A Great Story

Just a really great story. The world would be a better place if every story had a happy ending like this.

*sniff* damn, sure got dusty in here all of a sudden *blows nose, wipes eyes*

So is this a national chain? Are they in south Florida? I don't really care for Cajun food but I'll certainly give them a try. God bless these owners.

Lord love him. On another note: Who all is sick of the phrase "Gone viral"?

I totally understand why that guy hired him, too. It is hard to find people who would be so dedicated. Not saying anyone should walk through a storm like that, but the fact that he's willing shows character. And I didn't catch if it said, but I'm assuming he's making more than minimum wage then?

It is such a heart warming story. His mom died 2 years ago and he is taking care of his brother and sister. He dropped out of high school and got his GED. He was on his way to an interview for a minimum wage job at Dairy Queen, when he asked the restaurant guy how much further had he to go, after already walking 3 miles, the guy about 6-7 more miles. Later he and his wife say him walking and offered him a ride.

They asked what he was doing and he said going to an interview. The guy them offered him a job at double the pay at his restaurant.

He was walking because he could not afford bus fare, so the bus company has also gifted him with a years worth of fare cards.

*sniff, sniff*

I should show this to a certain someone in my life who doesn't seem to understand that to get a job, one must go out and look for a job!!!

Sorry for the mini-rant but I'm feeling a little bleak and hopeless about my situation. Operation: Take No Shit: Day 7 and still standing firm!! I suck hard at being assertive and at a low ebb today. This story did my little heart good, though. Much luck and success and health and happiness to all involved!!

Thanks Kendra. The back story makes this story all the more poignant.

Omg thanks, ktheletter :) I love Cajun food, but every time I go to Yats I have an awful experience, so I just gave up after a while. Hopefully I can talk husband into going.

Indianapolis resident here. I think it's a local place - not a chain. However, the buzz around here is that his business has been booming since the story hit facebook late last week - and that was before national outlets picked it up. That makes me so happy for "Papa" and this family. If you look on the Papa Roux facebook page, it's full of comments from people who have been dropping by Visa gift cards, etc. to this young man. I read a comment by the owner that said that he really didn't have enough business to justify hiring another person when he offered the job - but now he does.

Kind people of the world (and of the Hoosier state!), I salute you!

That's a great story.

I always feel badly when someone loses their mother young. I lost mine as an adult and felt the loss pretty deeply.

@ Reese - I don't know what you're going through but stand strong and keep on keepin' on!

The video won't load for me. Darn it, I'm in the mood for a little cry. Does anyone have an alternate link to the video or story?

Well, I was all "Awww" til I read the backstory KendraWM provided and now I want to cry. That poor kid! I'm glad people are trying to help him out. Maybe someone should submit this to Ellen.
