Lisa Welchel Has West Nile Virus

Yesterday Lisa Welchel Tweeted that her doctor informed her she has West Nile Virus. She does not seem all that concerned about it. There was a period about a month ago when the weather got really hot here and it seemed like the mosquitoes were back in force and the stories were everywhere that I actually had a little paranoia about getting it. Lisa says that she is just tired and that it takes a year to recover. Haven't people died from it? Maybe I didn't need to freak out about it. Being tired is not such a bad thing. I could use the sleep. She didn't get the virus while shooting Survivor. With that whole Survivor thing and now West Nile Virus, I think she has the two ingredients necessary for her to get her own reality show. Either that or she can be the new Mrs. Garrett on a re-boot of Facts of Life.

Two ppl died in Texas from WNV recently. I don't know their age or health circumstances but yeah, it can kill....but so can the flu...

We had an outbreak here in Houston and there were a few people who died. WNV is no joke.

Ahhhhh what an awesome suggestion! How great would it be if they did another Facts of Life?! I loved that show!

It depends on how bad you get it, it can be very mild, fever and feeling icky for a few days to death.
Again people with a normal healthy immune system usually fight it off with no problems.

@auntliddy, I love her on there too! So glad it's finally getting good this season.

Yes! Facts of Life reboot! Lisa would be perfect as the new head mistress. OK Producer types... Lets green light this one!

Amber, I loved that show too! Childhood memories flooding in!

I am behind on my Survivor watching. Glad to know she's still around. Blair needs to win this! Her hair alone needs to win! She looks fabulous out there!!!

She hasn't changed much in 25 years. She looks good.

This season of Survivor is one of the best I've seen in years and I've seen every season. I'm so glad Lisa didn't get voted off early because her inner struggle and game play strategy are fascinating. Lisa for the win!!!

@sugar, really you think it's one of the best? I'd say it only just got interesting. I hate how predictable it's been the past few seasons. I'm just glad some people are mixing things up again. But umm OT I have the biggest crush on Malcolm. He just seems so...perfect.

Add me to the list of people who are loving this season if survivor and want to see a facts of life reboot. I have fallen in love with Lisa this season, and I was always a Jo girl before. Lisa's arc has been incredible, and last nights conversation between her and johnathan was beautiful, touching, and masterful. In fact, bring Johnny blue eyes on as a character in the facts of life reboot, as the dean or a wise teacher.

I am sorry to hear she is sick but she is healthy otherwise and under a doctors care so she should be fine.

I was a survivor fanatic for a long time and then quit watching and only recently started back. I would say this season is as entertaining as the first few and I attribute it to the casting and editing. I was leery about 3 returning contestants but Penner has been great, as has Lisa.

Yeah, Silver I really do! Because it has been so predictable these last few seasons. Lots of talk about a big move, then, utter predictibility. I love how 2 weeks ago 4 names were bouncing around right as everyone was leaving for Tribal Council and SURPRISE! It was Jeff!
Abi is a super robo bitch. There I said it.

One more thing-- jeff probst hates abi so much!

WE had a rash of WNV deaths in in Texas. In houston we had a couple of deaths. I believe they were elderly but don't quote me on that because I'm too lazy to do the research. North Texas was the most affected. I think they had along the lines of 15-ish deaths.

WNV is most dangerous to children, the elderly, and those that have compromised immune systems. If you are a relatively healthy person, you're likely to survive but it will still make you VERY ill for a long time.

she would be a wonderful Mrs. Garrett...I vote yes on rebooting Facts of Life.

I didn't mean to all caps that "we" like i was trying to making a point.

I really like Lisa too.

And Sugar, I agree with you - Abi is such a bitch. She needs a good smack. I don't know why they haven't booted her yet.

Yeah I guess I was just upset that first team lost every time. I actually can't believe two people are still standing from that tribe. Abi is what my friends and I like to call a CB (two inappropriate terms for women combined) lol. Her ass needs to go!!! My fav season was Russell Hantz's first season, by far. Too bad you have to make friends to win.

