There are a lot of a-holes to choose from when you are looking at actors in Old Hollywood. This particular actor was probably at or near the top when it comes to truly awful human beings. It didn’t stop him from winning an Academy Award and being nominated for several others. I am utterly shocked his Academy Award nominated wife never was killed during one of his beat downs. It definitely was not for a lack of trying.
Whenever he drank he would beat her. Considering he drank several times each week, this was often a problem when she was filming. If they went out at night and anyone mentioned her previous husbands or boyfriends she would try and make an excuse to not go home because she knew she was going to get beaten.
An ax of the actress threatened the actor’s life if he continued to beat the actress but the threat only lasted a few months and then he went back to beating the actress. Our actor would fly all over the world to see his wife just to beat her and make sure she was not cheating on him. There was the time he broke her arm and collarbone and tried to remove her hair with his bare hands. She stayed with him.
The beatings continued until one day our actor almost killed them both. She left and filed for divorce. He then proceeded to spend the next year following her all over the world. He would break in to her hotel rooms or homes and beat her until he passed out. At one point she had her ex hire some men to beat the actor and they did so until the actor almost died. Apparently that finally got the message through and the pair never saw each other again.

Frank's direct threat would have stopped me cold--he should have followed through on it.
Good for Frank. He should have done that sooner.
Also knew George was a drunk; didn't know he beat his wives.
Unless I've read it wrong, Ava Gardener was never married to George C Scott.

2/ it is known that Scott was often violent with her during their affair at The Bible's filming .

Yeah she wasn't his wife but the beatings were public knowledge. They're even mentioned in his official biography.
Ava was the girlfriend of Scott for a time, but never his wife.
He was married to Colleen Dewhurst and Trish Van de Vere.
He was a wife/girlfriend beater of major proportions--scumbag.
Scott was never married to Gardner. Sinatra obviously was, but I don't think they ever broke ties. He supported her financially long after their divorce.
This is all jumbled up, the Academy nominated wife had to be Colleen Dewhurst. George C Scott was known to be a raging alcoholic.

Glad he finally got his comeuppance. I cant imagine being beaten on the reg like that!
George C. Scott and Ava Gardner were never married. Frank and Ava were, and had plenty of knock-down drag out fist fights - both parties attested to it. Scott was certainly a nasty, violent drunk, and Ava claimed that Scott beat her up while drunk, and Frank never really got over Ava.
well bust my buttons. I wasn't sure if I was right about this one, but I think Enty threw in the marriage bit to throw us off the trail. It can't be anyone but these people and I even googled it to double check at the time lol

He was married to Colleen Dewhurst a couple times. They apparently both were alcoholics. This blind makes me think when he got violent, she hit him back.
But that performance in 'dr. Stranglelove'. Let alone Patton.
If Ava allowed this to happen more than one time, then I don't feel sorry for her. She choose to stay with him.
