Tommy Chong Has Prostate Cancer

On Saturday night, Tommy Chong announced to CNN that he is suffering from prostate cancer. he made the announcement during the interview which was about legalizing pot. Tommy, finally gave up smoking pot about a year ago, but says that cannabis and hemp oil is what is going to cure him of prostate cancer and that he has had it 8 years but was only diagnosed a month ago. Yeah, that makes no sense to me either. So, I'm guessing it means he thought he had it but didn't go to a doctor until a month ago. I'm not sure that he should be strictly relying on hemp and cannabis to see him through this disease. I hope he is taking other things too.

Poit didn't keep him from getting it so how will cannabis and hemp cure it? Kinda one and the same.

Cure it or alleviate the symptoms? Big difference.

I thought hemp/cannabis were the same thing??

I don't mean to diminish Tommy Chong's illness but prostate cancer is diagnosed in an estimated 80% of men who reach age 80. Prostate cancer rarely kills anybody because it takes longer to become lethal than any other cancer. Most men who are diagnosed with it die of old age (heart, dementia, etc..). That's why the AMA a couple weeks back announced that doctors should no longer use the PSA test to identify prostate cancer. A 30 year study showed zero difference in outcomes between men not getting PSA tests & those getting them & undergoing prostate cancer treatments.

I think that an article I read said that he was relying on hemp OIL and cannabis.

The craziest part of the interview is that he blames the cancer on time that he spent in prison. Well, maybe that's not as crazy as thinking that pot will cure him.

I don't think that hemp products have the THC in them, or must have been removed. Just because you can buy hemp oil/food anywhere. Even hemp clothing and accessories which you KNOW kids would be buying hemp backpacks if they knew they could get high off them! Imagine the kids, mom, I need a new backpack, I, uh, lost the one you bought me last week. Again, son? That's the 5th backpack this month!

Best wishes to Tommy and his family. Watched his documentary a few years back-Seems like an ok guy. I think he got railroaded on that pot charge a few years back.

With all the drugs he's taken, why would anyone expect him to make rational decisions? I feel awful, and I know if I get cancer I'll explore every alternative to chemo/radiation bc I've had low dose chemo and knew it was destroying my body at the tiny dose. Poor guy but really, don't expect his statements to make sense. You got the major drug experimenting history combined with the completely normal reaction of OMG I HAVE CANCER WHAT THE EFF AM I GOING TO DO?????

You can't expect his brain to be in great shape. He smoked a ton of fucking weed. I hope that whatever he uses as a cure he gets well soon.

Let him roll the way he wants to. No one bothers the people who poison themselves with chemo or rocket fuel injections (like my late mother had).

And yes there is a lot of evidence that herb can cure. A mother down my street was stage four about four yrs ago. It was at this stage I met her because I saw her walking and she reminded me of my mother when she was in her final stages. Well, I walk over there one day and she grabs me and asks if I know where she can get some herb. She tells me the md's told her she had 6mos left to live and so she said fine, but I'm not going to be in pain and on chemo for my last six mos. This sister has three kids. And she figured if she was leaving, she sure as hell wanted to be as present and pain free as possible They told her she was a horrible mother, yada, yada, yada, misinformed, etc (remember cancer is first and foremost a biz) well, she went Melissa Ethridge style (her words) and started to smoke, and ingest herb (I'm far too paranoid so she didn't get it from me)went to an herbologist, learned about how she was in control of her ship aka body, chakra's, etc. and she's still here. She even began walking and was jogging, up until she had her new breasts put in. She's still going strong.

Was it solely herb? Probably not. But herb can help one get more in touch with themselves, leading to a healthier understanding of ones body, which indeed can work miracles.

Most of the people I met when my Mom had cancer that Survived had a very very positive attitude. I met some other stage 4 that had been around for years and lived with it. You never can tell who will live and who will die. My husband lived with Bone Cancer for 10 years. 2 weeks before he died the VA put a ramp on our house and got him a battery powered high tech wheelchair. He got to use it once I told him for a long walk thur our neighbor hood and down to the river. He loved it,but he was in some much pain by then he was on high does of Morphine and pain pills. I am just glad he got out and Hospice was a God since all the help and they come 24/7. I wish all the best to Tommy have always liked him. I donated my hubs wheelchair to the VA group here and they gave it to a VN Vets wife who needed one and had not been out of her house for 2 years. They couldn't afford one and they Ins. was shit. She actually called me to thank me and we cryed together on the phone. She had gone to the grocery store the first day with it and church the second and then she was really wheeling. Good things come out of bad things.

