Brooke Burke Has Cancer

In a video post yesterday, the co-host of Dancing With The Stars, Brooke Burke, announced that she has thyroid cancer and will be undergoing a thyroidectomy. Brooke had a nodule in her throat and after numerous tests, it was discovered the nodule was cancerous. Brooke says she is not sick and has never felt better and that she is telling everyone because she is going to have a big scar in the middle of her throat. I wonder if that means she would not have said anything if the scar could have been hidden. I hope everything goes as smoothly as she says and that everything works out great.

Glad she is speaking out. Thyroid cancer is one of the most treatable when caught early. My friend was diagnosed with it at 28 soon after her wedding. She was treated quickly and is fine, even had a baby a few months ago.

A couple of friends of mine have lived through this, and are doing just fine. Plus it isn't a big scar, Enty. My friend who had a thyroidectomy about 2 years ago has a scar that's less than an 1" long.

As bland as she is, for some reason I just love her. I don't know why. She is so awful on DWTS. I wish her the best of luck and happiness.

I had a thyroidectomy 18 years ago and if her doctor is good, the scar won't be noticeable, they tend to cut along the natural crease of your neck and when it heals, the scar is barely noticeable. Hope all goes well for her.

My co-worker had this surgery, I told her the scar made her look like a badass.

Whatever the reason, I'm glad she went public about this. I had this same cancer, diagnosed at age 38. It is the fastest growing type of cancer (as far as new cases) in the US and hits women 3:1 to men. The surgery is not too bad, recovery is OK. The scar is minimal but noticeable especially I'm sure when she is on camera/modeling. The hardest part is adjusting to the thyroid medication that does the work of regulating your metabolism that your thyroid once did. It took me two solid years to feel "normal" again. As a mom, it's even harder b/c you do not get the rest you need . I wish her the very best and wear my scar with pride as I hope Brooke will.

This is totally bitchy but when I look at her, all I see are her giant nostrils.

I hope she heals quickly so I can continue making fun of her every time she says, "thanks, Tom!"

I have a big scar on my neck...maybe I can contact Brooke and we can have a little club. And we can expand it to the jaw and invite Tina Fey too. :-)

My dad passed away from thyroid cancer, after it had spread to his lungs. His quack doctor kept telling us, "We're not sure what's going on here, but I can tell you it's NOT cancer!" Not getting a 2nd opinion sealed my dad's fate.

Early detection is key!

Congrats to those who have beat thyroid cancer! And my condolences to those who have lost loved ones too it.

I recently had to have a six inch chunk of my arm removed due to cancer and it is a scary experience.

Hopefully her recovery is speedy and she won't have to deal with it again.

She works in Hollywood, Enty. They have makeup and professional artists that could cover her scar and no one would ever be able to tell. I doubt she would have kept it hidden if not for the scar.

My boyfriend had thyroid cancer this year. Although it was scary, I was glad that he works in the best cancer hospital in Scotland and he got amazing care, quickly. When he was released after surgery he joked he felt like Frankinstein's monster! Now that the scar is settled, it looks like a normal crease in his neck. My other friend wasn't so lucky on the scar front, they needed to go in twice, causing quite an angry scar, but I think she's more happy about doing well :)

Well done to Brooke, and good luck to her for her treatment.

I hate to hear that ANYONE has ANY form of cancer but she has the personality of a tree and is HORRIBLE on DWTS.

My scar is 8 inches! I had lots of lymph node involvement (as many do) so the scar is not exactly minimal in all cases.

My thoughts go out to Brooke. I just wish she hadn't labeled it the good cancer. Huge and dangerous misconception... The NIH only allotted 14 mil. To research last year, despite dx's doubling every 15 years. Ambient radiation, I am sure, but we won't know unless thyca stops getting minimized as the good cancer and starts getting more funds... As a comparison, Breast, prostate and brain cancer get about 500 mil a year EACH.

Brooke Burke was freakin AMAZING on wild on-she had such a unique approach to hosting such a scandolous show.
Also, when we talk about celebs fame-whoring we often forget those who just work hard and continuosly.
She could easily have been a january jones et. al. with all her gorge babies from hot men, and her own insane looks, but she has managed to be marketable, well-liked, and well-known for years without having to pimp herself out in the spotlight.

I wish her the best!
