Love Actually Star Files For Bankruptcy

Martine McCutcheon was the perfect casting choice to play Hugh Grant's tea lady and romantic interest in Love Actually. Although in the US she is mainly known for that one role she was on East Enders in the UK forever and even had a best selling novel and a record that went triple platinum. Yesterday she filed for bankruptcy and says she owes about $250K, most of which is owed to the tax man. At her peak she was making millions but she says that she loved to spend on nice things and her movie career never took off like she thought it would and now it is tough to find work and she is left with a closet filled with nice things, but no money.

Plumpy!!! Man, do I love Love Actually!

I think that qualifies her to play in the NFL.

EastEnders. One word.

Was she the chubby girl?

I would just like to say that Love Actually is the best movie ever made. I loved her character. I hope she'll be ok.

@Topper - she was called chubby but she didn't look it to me!

@Ms Cool, I concur.

That's chubby? The fuck?

Hey at least she admits her irresponsibility and knows it's all her fault! Altho she is so adorable, too bad she stopped getting work. I wonder if it's because they called her chubby and she got linked with that so no one would hire her? Because she has a healthy and beautiful figure instead of looking emaciated.

I've never seen Love Actually. Is it a romantic comedy? I don't like romantic comedies.

Snapdragon said...

I adore her (and def. appreciate her candor)! She's cute and NOT AT ALL CHUBBY. I wish her all the best.

(PS. I love Love, Actually too. ♥)

@g.strathmore: "Love Actually" is a romantic comedy that even my husband loves. Between the utter massacre of our wedding song (being changed from "Love is All Around" to "Christmas is All Around"), Alan Richman being the asshole husband of Emma Thompson, Billy Bob Thornton's epic impersonation of Bill Clinton, Judy Davis' & Martin Freeman's "movie", etc., it's our favorite Christmas movie. Definitely worth checking out.

Oh, and the gift wrapping scene with Alan Richman and Rowan Atkinson may be the funniest scene in a Christmas movie ever.

Wow we are getting the truth for once. Usually the celebrity will blame the accountant or their management team (which we all know is a piece of crock.)

I love Love Actually. It's funny how the Brits view (or viewed) all Americans as being from Texas. Billy Bob had Bill Clintons personality but Bush's twang, and the girls from Wisconsin wore tank tops, cowboy boots and cowboy hats in the dead of winter.

g.strathmore said...

@StewMcG, maybe I'll have to check it out. I love Judy Davis.

Love Actually is so one of my faves. And we can't forget the awesomeness that is "The Trouble With Love Is" by Kelly Clarkson. Such a good tune.

And the hottie who attempts to hookup with Laura Linney. OMG. I die.

The Kiera Knightly and Colin Firth storylines get me every time. I think I've seen this film about 100 times. The Hubs and I always watch during the holidays. It was one of the first films we saw while dating.

And the rocker guy is hysterical. I love him.

Jessica said...

Slow news day, eh?

StewMcG said...

Crap! Not Judy Davis, Joanna Page. (Although, in my defense, her character introduces herself as "just Judy.")

Sorry @g.strathmore.

ms_wonderland said...

'Rocker guy' is Bill Nighie, acting legend. He's hilarious. 'Love Actually' has one of the best scenes ever, when Emma Thompson realises that Alan Rickman is cheating on her. So subtle. Plus there's Martin Freeman as a naked stand in for a porno. The only bad actor in the film was Martine MacCucheon.

I don't know her of course, but the rumour is she didn't get work because she's a screaming diva.

g.strathmore, I hate romantic comedies, but LOVE this movie! My husband was watching this on some premium cable channel for the SECOND time and told me I would love it. Since he knows my tastes, I checked it out. A great great movie! So many wonderful people in it, and a call for love in out lives.

I love Love Actually. And she was great in it. I hope she makes more money, stat!

Don't forget Hugh Grant's epic dance scene!

Can I just echo what you guys said? My hubs is sooo picky about movies and he loves it too. Best movie ever!

I was going to comment that one of the readers that sent in a photo the last round looked very much like Martinez, but I didn't b/c I figured someone would bring up her being chubby and they might be insulted. I think she's beautiful.
Love Actually is one of my favorite movies. Hope she gets her finances in order.

Forgot to add that I love that January Jones is one of the Wisconsin hotties who Colin finds. Hysterical.

Emma Thompson is fabulous in it. But, she's fabulous in everything.

The Andrew Lincoln/Keira Knightley story line gets me every time! I love when she discovers that he loves her after watching her wedding video and then he leaves while Dido plays in the background. The scene where he holds up the cards makes me choke up.

The last scene in the movie at the airport while God Only Knows always makes me cry.

I love this movie in its entirety. It's brilliant, the acting is awesome, it's funny and the musical score is perfection. I'll stop gushing now.

"Love Actually" is one of my fam's top movies. We love it. She's so gorgeous, esp in that red coat!

Hopefully she doesn't have to declare 18 times like Toni Braxton.

Let's get pissed and watch porn!

Count me in on the "Love, Actually" love. My favorite scene is when Colin Firth asks "bonita Aurelia" to marry him. And the airport scene. And the gift-wrapping scene. And hugh Grant dancing. And his bodyguard singing. Aw hell, I love the whole damn movie, except for Keira Knightley.

I used to watch her on "EastEnders" which runs on PBS here. She played Tiffany Mitchell, wife of bad boy Grant Mitchell. They fought a lot and Tiffany met her end after another fight in the pub. She ran out of the pub away from Grant and was run over by a car just as the New Year (1998?) began. Shortly after that she was in Love Actually, and I haven't seen her in anything else since.

jane3113 said...

I don't think anyone thinks she's chubby. She's called chubby in the movie which leads to Hugh Grant's hilarious, "would we call her chubby?" falsetto response.

Andrew Lincoln. I have a t shirt with Rick Grimes holding a sign that says To Me You Are Perfect

MissInfo said...

Ahhh well at least she's honest about overspending and not thinking things through unlike some people who blame their accountants and "people" for failing to handle their affairs properly. I wish her the best of luck with her future! She was one of my fave characters in the movie...especially when she's coming down the stairs putting on her coat and cursing...LOL!

g.strathmore said...

All right, you guys have convinced me. Into the Netflix cue it goes.

All about Eve said...

I adore Love, actually! I loved her character! It's like the normal girl getting the hot guy! But I can't pick one story as my favorite, they're all so good.

@g.strathmore, I highly recommend it :)

Um, does this fit the blind of the actor who confided in an actress and she is gonna sell him out?

And I LOVE this film

In my Top Five of All-Time Favorites, RomCom or Otherwise. (And I DO typically hate romcoms.) Yet I only let myself watch it at Christmas.

Ah hell, maybe I'll watch it tomorrow night.

Alan. Colin. Liam. You CAN'T go wrong.

Also...

"She's called chubby in the movie which leads to Hugh Grant's hilarious, '"would we call her chubby?' falsetto response."

I say this ALL the time, but often substituting whatever word fits the occasion for "chubby." ;-)

@Pat thanks. :-) Now all I see is the big earrings. Hahaha. I loved Martine in EastEnders. I used to watch that show on PBS. She was awesome. Oh, and count me in as a lover of the movie Love Actually. Now going to watch it again.

After EastEnders she was a pop star and then played the lead in My Fair Lady in the West End. She took a lot of time off during her run on the show - so much so that her understudy did more shows than she did - saying it was illness but she was frequently pictured at parties at the same time (the early Lohan!). She basically got a really bad reputation and hasn't worked properly for years.
I really like one of her albums though. The single I'm Pver You was great pop.
