The Wire never won one Emmy. I repeat, the greatest and most critically acclaimed television show in history was never awarded an Emmy.

These awards mean nothing. It's basically a popularity contest and fashion show.

I have never seen Homeland, so I don't know if it's any good, but I am glad to see Damian Lewis recognized.

Love Downton Abbey, so happy for Dame Maggie Smith!

Happy for Homeland! GREAT show!

i feel a wee bad for not caring about this event...i just want us to get to pictures so someone can please explain ashley judd's juiced-and-roided bouffant.

that is all.

What's with all the Modern Family wins and Cryer win? Seems like shows that have been on that long don't win much.

I agreed with all the Drama wins.

I agreed with none of the Comedy wins.

But what did I expect. It's not like the Emmy voters understand comedy anyway.

Long time lurker - first time poster (w the time difference I'm usually way too late to join the fun)... Anyhoo, I would have just loved it if Steve Buscemi had won - I think he is just fab in Boardwalk Empire - but good on Damian, he was pretty darn amazing in Homeland.

Oh and I just adored the shocker yellow/chartreuse dresses worn by both Julie Bowens and Claire Danes - I think I might be the only one though!

p.s. Ashley why are you wearing a circa 1990's bridesmaids dress?

Jeneral said...

I loved Julie's dress too! I'm a blond, I might try to pull off that color now. Girls should have won best comedy. It is completely original and hilarious in a horrifying way.

It was The Modern Family show last night. Again. Boring.
Kevin Costner was so blase' about winning I wanted to slap him.
I so wanted Cat Deely to win, but I love Tom too.

Hi @ms_jacqui!

I think Peter Dinklage should have won for Game of Thrones. I think he is great!

Hammer_Girl said...

Peter Dinklage is awesome but, Aaron Paul is tight yo!

I can't believe the guy from homeland and homeland itself beat out GOT, BB, and BE.

shauniebear said...

Yaay for Aaron Paul!! He do deserved the win!

Im still so sad Peter Dinklage didn't win. He makes Tyrion so damn likeable, even though he is trying to basically get rid of all the characters I love. GOT (and the books) are so wonderful, i spent my weekend sick as a dog and i watched every episode.

I still haven't watched Homeland OR Breaking Bad but Ive heard a lot of good things about both shows so I'm sure those are deserved wins. Damian Lewis is my favorite ginger (Sorry Conan) and he was incredible in Band of Brothers.

I've always wondered about that, great show no doubt and great acting.

I can't watch award shows any more - they're just popularity contests. How many other professions have self-adoring awards like these? Nursing? Small business owner? Factory worker? Waiter/waitress? Just industries who can publicize the awards - entertainment, journalism, writing.

And yeah, love Steve Buscemi. I've had nightmares each Sunday night after watching Boardwalk Empire.

Happy for Homeland, it's a great show and Game Change was a great movie and deserve the wins but the winners in all the comedy categories feel stale and done, there were better choices!

Mama June said...

Yay for Aaron Paul!

I'm gonna have to catch up with Homeland, have heard nothing but great things about it!

Ugh the Cryer win is when I realized the Emmys are a farce.

Duckie won for comedic lead actor? Me thinks the voters were charitable after having survived the Charlie Sheen explosion and then being required to work opposite Aston.

The fact that The Big Bang Theory even gets nominated for "awards" is enough reason for me to think the show is bullshit. That show is the most unfunny thing on television, right before Two and a Half Men (Jon Cryer for the win? You kidding me?).

figgy said...

Cryer? Two and a half men? Are you freaking kidding me?

Julie Bowen? I love Modern Family, and her character is okay but not nearly as good as Mayim Bialek's on Big Bang Theory.

I wish Colbert Report would win over Daily Show just ONCE.

I'm with Pookie - I just want to look at the red carpet pictures. I don't even watch any of these shows - I'm officially a middle-aged mom who doesn't know what's hip and doesn't even care :-). But I still love me some red carpet snark!

(If you need me during Prime Time, I'll be watching baseball or dvr'ed Antiques Roadshows. And working on my needlepoint. I'm that boring :-).)

ITA! I love Breaking Bad. Halfway through season 5.

misspeg86 said...

Hi there fellow Aussie! :)

The Dude said...

Cryer got the "2nd banana" award. He was great in the early years of the show, last year they gave him the crappiest, most moronic things to do and he did them, he deserves the award just for enduring Charlie, Chuck & Ashton.

misspeg86 said...

Thanks for this list Enty. I'm sure it will be handy for one of your upcoming juicy blinds!

Dinklage was robbed!

Ok, I just reviewed red carpet pics over at Us Weekly, and today's Randoms should be great fun! I think this year's Emmys had more WTF than ever! I felt like I needed a pencil and notepad to keep track of all the actresses who have made poor facial augmentation choices. And don't get me started on their boob management skills - some of those dresses are NOT getting the job done!

Come on, Random Pics time!

Ari said...

I'm just clad Tim Van Patten won for Boardwalk Empire, that show never gets enough props

Shit You Can't Buy said...

:O No Peter Dinklage as a winner? Come on, the guy is brilliant. Same as Kathryn Joosten, amazing on DH.

*madface*

I'm ten episodes in to season 1 of Boarwalk Empire. I friggin love it.

I'm in love with Game of Thrones but felt the second season was a little rushed. Season one stayed so true to book one, yet season 2 which follows book two veered off and the quality ( IMHO ) dropped a bit. I hear they are doing 2 seasons for book 3 which is perfect. Besides by the time book 6 comes out HBO might be out of source material!

Sorry you are sick CB :(

Hope you are resting up with a big bowl of chicken soup! Hugs to you :D

My boyfriend went to high school with Aaron Paul from breaking bad. Congrats to him for winning best supporting actor. He said he was going to Hollywood to make it big and he did!

Onyx Loathes Hydrangeas said...

Tyrion is George RR Martin's fav character. He's not going anywhere for a while (at least I hope not :/)

Dandelion said...

What was up with Hugh Dancy (Claire Dane's husband)? He could not have looked more miserable even when his wife won her Emmy. She thanked him so beautifully in her speech and he could not even bother to crack a smile. Jealousy or is he just a jerk?

dia papaya said...

Dandelion - I was thinking the same thing! He did not look happy.

Not A Ninny said...

It is sad but fair that 30 Rock won nothing this year, but Tina Fey deserves one last Emmy for forbearance for having to put up with Alec Baldwin and Tracy Morgan for seven years.

SB-Local said...

I don't understand how Two and a Half Men is still even on TV, much less how Jon Criar can be considered the best comedic actor. What a load of crap!

YourNameHere said...

I wish Jared Harris won for his performance in the "Commissions and Fees" episode of Mad Men. That episode effected me so much after watching it. I felt a slight bit of depression from watching it and to have that happen from a TV show says a lot to me.

Selock said...

God, so glad Girls didn't win anything...Lena, please go meet Diablo in fad purgatory...
