I actually thought about Lindsay Lohan yesterday for the first time in a week or so and it had nothing to do with what she did. Instead, I got an alert to my phone from Variety when they sent out their review of The Canyons. Yeah, I was expecting it to be brutal, but instead, Variety loved it. They especially loved Lindsay in it. I know, I know. It still does not mean I want to watch it or that I would hire her for anything, but they said, “Lindsay Lohan brings a raw conviction to Paul Schrader's ultra-low-budget but handsomely made study of hungry young things clawing at the good life.” Raw conviction is not the greatest review ever, but it is the only thing anyone has said positive about Lindsay Lohan's acting since someone said, “Well at least it ended after 90 minutes.” Variety also called Lindsay a “fascinating presence.”
I can't handle seeing her get praise like that. It is so unusual. What is not unusual is that she is skipping the country right when she gets out of rehab to go to the Venice Film Festival for the premiere of the movie and this is where she will face her greatest challenge. You don't think she is going to want to celebrate? If anything bad is going to happen to Lindsay, it will be in Venice.
