Natalie Wood Death Certificate Changed

The news that Natalie Wood's death certificate was going to be changed was not a surprise, but the exact wording of what it was going to say was a surprise. It is a pretty interesting change. Previously it said accidental drowning. Now it says drowning and other undetermined factors. That sounds pretty ominous. The document also says that how Natalie got into the water are not clearly established. So, it sounds to me like it just has become a bigger mystery and perfect for another book or movie, but we are no closer to finding any answers or seeing anyone actually be charged with any kind of crime. I would like to know some answers but it might take a deathbed confession from Robert Wagner or Christopher Walken to get any kind of new information.

Enty, get it right! Robert Wagner and Christopher Walken had NOTHING to do with it. I know, I was there. It was an accident!

Oh my god, this again. I won't pay attention until they announce that she's really alive.

I would love to see Robert Wagner just admit what happened.
I think it was a straight-up domestic incident, NOT involving Walken and/or some gay conspiracy.

Am I naive? I don't want to believe Walken would keep such a secret, if he knew what actually happened.

Interesting, but i fear it may remain like Marilyn M unsolved.

Walken has been married forever..
But we will never know what happened..

edit: I think jealousy over Walken was part of it, a 'simple' drunken domestic violence episode that ended in murder, as they so often do.
NOT that Walken & Wagner were doin' it....that's my theory.

I "smell" a new book coming out?

I still want to know about Kirk Douglas and Jean Spangler.

I love me some Walken.

Odd, I was JUST thinking about this case this morning. NOT that I had any insights. ;-)

I agree with @libby...most likely he killed her accidently with a hit on the head or strangulation (which wouldn't be so accidental I guess), threw her over, and her time in the water obscured her injuries.

Barton Fink - agreed. She must be on the same island as Elvis, Tupac & Biggie.

I know most of you ladies know this already, but tell a friend if they don't---MOST beating relationships end with somebody DYING. My best friend's husband was a beater, and killed himself rather than hurt her any more. Just awful, all around.

You have to cut the cord and ESCAPE abuse....otherwise it always end very very badly, for one or both.

I read a book ages ago by Thomas Noguchi, the LA Coronor at the time, that had a pretty plausible explanation of the accident - and it was an accident. There WAS an argument that night and she left the guys to turn in. Once she was in bed, the dinghy kept bumping against the boat and she could't sleep. She was already pissed so she got up to move the dinghy herself to the other side of the boat (where the current would keep it away from the side). She put on a down jacket and went onto the swim step (often covered with slime)to untie the boat, slipped, possibly hit her head and fell into the water. There were witnesses who heard her yelling but couldn't see her. She tried to climb in but the rounded sides of the dinghy and her water-soaked jacket kept her out. Noguchi believes that she fought hard for her life and made a last ditch effort to kick the boat to shore but succumbed to hypothermia. Some bruising on her legs occured as she tried to kick herself backwards into the dinghy. Anyway, I always thought that this sounded much more plausible than any intentional act by either man who seemed to love/care for her.

Goober..All conjecture and I believe Noguchi was admonished a few times in his career for being so outspoken about cases when he should not have been. While they may have modeled a character after him for a TV show, he wasn't all that popular with the people he worked if I recall correctly. If I am wrong please let me know.

However, I too, have read this explanation and it sounds pretty reasonable to me. We will never really know.

@ goheels83 , yes, fascinating that nobody has "solved" it.

Whatever happened on that long ago night, I hope that Natalie rests in peace.

I want to believe that what happened on that night was an accident and that the men, who are two of my favorite actors ever, had nothing to do with it. And I will continue to believe this until someone can provide irrefutable evidence to prove otherwise.

I don't believe the "accident" theory. People who can't swim don't go wandering around in the dark, trying to move dinghies. I've always liked Wagner but...

And thanks, @goheels83 for that link. I didn't know that story. And doesn't Jean Spangler look like Kate Beckinsale. Perhaps we can get Kate to be the ghost of Spangler and haunt Douglas.

Goober, I thought I had heard that she was afraid of swimming and if she was I don't think she would have done what she did.

Natalie was a beautiful woman, such a sad story.

I know being drunk and mad as hell can make people do lots of things they wouldn't normally do. I read a biography years ago and she was petrified of water especially dark water, so how she died is especially haunting. I don't want to believe the conspiracy theories, but anything is possible. I don't think we'll ever know. It's hard to think about her yelling for help in that cold, dark water.

I saw the 50th anniversary showing of West Side Story on the big screen a while back and Natalie was absolutely gorgeous, but even at that young age she had such sad eyes.

And.... She was afraid of the water

I think Wagner is guilty of gross negligence.. either way he knew she was in the water and simply did nothing to help her. I really think Walken went to bed during the fight. He probably has his suspicions and prefers to not even think about it.

I think Walken was in bed. After your host accuses you of sleeping with his wife in a drunken tirade & brandishes a broken wine bottle at you, it's time for bed. Because her husband was drunk & embarrassing her, Wood decided to leave & stay in a hotel the night (which they had done the previous night). She fell in the water, started shouting for help. Wagner was too drunk to realize she was really in trouble & started taunting her from the railing of the boat. In his drunken state it was just a continuation of the earlier argument (all this based on voices heard from other boats at the time). After reading details of how much they had been drinking all day on Catalina Island & continuing to drink on the boat I'd be very surprised if Wagner has any clear memory of what happened when she fell. (I just read 'Natasha' by Suzanne Finstad which deals with all the police investigations & includes all the witness accounts of her last day). It was just a drunken tragedy.

Boats can be so dangerous. Add alcohol and even more danger. There's a floater turning up at least once a month where there are lots of boats. Where water is cold there is not much time to get out of the water. Less than you would think. Something like 15 minutes in Puget Sound I think. I think accident with alcohol more than murder for sure. If she was in trouble and others were drunk, couldn't hear her. Boats are dangerous. If you're docking the pilot can't even hear someone at the bow.
