This is a true story, and I can say it because our friends have a child with Down syndrome and named their family dog "Syndrome". It was purely for the joke of being able to say "Down! Down Syndrome!". They also love that meme with the little DS girl throwing the goat entitled "System of a Down Syndrome". They teach their son to use humour and accept his difference and being unique.
Beautiful, gentle, doggie. Animals give so much and ask for so little. So. Much. Dust in here.

Labs are my life as I have 3:) my nephew lost his hearing at 1yr due to meningitis. After many months in hospital he came home and the labs totally changed around him. He learned to walk hanging onto them. He started speaking by singing songs to the dogs who would just lay there at his feet. Every child should know the love of a dog:)

I love this video, the dog is so patiently trying to get the boy to interact with her.
We rescued a dog with a severely broken leg, surgery and a lot of carrying, her up and down stairs ensued. She repaid us her whole lifelong by being our "nurse" dog. If someone in the house was ill she stayed by their bedside,forgoing meals and her own comforts to stay close. She reacted to emotional pain as well, being the constant companion of anyone who was going through a sad time.
Dogs are a true gift to mankind.
I couldn't decide who I felt more sorry for...the needy dog who wasn't getting any love, or the kid who's personal space wasn't being respected.
Again 7/11 comedy gold! Don't forget to mention how us old betches wiill need a dog to love us due to our extreme physical undesirability. But Wendy that lucky taunt, she never will grow old. NEVAH!
I babysat for a child with Downs Syndrome in Jr. and Sr. High and he was so wonderful and sweet. Their family German Shepherd was very protective of him. Tragically little Clancy died at 18. I never told the family how sorry I was and I regret it to this day. They were people who deserved to be parents to a special needs child. Their love and patience had no end. Now I'm crying.
@Sherry, I forgot about that! And we won't ever get married if we haven't by the ripe old age of 40, right? ;)
I saw this on another site, the dog's name is Himalaya and the mother had written was the boy has a very hard time being touched. So the fact the dog kept gently nudging to pet him and at the 3:12 range the boy hugs him is beyond sweet and heartbreaking.
Dogs are a miracle.
@Sherry - it is never too late to tell that boy's parents. I am sure they would be happy to hear that he positively affected you and you still think of him.

I don't think he's hugging the dog, I think he's trying to "pull" him away, but in the wrong direction. Like Topper said, I feel bad for both of them.
There's no way either the dog or the boy are doing anything wrong. They're both being gentle and patient with each other. That dog simply won't take no for an answer - that boy WILL be her friend, period!

I don't think that was a hug. I think he was trying to get the dog away from him. That dog is so patient and loving! The boy was incredibly gentle with the dog. Most kids that age would've pitched a fit.
dogs somehow have to be related to God, I met a dog just like this while in the hospital for 3 mths, she made my day and inspired me to get my own dog who keeps me sane and my heart open and flowing. they're gorgeous hearted, and are superhereos! in so many ways we can only aspire to! beautiful!
Seriously? That child clearly wants nothing to do with that dog and shame on the parents/owners for allowing that to happen. It was all fine until the kid starts putting his hands in the dogs mouth/nose. One wrong move from a kid with impaired motor skills and his finger is in the dogs eye or mouth and the dog snaps at him for hurting her and then the child is injured and the dog is vilified. A completely irresponsible situation
I can't watch this...I know I'll cry. Just seeing the still image is making me tear up.
