing the lawsuits but the offspring of the supposed union(s) between our band member here and the young girls, correct? Yes....these children ARE the products of rape. But if the mothers aren’t filing the lawsuits, then how can the children? Wouldn’t that be like filing a lawsuit on someone else’s behalf? Don’t crucify me here....I’m not excusing what happened AT ALL. Please do not think that. I’m just playing devils advocate I guess. If you’re the executor of someone’s estate then I believe you can file a lawsuit on their behalf....but essentially this would be a case of blackmail like Doug said. Short of taking a child’s DNA to compare it with the others, how would you discern who is who?
ReplyDeleteJimi Hendrix is known as himself .Hendrix. He is singular. He had a band but it was more like a backing band, like prince and the new power generation. Who went to the concert to see the new power generation? Answer: no one. But good job trying to pin it on the black man and stirring latent racism. Golf claps all round. The pedo tourism in certain Asian hotspots is 99% white guys from Europe and America. The underage sex trade in Africa is mostly white Italians from Italy, I'm sorry to report. So George Harrison maybe?
ReplyDeleteI could care less what race/nationality/religion/sex any of these guesses are. That matters not one bit to me. Jimi was widely known to sleep around and could possibly have lots of children out there he wasn’t aware of. Sorry bout it. Congrats on trying to stir the nonexistent pot here. It could be George or Jimi or Jim or who the hell ever.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThe Jimi Hendrix Experience was a band, but it's true that Hendrix is usually thought of as if he had been a solo act. The way the blind is written I think does not point to Hendrix, as it seems to emphasize both the individual and the greatness of the band. That would be a little obtuse if this were about Hendrix.
ReplyDelete@Court: Who the hell was making anything about race? FFS, STFU!
ReplyDeleteIt was well known he slept around; didn't hide it. How he, and million other men in this world don't have many mini me's running around would be astounding. Jesus, one black man is thrown in the mix and you turn into something that isn't. If I would've had the damn chance, I would've slept with him over everyone else mentioned above, but wrapped up! He even has a cast of his dick made. He was a star!!! Now take your miserable self away. Always has to be one in the crowd.
@Even [etc]: @CourtD was responding to @Halloweenie.
DeleteHi Don!!! Happy Monday!!
ReplyDeleteIs it me or has Boo Heame been MIA? So is Count...
@Even.....learn to read and follow along so you don’t look like a blithering idiot....there’s always one in every crowd! I don’t really feel the need to leave so I think I’ll stay right here. But you feel free to move your dramatic self on out if you feel the need.
ReplyDelete@kiki, The Wailers aren’t seen as the greatest band in history.
ReplyDeleteThat’s the Stones or the Beatles. Gotta be Brian or George.
Bob marley is reportedly the richest dead rockstar...Id take the wailers over the stones every day of the week...but not the beatles.
DeleteI would say the same about Marley as about Hendrix: it would be obtuse for the blind to refer to him and also to the importance of his band. This is not proof in either case, just an interpretation of the wording of the blind.
ReplyDeleteI’ll concede lol damnit it’s George. I really don’t see any way it couldn’t be with the clues presented...geez. Next thing I know, I’ll be finding out nightmarish stuff about Mr Rogers.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think the concise version of the analysis is that the band has to be possibly the greatest band ever ("if not, the greatest band of all times" [the comma should not be there]), and if it's not the Beatles, it probably has to be the Stones or Zeppelin, as there can hardly be a case that any other band is the greatest ever. So the individual is Lennon, Harrison, Jones, or Bonham. Probably has to be Harrison.
DeleteGeorge has never had the squeaky clean rep that Mr Rogers did. He treated his first wife like shit and cheated on Olivia too.
ReplyDeleteThe only way I could maybe see it being Lennon is if he had made a trip to that countries in the early days of the Beatles big success, like when he vacationed with Brian Epstein. Later, after he married Yoko and Nixon decided to go after them, John could not leave the country because he would not have been allowed back in. Julian visited him in New York during John's "house husband" days and said John was basically a couch potato who didn't like to go out much. I think Lennon should be ruled out.
ReplyDelete*country
ReplyDelete@Do tell: I don’t think it’s Lennon either
ReplyDelete@DDonna
ReplyDeleteIf it's any consolation about the father diploma thing, Strummer was sent to a boarding school at age 9 and never really saw his parents again much. If anything is going to send an upper middle class chap diving into the rigors and indignities of the lower classes, that would do it. At least Joe is nothing like Mick Jaggar, who is the biggest pretender of all, snotty, wrote condescending ugly lyrics a lot of the time, while pretending to understand the delta blues and the conditions of the lower class while actually mocking them. Strummer remained true to form, never owned a manse or a fleet of cars or a stable of young women. Maybe he twisted his anger at his parents, or his loveless childhood, into the anger of the working class but it worked, and I guess that's all that matters.
Case against this being Strummer - he left practically nothing behind, in celebrity terms, less than one million and so far we aren't hearing Clash songs in Jaguar commercials (are we? Not sure about the UK or overseas, but what a shame that would be.) So the Clash catalogue assets are only humming along on pure sales. So what is to go after for the kids? Nothing there.
