Mr. X Blind Items - Cannes Part Three

7) What former A-list tweener who will be headed to B-list by the end of year was spotted bringing back much older hookers to his hotel room?
8) What recent Oscar winning actress was seen shielding her face as she exited a bar on the Riviera that's a known lesbian hangout?
9) What A-list actor who premiered his directorial debut at Cannes was overheard complaining to his PR team on the phone about the crappy job the editors did to his film?
10) Which '90s sex symbol was seen wandering around the red carpet hours before it was even open to the press and celebs? talk about crazy...

9 is Gosling - his new movie received really shitty reviews, and since he's a Winding Refn muse and devotee, the stylistic values of a film are probably very important to him.

Only recent Oscar winners in Cannes (I can think of) are:

7) Justin Bieber fondled Heidi Klum's title in Cannes:

Rumor has it he likes older white women and (by some accounts) young black guys.

Going in and out of a Lesbian Bar does not make a person a lesbian. If it did, then I'd be a Lesbian too. Doesn't mean a thing.

Oops, that's tit, not title.

just to be different: #10 Pamela Anderson

10 Stone. But really Mr X if that's the most crazy thing you can think of then you've got a bit of living to do. And I say that living in suburban boredomville.

9) Gosling of course, but what kind of director gives complete control of the final product to the editors? Why wasn't he involved in the process? Lame excuse.

7. Bieber
8. Jennifer Lawrence
9. Definitely Gosling
10. Pamela Anderson

@tara17, a lot of newbie directors do not get final cut of their film...only the biggies do (see the Snowpiercer drama). I could definitely see Gosling having to take a back seat to an editor. But to be fair, you have to give the editor something to work with and it sounds like from the reaction at Cannes, the film is not that good anyway.

Editing is an art. And an editor is only as good as the direction of the director. He may have been over his head and someone had to step in to try to save it. Who knows. The editing can make or break you.

Mr. X Blind Items - Cannes Part Four

11) Which gossip blogger has been more and more desperate for readership for the past few years? The pseudonymous "writer" has decided to pick quantity over quality, and as a result their site is now becoming as relevant as Perez Hilton's?
12) Which occasional provider of tips to 11) has been posting so-so blind items about Cannes, where he obviously isn't spending time? The items seem to come from third-hand sources and are needlessly generic.
13) Which A-list reality star is fed up with bearding for her significant other, but is happy that their incoming marriage will boost her celebrity and her social profile?
14) Which B-list Naya Riviera from a Glee on its last legs has been a nightmare on set due to her rivalry with her A-list co-Lea Michelle? The hatred between these two is so strong that one of the producers who's straight may decide to cut the B-list character from the show next season.
15) What's the latest about George Clooney? Seriously, I need to know so I can make a blind item about it.

@Angela. I love you guys so much today.

Mr. X Blind Items - Cannes Part Five
16) Which married A-list couple hasn't been seen in Cannes this year, echoing rumors that they're soon to announce their separation, or at least that they're not interested in Cannes? NB: Not the Obamas.
17) Which former A-list tweener tried to hit on a woman in a club and was turned down, because she didn't find him attractive or interesting? Ouch!
18) Which B-list mostly TV actress was spotted doing coke during a party?
19) Which A-list celebrity was spotted at the same party being drunk and started to talk quite unintelligibly?

Now that you mention it, Miss Piggy has always kind of pinged my 'dar

Lupita. Read a BI about her a week or two after she won about her team looking for a faux romance for her.

Diddy and usher turned him out.

tara17 said...

Thanks @Nancy, I had no idea directors don't necessarily have control/approval of editing. It's so important! I agree with @Writergirl that editors can only do so much with the given material.

8) Jessica Chastain

Sadie said...

Jessica Chastain has not won an Oscar. Sandra Bullock is in New Orleans, not Cannes.

Cate Blanchett. This goes a long way to explaining the extremely unattractive husband.

Re: Editing, best example is Jaws, which would have been nothing without Verna Fields, and is still cited an the example of what editing can do for a film.

he he funny post and so true!
I'm in Cannes at the moment and could post better blinds than the ones I read. But I won't ;-)

Murielle! SPILL! SPILL! SPILL!

The rule is the editors cut first, then the director gets his own cut. a good director can articulate to their editor tho...and direct them. A bad director blames their failures onto others.

Angela said...

Murielle, tu peux toujours poster tes ragots ou tes suggestions en français. Il y a quelques personnes qui seraient bien heureuses d'avoir droit à des infos portant sur autre chose que l'équivalent américain de Loana, Zahia ou Nabila...

See Scorcese and Thelma Schoonmaker for reinforcement of this.

Sprink said...

@Angela, I share your distaste for Mr X but haven't been around long enough to share your disappointment with Enty.

Hang in there...

Angela said...

@Sprink
The thing is that Enty posted once or two blind items a day since he had started, except on Fridays (hence the "Four for Friday" moniker) and for special events (Cannes, Dancing with the Stars, various awards).
The blinds were also much more longer and documented.

Starting in September 2012, the site increased the number of blind items, and people also noticed that the apparent answers to the blind items were often the subject of an article on the Daily Mail website a few hours before. Which suggests that either Enty is in touch with people from the DM (checking their articles, so they can't get sued for what they write) and getting some extra info about stars in the process, or just that he would take "inspiration" from reading the site.
Anyway, most of the blinds also became shorter, more vague, and frankly less interesting, apart from the occasional bomb dropped. It's as if, after trying to raise traffic with failed articles that weren't blind items, the person responsible had suddenly decided to give people what they wanted in the first place, and release generic and boring blind items.

Then, the number has kept on increasing. In September 2012, it was four or five a day. A year later, we had reached ten. And now, we get ten, plus the extra BIs by Mr. X.
The problem is that, unless Enty suddenly got access to great connections (which is obviously not the case), it's window-dressing at best, forgeries at worst. Instead of having a regular size BI about Justin Bieber, Lindsay Lohan or Johnny Depp, it now gets cut in eight or twelve tiny pieces, which makes them repetitive and dull instead of juicy or riveting.
Then, you can write easily another blind item about Lindsay Lohan being hungover while she was supposed to meet some Saoudi billionaire. It's easy to believe even if you don't have a single tip about it. It's still a blind item you can bring to the list.
Or you can just rely on somebody who heard from somebody else that someone told him that... The long series of blind items about Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, people who mostly live and work in New York or in the UK, is a great example. Enty will publish something about them one week, then the other week, it was actually the opposite (he's a hound dog, then she's the one cheating and he's clueless about it). It may be even worse than making a blind item out of thin air, it just shows that the guy just doesn't care for the content, just for the number of articles that get published a day. If the guy still writes them anyway. My guess is that the original blogger is still involved but that temps or assistants are now in charge of most of the content, given the number of typos and the disappearance of many Enty idiosyncrasies.

Why complain? So just don't read the site for a while. Not every day is a good day for gossip and/or blind items. No need to complain.