If I was a friend of tommy chong's i'd suggest papaya, and a milk free diet. i read somewhere about the connection between skim milk and prostrate cancer. Also foods high in lycopene, and Cruciferous veggies. he should do some research on foods that heal.

Prostate cancer is a very slow growing cancer in most cases, so it's possible he's had it for 8 years. However, not getting a prostate exam is ludicrous. Young people DO die from it.

@SuRH: I think it's more a matter of not aggressively treating older men (65+ or so) whose cancer seems to be progressing fairly slowly; younger men, I suspect, still get offered the whole surgery/chemo/radiation deal, although whether or not they go for it is up to them. I can understand guys who won't; if you figure you're going to die anyway, you might figure that becoming impotent and incontinent for the sake of a few more months (if that) might not be worth it.

As for Tommy, I'm sorry to hear he's sick, and wish him well. I believe he's stated that the prison he was in was built over a toxic waste dump (which wouldn't surprise me at all, and which certainly wouldn't help); anyway, at this point the weed probably isn't hurting him, and if it makes him feel better, what the hell...

Prostate cancer IS highly curable IF it's found in time. Most of the men who die from it either don't get checked or don't get it treated because they fear becoming impotent. I knew two men who died because they waited too long to get it treated. Sad. Hope Tommy's isn't aggressive and is treatable by something other than pot.

And yes, I believe they remove the THC from hemp fabric, paper, candy, etc. (at least the kind sold openly and legally over the counter, as opposed to medical marijuana establishments), so smoking your shirt isn't going to get you high, and will probably just get you labeled both a firebug and an idiot. (A good friend makes environmentally conscious wedding dresses out of hemp silk, a gorgeous blend of both fibers, and will work with you on the design, too. If you don't mind spent around a grand or so for a one-of-a-kind, cruelty-free wedding or evening dress that you can wash & wear again--yes, really!--go check out www.consciouselegance.com, and tell her I sent you.)

Robin, I believe marijuana is a member of the hemp family and that they are two different albeit related plants. The THC is extremely low hence the use for for the fibers.

And I too heard that about 80% of men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and recovery rates are good.

I heard the juicing works too.

Here's a link about thc curing cancer

Also, I believe pancreatic cancer is the fasted growing cancer, and there was a study done a few years ago where thc stopped the cancer cell growth, dead in it's tracks in mice. I wrote a paper on it a couple years ago. If I find the time, I'll get the link off my paper.

At his age, he should get to handle this any way he sees fit. It is a choice to go through invasive cures and at a certain point an older person may not think the process is worth the outcome. I hope the remedies he pursues keep him pain and symptom free as long as possible.

OMAMA is BROKO so glad the lady down the road is doing better.
@tamarind Im a huge believer in natural remedies too. I would put him on a gluten, dairy and sugar free diet as well as chetlation therapy and oil pulling. Cancer cells feed on sugar. My dad just recently found out he had kidney cancer (a huge fist sized mass growing within and out his kidney) I took him to my naturopath and he started a gluten, dairy, sugar free diet, along with green juices to alkaline the body. When he went in for surgery the tumor had not grown, had not spread and they were able to remove it all. He is now "cancer free". This cancer grew within the space of a year to that size too so was extremely agressive. Tommy Chong should be looking at alternative therapies as well as current ones. I hope he gets better. Weed might help a bit but I think he should really be looking at diet.

@araida....I'm glad too. I don't get along with many people, but she and I get along swimmingly....and we've even argued before and still our friendship survived. So indeed I happy she is here, for sure.

p.s I totally agree about diet. And I am so happy that your dad is cancer free. We all have the control (that's the secret they don't want you to know). But there really isn't any money to be made for them in it.

Many blessings.

Google "Rick Simpson Oil". There's more and more information out there on the oil. There are chemical components of cannabis that have anti-tumor properties...do check it out -
