Octomom Is On Welfare

Apparently Nadya Suleman is just not making enough money taking naked photos because according to TMZ, the mother of 14 is now receiving welfare every month from the state of California. Octomom gets $2000 a month which does not seem like very much considering the number of mouths she has to feed and the help she has so she must be making some income, just not enough to keep her off welfare. This could have turned out so differently for Nadya. When the octuplets were born, she could have made enough to take care of herself and her kids for life, but I think people were just so turned off by the backstory that she was immediately barred from any of those big money making opportunities. Still, though you would think that TLC and their love of all things multiple would give her a special or something once a year.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I just don't know what this woman was thinking.

Those kids gotta eat. And if her choice is between doing porn and getting foodstamps, then this is definitely the best of the two.

I wonder what kind of job you would have to have to be able to adequately support the 14 (or however many it is) kids that she does have.

Those poor kids.

MISCH said...

This makes me crazy, she goes and has kids she can't afford and then we pay for them, not to mention several of the kids have health issues....and will never be right.
This woman only had the kids for a big payday and that backfired. I hope Social Services is watching closely because she cannot be trusted.

Although the photo burned holes into my eyes, I did see enough to gather that she was quite comfortable posing almost nude. It's not uncommon for women collecting welfare to turn a trick or two or 200. And she can do so in the privacy of her own home.

I wish someone could swoop in and take care of those children. This earth doesn't need more messed up individuals, but I'm afraid that's how they may wind up.

Comma Chaser said...

^ Absolutely agree with MISCH. These kids have no chance at a normal childhood. One or more of them is going to wind up on the 11 o'clock news ten, fifteen years from now. I'm not trying to be funny - it just angers me that this famewhore is potentially siphoning off welfare funds from, say, a single mom with just one kid trying to live within normal, non-famewhore means.

Casey said...

@Nolachickee - that's pretty inflammatory. There are lots of reasons for people to go on welfare, it doesn't automatically mean a woman who does so is going to start turning tricks. And what about men who go on welfare? Do they become prostitutes too?

Your comment is really sexist.

nolachickee said...

@Casey - it's called snark. Lighten up. I said it to be funny. It's fucked up that I even have to explain this to you. If my little joke bothered you that much, maybe this site isn't the right fit for you.

NernersHuman said...

I was on welfare for a year. I can assure you no tricks were turned. VERY happy to be off it though-the looks people would give you even if you were buying basic groceries like cereal, milk and produce were bad enough.

Casey said...

@Nolachickee - Your comment was sexist, and attempting to excuse it by calling it "snark" doesn't make it any better. It's still a mean spirited thing to say.

And please don't throw out the "if you can't handle shit, then maybe this isn't the right site for you" thing either. The problem isn't me, it's what you said.

Del Riser said...

Soooo many poor decisions in this whole story. Nadya has never seemed to be perfectly sound of mind to me.

The doctor who implanted the eggs should not practice medicine.

Nadya will never be able to monetarily care for these kids properly. I shudder to think of the life lessons they learn from mom.

It's just a sad, sad thing all the way around.

Lux Luthor said...

Of course she's on welfare. Ugh. Who didn't see this coming? This bitch is crazy and has no concept of taking responsibility. From day one, it's been all about her and her delusional whims. She has never given one shit about how to take care of the practical details. I'm sure she figured others--the state, her parents, charities, etc.--would step in if she needed it. And they have. And they will. She's disgusting.

Rose said...

@Nola, is there ever really any privacy when you live with kids? ;)

SusanB said...

Enty's right - she lost the big bucks because of the whole backstory. At first people were enthralled with the story until they heard the WHOLE story - I know it turned me off. I don't blame TLC for avoiding this mess. And like all the above, I feel really sorry for the kids.

Pink_Palace said...

Del riser, I think the doctor did lose his lisence recently. I am almost positive. Did anyone else happen to see that in the news?
This woman is a fame whore and mental case. Unfortunately, some people are addicted to having kids and adopting kids to fulfill their own selfish needs.

I like her a million times more than Kate Gosselin. I would probably watch a reality show with Nadya. She comes across as quirky but sadly lacking in confidence.

WednesdayFriday said...

She makes me ill. Her whole story makes me so angry.

Paisley said...

Nadya is crazy. TV producers would be even crazier to work with her. Plus, she's in California which has much stricter rules for filming kids. Filming time would be limited, independent monitors on set to pull the kids out of filming if they decided it was necessary, onset tutors, etc. Most of the reality shows with kids film in states that don't have any rules in place.

Please.

TLC would touch the crazy if she were a right-wing crazy.

Nobody gets a show on TLC who doesn't salute the flag and support Family First.

If OctoMom got her brood to church once a week and allowed TLC to film her dates with fine Xtian men who offered "helmship", she'd be rolling in TLC dough.

I think we should be VERY careful in calling this woman the messed up individual she is AND rightfully feeling pissed off we californians have to pay for her million children at the same time NOT castigating welfare or welfare parents in general.

I feel like when one story comes out about someone abusing the welfare system in the news people have a tendency to run with it and start spouting stuff about social programs being wrong or too abused by the people..etc.

Not saying any of ya'll are doing that here, I just have seen some other news forums about Octomom's welfare situation and this has been a common theme.

Also, for what it's worth, I too thought the comment about welfare moms turning tricks was sexist. The way the comment was worded DID NOT read snark, the tone read more as matter of factly- so yeah.

According to Suze Orman, Nadya did make enough money in the beginning to support herself and those kids, all the way through college. That was one of the last episodes of Oprah and it was gripping. I've never seen Orman so frustrated with a human being. She finally gave up because Nadya's denial and lack of cooperation was ginormous. She just would not do a single thing Suze asked her to do and would try to solve all of her problems by going out for an expensive mani/pedi for herself so she could 'think clearly'. That episode made it very clear to me that Nadya's brain does not work in a very normal way. She needs a guardianship, just like Britney Spears, but there is no one in her life with the ability to handle the mess that she has made.

