Jenni Rivera Has Died

Millions of fans are mourning the death of popular Mexican-American singer and reality show star Jenni Rivera, “La Diva de la Banda,” as she was also known, following the crash of the small plane taking her and some members of her team from Monterrey,  Mexico.  She had performed in a concert and was heading to the region of Toluca, where she was also scheduled to sing.  Rivera was 43.

The Learjet carrying the 43-year-old performer lost contact with air traffic controllers after it took off from Monterrey, Mexico, at 3:15 a.m. following Rivera's concert there. Contact was lost about 60 miles away, Mexico's transportation ministry said in a statement. It was scheduled to arrive in Toluca, outside Mexico City, before sunrise.

Jenni was also the star of I Love Jenni, a reality show that aired on Telemundo's mun2 documenting the singer's jet-set life as an entertainer and mother of five children. It also featured her publicist, lawyer and makeup artist, who were all on the plane with her.

Earlier this month, ABC tapped Rivera to star in her own show. The self-titled comedy, Jenni, would feature her as a strong, middle-class, single Latina woman working to raise a family using unique parenting skills.

We are at a loss for such a unique entertainer. To all those, especially immediate family and friends who lost their beloveds on the plane, my thoughts and prayers. May they rest in peace.

I'm not familiar with her music but from what I heard of her on the news yesterday she was obviously very talented. It sounds like her new show would have made her more mainstream as well. It's a shame. RIP to her and all that perished on that flight.

Why do these small planes seem like a death wish to all that take them?

She had just signed a deal with ABC for a family style sitcom a few days ago. Jenni was always working whether she was doing concerts, her radio show, her reality show, even a little bit of acting. This is such a tragedy and I can only imagine what her family & children are feeling.

May she Rest In Paradise.

I was reading that she was going to Toluca to appear on Mexicos version of The Voice where she was on of the mentors. They are in the semi-finals and canceled last nights show due to her disappearance.

I don't know who she was, but this is really sad. :( She looked like she was probably a lovely person.

God, how awful. I didn't know she had children.

I've asked the same question as Desiree. Is it actually the plane or could it be more about the pilot in these small plane crashes? It makes me think of JFK Jr., who I believe was just too inexperienced to be able to fly without an instructor in the weather conditions. I don't believe it had anything to do with is plane, more the fact that he was flying alone with only 300 flying hours under his belt.

I have no idea who this is, but god, soooo sad. Five kids left without a mother is such a terribly sad thing. Much peace and love to those who loved her. RIP

Didn't know who she was until this but I think it's pretty cool that she was managing to have a career as a singer at 42 with 5 kids. What a shame we won't get to see was she would have done next.

I never knew who she was until I saw an episode of her show. She came across as a warm and lovely person. She also had an amazing voice. I'm heartbroken for her family as well as the people who were on the plane with her.

Very sad indeed. I was actually on a flight back from Mexico City on Sun when I heard about it. The dumbass flight attendants were discussing the plane crash in front of the passengers. Not a great idea.

She is one of the few Mexican singers that I adored. She was always humble. SHe had been abused, her ex-husband sexually abused their 2 daughters and her sister.
Some people are saying that since they haven't found her body, that she was taken by the cartel and is being held hostage.

@ Flower Girl: that breaks my heart even more. As someone who can easily go for a week without turning on the tv or radio, I can totally see it happening.

The family are still hopeful that she survived :(

I didn't like most of her music but she did have a great voice and I loved her strong, fun and humble personality. Her life was not easy but she still managed to make something of herself. My heart goes out to her family and to the families of all those lost in this tragic accident. RIP Jenni, you will be missed.