Totally on board with the Facts of Life reboot. I watched the Molly Ringwald year, the Clooney years, the catering business years, the gift shop years, the Cloris Leachman years the college years and the law school years.

There's been about 20 people who have died from West Nile here in the DFW area. I didn't realize why everyone was hysterical about it until an acquaintance got it. There's no treatment for it, it just runs it's course.

That said, everyone got absolutely hysterical about it, probably because a several of the deceased were old people from the really really expensive part of town.

I woke up to the Facts of Life story on Nick this morning and was wondering why I never see reruns. Kinda weird that I am getting 2 FOL references in one day though, lol

I know someone who just died from West Nile Virus a month ago. He was in his late 60s/early 70s.

nancer said...

it mainly kills the elderly or those with compromised immune systems. if we got tested (here in houston), we'd find a whole lot of us have antibodies to it, meaning we've had it but didn't know it because we didn't get symptoms.
so she's not being stupid. she won't die from it.

Momster said...

I think I had it when I lived in Houston several years ago. Had what felt like a nasty case of the flu with a god-awful headache. A week later, an elderly man just one neighborhood over passed away from the disease.

There's been 12 so far, in Oklahoma, that have passed away from WNV.

A past boyfriend, eons ago, used to serve her meals at a FW country club. He said she was a total bitch. This was in the early 80's.

Her book, Creative Correction, is nothing more than a child abuse manual. She makes me sick.

I too have missed the past couple of seasons of Survivor, and only started watching this season to see how Blair was doing. She hasn't changed a bit, and she is great on Survivor! I'm not sure I want her to win, but I do hope she goes far.

Here is an excerpt for her book, I can see where the spanking fetish in adults might originate from. She tells mums they must smack hard enough to hurt and to smack the kids in their preferred position for punishment.
WTF?

God's Word frequently addresses the subject of raising children. Corporal punishment is no exception. For example, Proverbs 13:24 reads, "He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him." I wholeheartedly agree, and I'm sure you do, too--if we love our kids, we should correct them.

I believe children also understand this (though they may not admit to it!). Somehow, they intuitively know spankings are good for them, and that they receive them not only because they deserve it, but also because their parents love them. Let me see if I can convince you.

One evening, when Haven was only two and a half years old, Steve and I left the kids with a baby-sitter. Our instructions were clear: The girls went to bed at 7:00, Tucker at 8:00. When we arrived home at 8:30, the children were in bed, but even from the family room, we could tell that Haven wasn't asleep. There was screaming coming from her bedroom. She was in the midst of a full-blown temper tantrum, and the baby-sitter, Shawna, said she'd been acting that way all evening.

When I went to talk with Haven, I expected to be met with more screaming and crying. But instead she said, "'Pank me."

"Did Miss Shawna spank you?" I queried, confused.

"No. 'Pank me," she urged once again....

"Do you want Mommy to spank you?" I asked, my jaw dropping in astonishment.

"Yes!" said Haven, and she jumped out of bed for her correction. Afterward, she locked her arms around me in a bear hug.

@astrogirl, wow...that is certainly a WTF quote. I don't even know what to say. And FTR, I am not against spanking necessarily...but that is a bit of a creepy story to me.

What else does she talk about in the book?

astrogirl said...

Jules_345. I am not against smacking either but she ritualises it with positions and bible quotes, that's where the creep sets in for me.

Another quote I found disturbing as toddlers aren't really big on logic.

Toddler independence? If your little one balks at holding your hand while in a parking lot or crossing the street, give him a choice. Remind him, "I can either hold your hand or hold your hair." Independence isn't quite so appealing on those terms

And she advocates hot sauce on the tongue for swearing.

My dad was diagnosed with it in August and it's damn scary. He could not walk, was so confused, severe headaches, bp was all over the place, etc. He had every test under the sun before they finally tested him for for WN. He is much better but it can have permanent neurological side effects.

Jules_345 said...

@sparkles, glad to hear your dad is doing better, it is such a scary thing

@astrogirl, thx for the additional information...she sounds like a whack-a-do
