Roy Garber Has Died

One of the few memorable faces and characters in a show which is not that memorable was Roy Garber. A single father who raised his son alone for 18 years, Roy starred on Shipping Wars on A&E for its entire five season run. He died of a heart attack. He was 49.

Never seen the show and no idea who this man is - but that's sad anyway. 49 too young. Mind, I thought he was way older than that looking at that picture.

Oh man! I only saw it a few times but he had a strong presence. That is too sad about his son, good for him for leaving a good legacy. Wow.

Never watched the show, sads for the family. I am stunned that BBC journalist Komla Dumor died at 41. Those are early ages for cardiac arrests.

Sad indeed...my hubs watches the show and this cat was pretty cool. Prayers to his family, I just lost a dear friend of 18yrs to a stroke and she was 53

I'm so sorry for your loss. That is just too young to go.

Was the cat part of the show? He's a little cutie.

RIP, Mr Garber, and @umop, I'm sorry to hear that. :(

When I was eighteen, 49 seemed ancient. It doesn't sound quite so old now.

In my line of work I see this every day. And they're only getting younger. You don't have to be 80 and eat junk and smoke 2 packs a day anymore. Last patient I had was 38....with no history. So sorry for this mans family, more specifically his son. How sad.

He came across as a real dick, but rest in peace.

Aw, my husband liked that show.

They nicknamed him Silver Haired Jesus on the show. He traveled everywhere with his cat, Muffy. He was also a smoker and had heart problems. We love the show and we will miss him.

I. Adored. Him. He was my favorite character on any show on any network, right next to Tia Torres on Pitbulls and Parolees. Roy Garber, his ornery self, was a true original. "A nickel is holding up a dollar." There was nothing fake about Roy, what you saw was really him. He exasperated his co-stars but oh my, we the viewers just loved him.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
I've watched the show many times. I now this next sentence is going to come across as awful, but I thought he was older, like 20 years older.

Loved his. "Just give me my money and I'll be outta here" attitude. I remember an episode where he drove through a tornado and around closed highways to make it to his son's graduation. He always called a spade a spade. Too young to go but smoking will do that to you.

Maybe I'm biased 'cause I just turned 50, & never heard of him; but RIP, & IMO he looks pretty hot. Wouldn't have kicked him out of bed, but my long-haired tabby already has her white siamese/??? mix as a foot-of-bedfellow. She might have had issues with an additional kitty.
