Vidal Sassoon Has Died

Vidal Sassoon, whose mother had a premonition that he would become a hairdresser and steered him to an apprenticeship in a London shop when he was 14, setting him on the path that led to his changing the way women wore and cared for their hair, died on Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 84.

I tried his 3 step product mix when I was a young teen, waaay back. My hair did not look like it did in the commercial. Of course, I still can't do a thing with my hair so it's probably me.

RIP.

The man that revolutionized women's hair care. My friend got to spend some time with him a few years ago and said he was an absolute delight of a human being. I appreciate what he did for hair care. Who knows what this head of hair would look like without the innovations he made. Thank you for good hair days, Mr. Sassoon!

I LOVED the three step product and loved the scent. He really broke the mold with his marketing of haircare products. It seems to me, he had was the first high end hair care products and associated products like mousse, hairspray etc.

when he as 17 (in 1946), he was anti-fascist (well antisemits were on a rose at that time in London) street fighter and hair salon trainee - how badass is that! so, whenever he appeared in a salon with black eye, he would tell clients that he just fell over a hairpin.

I used his products when I was a kid as well...he was so cosmopolitan and elegant in the 70's and helped usher in the age of groovy-do's. I will always think highly of him and appreciate his lifework...

I meant to say - "on a rise", not "on a rose"

Exactly Donner.

Remember how grown up we all felt with his products in our showers as teens?

Yup. Mark me down as a Vidal Sassoon user for years and years. I had forgotten about the three steps!

Me, too (the three step stuff, the feeling like a grown up stuff).

RIP. Thank you for everything!

I love hearing about celebs who are "delightful" people. So thanks for that, @discoflux :-)

Sounds like he had an interesting, long full life.

Showing my age here: "If you don't look good, we don't look good."

RIP

@janele, I think we're all showing our age just by responding to this post!

The last two posters beat me to it...when I heard this, I was trying to remember the tag line from his commercials in the 70's...thanks!

Lol I just remember Mia Farrow cutting her hair in Rosemary's baby and saying it was by Vidal Sassoon

Oh and the tag line that was said before, "if you dont look good, we don't look good" brings back memories

RIP. I had hairdressers in the family, Vidal was a visionary.

It was the way he said the tagline. So European! I love a good Jewish immigrant story.
