Dolphins are amazing smart, I am a sucker and cry at this stuff. You can almost see the dolphin thinking. Really special. Thank you divers and thank you for sharing your video!

I saw this video this morning and about cried my widdle eyes out. I love dolphins so much and I'm so happy this guy was able to help.
What an awesome experience for him. (the diver, not the dolphin!)

This video was worth looking at purely for the manta rays in the first 45 seconds. Sadly I only made it to the 2 minute mark.. The cheesy 80's pornscape music killed it for me.

I just got back from Kona. The waiter at our restaurant showed this to us as it just had happened a few days earlier. So amazing.

One of the best experiences of my life was swimming in the Gulf of Mexico with a few hundred dolphins in the wild. It was so spiritual and indescribable.

When we were in the Keys we went to the Dolphin Research Institute. The leader asked my husband to pick up a rock and look at it. He handed the rock to the guide who threw it a few hundred feet out into the ocean. A dolphin retreived it and handed it back to the trainer who in turn gave it to my husband. He keeps it on his desk to center himself when he's stressed. They are amazing creatures.

Terri thank you for sharing!!! So sweet

Terri, that is a great story! Thanks to everyone else for sharing their dolphin experiences too.

LOVE this video. Incredible! Manatees experience the same fate in the wild unfortunately. They are always found tangled in nets or fishing lines and hooks, if not just outright hit by boats. They are the derps of the sea, but I love them!

God bless the gentle creatures of the sea like the dolphins and manatees!:)

How people can say animals have no emotions is beyond me. It is our job to protect them when we can. Bless this divers soul for coming to the rescue.

Yes beautiful story

@Land Manatee: I have never seen a manatee in the wild and it's on my bucket list. I've spent many weeks in Sanibel, Clearwater, Naples and lived in Miami for 9 years and NEVER saw one. I love them as well.

I used to be an avid scuba diver, oh manta rays are amazing but to be able to help a dolphin is so incredible. That made me cry and yearn to be able to dive again but after 5 spine surgeries it may not be wise. You are always supposed to have your dive knife with you but now I think some tin snips would be a good thing to have too!

That was so beautiful.
I'm constantly amazed by the intuition and trust of animals and the capacity for understanding and compassion of humans.
Thank you all for sharing your stories and to Enty for posting this.

@Terri - How can you live in Florida and never have seen a sea cow? LOL - I was once on Google Street view in the Orlando, Florida area, moving my little Google dude around and I stumbled across a house that had a Manatee mailbox! It was soo awesome! Only in Florida LOL!

I hope you get to mark swimming with the Manatees off your bucket list this year!

They are there in Crystal River, FL. Hope you have a blast! ;)

That was a great video. Dolphins are very smart. To bad we treat our oceans so poorly...

Thanks for the smile, Enty.

Thanks for the swimming with Manatees link, something on my bucket list for sure but I thought they were in the keys? Cool thing to do. I love me some sea cows, derps or not!

I used to work with a guy who studied dolphins. They're supposedly the smartest beings on this planet. I don't doubt it.

I did that manta ray dive last year. It was one of the most magical experiences if my life. The rays are as big as a car. And then to have a dolphin friend show up and ask for help. Just amazing!!!

I got very teary too. You know the poor guy was suffering in order to trust humans that much.

Here is another wonderful sea rescue video. It is worth nine minutes of your life, I promise. And notice how much net they pull aboard!

I am about halfway through with a documentary that came out a few years ago, The Cove. Kind of gut wrenching to watch but truly amazing how intelligent these creatures are. I'm glad this one could be helped.

My favorite dolphin experience was in Greece, we were on a day cruise island hopping and it was evening when we were heading back to Athens.

I was standing at the front of the boat with some friends, well more leaning at the front of the boat. The bow was slanted upwards at a 130 degree angle so we just laid on the steel with our heads dangling over the top. The whole way in there was a herd of probably 15 swimming along with the boat. It was incredible, leaning out made it feel like we were flying right above the dolphins, almost like we were a part of their group.

Leliana just a warning, the end is almost unbearable. It is gut wrenching, disturbing, it will stay with you forever, and it will put you into a rage watching how cruel these people can be. At least, that's what it did to me. I wanted to fly across the globe and throttle every single one of those scum bags.

@Terri, my brother lives in Florida, outside of Tampa, he has a dock in his backyard and I've seen so many manatees just swimming by, they're actually cute :)

redfishbluefish said...

I live in NE Florida and we have dolphins and manatees come by our dock all the time. I'll post a link tomorrow to a video of one drinking from our hose. We see pods of dolphins every single time we take the boat or wave runners out. I never ever get over the thrill of seeing them. Amazing creatures. I love the Research Institute. I've swam with them several times there and it's worth every penny

Terri said...

im so jealous!! I will see manatees one day.

JSierra said...

Redfish please! And when can I come and live in your backyard? It sounds like you live in paradise.

I have also done that dive- about 5 years ago. It was ,I've changing.

I can't wait to do it again!

Sweet dolphin, I loved how he asked for help!

Decided to go ahead and post on YouTube for easier access.

Here is the link: http://youtu.be/ZJvzOj4_kOo

I won't leave it up there forever--it wasn't there originally because *technically*, it's illegal to feed and/or interact with wild manatees because they're protected. We were out working on the dock when this guy came by, but we also didn't STOP him from drinking....but I don't want to have to explain that to Fish & Wildlife! :)

AMAZING.

I'm so happy they removed the line, but they weren't able to remove the hook?

@JSierra, I am scared to finish it (but I will). :-( I cried so much watching it, already.
