She was AWESOME! RIP to her.
What a wonderful example of a child star who went on to give to the world in other ways as well. RIP Shirley Temple Black.
I thought she was already dead. My bad. RIP.
She was one of those people who looked nothing like what she did as a child.
She was fantastic…did you know that when she came of age she and into her earnings she found out her parents had spent almost all of it ?
One more child star taken advantage of…she wrote about in her bio…
Go forth on "The Good Ship, Lollipop". My fondest memories are of spending Sunday afternoons with my Mom watching Shirley Temple. RIP.
@MISCH - I wasn't aware of that. Gosh, another case ... it happens all too often.
I'm sure I read somewhere that she was doing some work with the United Nations in her old age.
Rest in peace, beautiful lady ...
I adored Shirley Temple when I was a kid, watched "The Little Princess" over and over, and always ordered a Shirley Temple when we went out to eat. RIP Shirley Temple Black!
RIP Shirley, you were a doll!
RIP Shirley.
Rest in peace, Shirley. She seemed like one of the good ones. <3
Eh? I respectfully disagree.
This makes me sad. For some reason I never imagine her as "grown" and remained forever young.
RIP What a life! Sounds like she was well loved in life as well as on film.
Sad face.
Love her. One of a kind
All those movies would be illegal now anyways
@Katie. Um, why would they be illegal???
RIP.
She went from an actress (basically nothing important except for gossip or entertainment) to ambassador and UN helper which made many people lifes better.
Rest in Peace :(
I didn't even know she was sick
@Rowdy, she wasn't sick. She died of natural causes at age 85.
Love her movies. So many childhood memories watching her movies with my grandma. My mom bought them all hoping to have the same special moments with my daughters as I had with her mom. RIP Shirley Temple Black. :'(
I remember watching her movies on tv every Saturday when I was a kid.
She lived a good life and will be missed.
What a wonderful life she lived. A treasure for anyone that grew up watching her.
I loved Shirley Temple. I would watch her every Sunday afternoon when they would show her movies way back when. I liked her, too, when she was a teenage actress. She was really talented.
My condolences to her family, friends and fans. In truth I was surprised that she was "only" 85. Her movies seem so long ago, not just in time but in sensibility, and it's easy to forget how really young she was while making them.
RIP Ms. Black -
Thank you for your body of work, both in film and with the UN.
You will always be loved.
Didn't know she lived in Woodside. RIP classy lady.
I remembering reading an article about why she was so appealing in movies is that her innocence and they way she was dressed was to tantalize men sexually. That Shirley Temple was a 'sexy little girl'.
I thought that was rather gross but looking at her movies you can kind of see the point and eww.
A long, rich, good life. This woman is what should happen to child stars.
Jesus, this year's Oscar Death Reel is jam-packed with big names :(
You are right about that GPS!! Dang.
I was really sad when I heard. RIP Shirley Temple with the cute dimples. You will be missed.
She was the cutest thing and her child mivies still hold up. Rest in peace
@Seven, Sorry, that line comes from a wrestling website called Wrestlecrap (they chronicle the worst of wrestling, it's really hilarious if you are a fan of wrestling or just stupid shit). They used to do a show weekly and when a wrestler or anyone famous died of old age, the host RD, would say "I didn't even know they were sick".
Basically it's just a way to say that their passing is sad but it's good that it wasn't from anything like illness or an accident.
This is sad news to wake up to. We've almost lost all the great ones from Old Hollywood. I remember watching the Shirley Temple matinees when I was a kid. She was so frickin' adorable! She spread a lot of joy during really dark times in this country. RIP, curly top.
May she RIP. She brought so much joy to so many people with her acting. My grandma loved her so much she kept the special Shirley Temple cup she ordered as a little girl in her china hutch until the day she died.