Lafawnduh said...

Casey, lay off Nolachicee and think about stepping off your high horse this Nadya has admitted to being a stripper "for just one day" but the Enquirer found her driver, w2 and another stripper that did bachelor/priv parties for 2 years! I've known strippers and the moral code is very blurry. I think "dating for dollaz" wouldn't be too far of a strech.....! She has already been on public assistance for a long time even before the octuplets. She didn't know WIK was a form of assistance. Sexistsmeckist.

Casey said...

@Lafawnduh - My comment was directed to the statement about it not being uncommon for women on welfare to also be turning tricks.

If that doesn't cause an issue for you, that's your problem. And if my stating that I do means I am on a high horse, then so be it.

I would also like to state though, that I am not making any moral judgements on people who do "date for dollaz" either.

Can we please lay off the ad hominem attacks?

In other news, the sky is blue and water is wet.

Del Riser said...

@Snowstorms, thank you for the info, at least part of this mess was fixed.

Mother Campfire said...

Sorry Nola, I too thought that comment about welfare and turning tricks was rather rough. The humor did NOT read through...which is very different than you normally are so you get a total pass from me.

Lafawndah - Nola can take care of herself, trust! Let's not get personal, k?

I think it's just a sad state all around. There are so many folks who have been working this entire time and didn't make a HORRIBLE decision like her, and they can't get assistance like she can. Sucks.

car54 said...

she was on Anderson Cooper not live --by skype or something like that- and she said she has not had nannies or paid help for over a year.

I can't imagine 14 kids--most of them preschool by herself every single day. Her house is in forclosure and they have to move soon.

My impression is she did the semi-nude pictures and tried to do the online thing -- in trying to take Suze Orman's advice to take any opportunity that she could to support her kids. At this point in her messy life--she is probably way past getting any really profitable deals--and she isn't savvy enough to make her own opportunities like that hustler Kate Gosselin--who is working any angle she can think of to keep money coming in.

I thought she seemed more calm than she was on Oprah when she was on Anderson this week. I don't begrudge her the $2000 if it goes to feeding and taking care of the kids--that is not much for a family like that to live on.

Glitter said...

I read somewhere that all her kids were in private school. WTF? A commentator I listened to suggested the doctor who was responsible should be paying for her kids' upkeep.

nolachickee said...

@Casey - I see your point. I really was making fun of Nadya - I was not directing my comment at anyone else. I think she is awful, and I wish I could take those children.

I myself was on gov't assistance after Hurricane Katrina. It was not a good time in my life. I respect anyone who needs help and gets help.

Casey said...

@Nola - I'm no fan of hers either, and also feel for those kids. You could see this outcome from one hundred miles away, as I said earlier, I can't even imagine what kind of job you would have to have to be able to support that many children

My apologies to you if I was to harsh in my replies.

I feel for you on the Hurricane Katrina issue, the reaction after the hurricane was almost a worse disaster than the storm itself.

I hope things are better for you now.

As a Californian, I am beyond pissed about this broad. She is the poster child of why the government and courts have to get involved in our reproductive decisions.

Henriette said...

To add further, how many houses have gone into foreclosure?

She was on welfare when she HAD those kids! She was on Medical, which tax payers pay for. She should never have been allowed to implant all those eggs.

It boggles my mind that Whitney Houston couldn't have a face lift due to medical issues, but some pion "doctor" implanted all those eggs into this nut. Why are these "reproduction" specialists not regulated?

I think the state of California should sue that doctor. California sues deadbeat dads when they find them and their kids were on welfare. There is no statute of limitations on doing that.

California sued my father after 34 years, since my mother was on welfare with me, and he lied. He lost his property AND so did his wife, since he was married when he got my mother pregnant. California don't mess around about their money.

Marie said...

If she was on assistance, how the heck could she even afford a fertility doctor? They definitely don't come cheap

tracynator said...

The doctor responsible for implanting Octomom did lose his license. She obviously has some serious mental health issues. It's unfortunate that those kids are going to pay a price for her terrible choices.

Jenn719 said...

I read that because she has a family of 15, that they are eligible for public assistance if they make less than $119,000 a year.

sueli said...

I thought she was on welfare before she had the kids? It doesn't surprise me she is on it now. She was probably never off of it. The woman knows how to work the system.

hothotheat said...

@marie - She had come into a large sum of money via a lawsuit. She used that for the fertility treatments.

Any money she gets goes to what she wants first, then she feeds those kids.

Sherry said...

Did this woman not have a job before she had all these chirrens? How many times have we heard about her house going into forclosure or dem babies not having enough? Seriously? I think she is playing all of us. Something is NQR here. Did she have kids in hopes of having fame? Seems to me she saw all these women having multiples with a TV show and saw a shot at fame. Hell woman, you want money? Fucking sue Lifetime TV.

Henriette said...

This nut job was ALWAYS on welfare! The state of California has been paying all the way! She was on welfare for her first six kids THEN she got implanted with some more. My blood pressure is going through the roof.

Sue Ellen Mishkey said...

I thought she had a Masters? You can't get a good job with a Masters? Uh huh.

hothotheat said...

She doesn't want a job, she wants to be famous. She also told Oprah she "just wanted women to like her", which I found odd. She wouldn't take Suzy's financial advise because in her head, if she was famous she wouldn't need to worry about money.

crila16 said...

$2000 a month??? That's not even enough money for 1 person, unless you live in hickville somewhere. Just wait til the kids hit their teens and they eat her out of house and home...and need clothes for school. It's the kids I feel sorry for, not Octomom.