Hendrix was all Hendrix.
Marley might work though he seems a little singular as well. The Wailers weren't the draw, he was.
Thinking a little broader - what about the Beach Boys? Are they just pop? Even the Beatles thought otherwise. Derek and the Dominos? ACDC? Radiohead (nobody dead there yet I guess.) The Ramones? Rush?
Just thinking out loud...
Beware of Mr. Baker is simply awesome! It made me love Ginger, though I can't say why. He's generally kinda awful.
@plot, mentioning the Beach Boys is actually (in my view) very reasonable. I tend to forget about them. I don't think they were the greatest band ever, but in the context of rock and pop I would call them great. Neither of the two dead Wilson brothers is permanent A+ list, though, I don't think.
DeleteI immediately thought of Georgia Harrison.
ReplyDelete@B, Dennis is not a permanent A+ lister. Brian is the only Beach Boy who is. In my opinion, of course.
ReplyDelete@doug ok so back to George
ReplyDeleteJust about every minute of the Beatles' lives in the 1960's and 1970's are accounted for. Book after book have been written about them as a group and as individuals. Anyone who had any brush with them wrote a book. There is no way John or George could have been involved in this without it previously coming out.
ReplyDelete@lutefisk, I would not think that Harrison was doing this while the Beatles were together, and he was pretty busy during 1970 and 1971 with All Things Must Pass and the Concert for Bangladesh. As the 1970s wore on, I suspect that he was somewhat less closely monitored. After 1976, the pace of his album releases slowed down. In my view the quality of his music declined steadily after the early 1970s, and it seems that critics and many of his fans agreed. If he is the subject of this blind, his sex tourism might have happened starting in the late 1970s or later.

ReplyDelete@Doug, All Things Must Pass was mainly songs George wrote while with The Beatles and they had been rejected. He had a huge catalog of music to record once they went their separate ways. "Imagine" was also in the reject pile, as was "Just Another Day." George was too involved with drugs in the 70's to have any real creativity, and never matched his first album. Don't get me wrong, I love George but he could never match his earlier releases. 'George Harrison: Behind the Locked Door' by Graeme Thomson. Very interesting book.
ReplyDelete@lutefisk, thanks for the info. Have you read "Here, There, and Everywhere" by Geoff Emerick, one of the Beatles' main engineers? Fascinating.
DeleteThere's only 3 bands that are GOAT material and Led Zeppellin and Queen don't fit. This is a Beatle. I don't think we can pick which one from the blind though.
ReplyDelete@Urthor, spare me Queen.
DeleteI would also think a Beatle would have the highest rating, certainly higher than A+. They would be at the very least permanent A++.
ReplyDeleteMcCartney is very sentimental about Harrison - he was one of the last people to see Harrison alive, having made a special trip. I think he feels some residual guilt about the way he took command of the Beatles in the late 1960s when Lennon's drug problems caused him to abdicate as the leader of the band. McCartney was hyper-organized and domineering, as is visible in the film "Let it Be."
ReplyDeleteI don't think "every minute" of the Beatles' lives in the 1960s has been published. All four had vigorous sex lives, and there have been references made to unusual encounters with women or groups of women. Whether all of those encounters would stand up to contemporary scrutiny is unknown.
@violet: Yeah he was a really horrible person. Even keith admits it freely.
ReplyDeleteDid not say foreign.
ReplyDeleteAlso like some people's answers what people define as "greatest" bands could differ among eras
1960's Beatles/Stones
1970's Zeppelin/Who/Eagles
1980's Guns N Roses/Prince/AcDC/U2?Metallica
1990's Nirvana
2000
I think the answer lies between the band that were thought to be both greateast per their era and all time lists that have dead members that would be considered A List
Beatles/Stones/Zeppelin/Eagles/Nirvana
And the blind did leave out "foreign born" which could have been an oversight, but if it is domestic I only see 2 in that greatest that are domestic
Either way I hope the blind is not true
@Nutty_Flavor. If you read enough books you will definitely see their sex lives in them. Everything from them returning to their beds in Hamburg everynight to find strange women not caring which Beatle they slept with, John's group of friends that would all masturbate together when they were teens, the high-priced escorts Brian supplied them with when they were stuck in hotel rooms, Paul's threesomes, George having an affair with Maureen Starkey and receiving public blow jobs while playing the ukelele, John's numerous affairs while married to Cynthia, etc. Everything is very well documented.
ReplyDelete@Doug, I did indeed. I have been collecting/reading anything to do with The Beatles my entire life. The material is fascinating and I always learn something new.
I think this id Brian Jones. He had quite a few issues and numerous children with numerous women.
Greatest band of all time?: Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
ReplyDeletePermanent long deceased A+ lister: Marlon Brando.
[Included on the album cover]
Foreign country: Brando's private island Teti'aroa in French Polynesia.
Brando died in 2004 leaving an estate of $21.6 million.

ReplyDeleteI had read George Harrison made frequent trips to Bangladesh to have sex with young teenage girls there. Puts a twisted spin on his "Concert for Bangladesh" charity.
