Griffin O'Neal Gets 16 Months In Prison

Last August, Griffin O'Neal claims he broke what was 5 years of sobriety when he drunkenly crashed his car into another vehicle which injured the other driver. He was arrested and charged with a bunch of things but only ended up pleading guilty to two felony charges. One was felony drinking and the other was possessing a firearm which, as a convicted felon is a no no. Gone were all the other drug charges and Griffin was stopped with enough drugs and prescription medications to help Lindsay Lohan through a couple of weeks of her life. Griffin missed the original sentencing hearing last month because he was in rehab. 16 months in jail. Too bad for him it happened in San Diego. If it had been Los Angeles and he was sentenced on Friday he would probably already be home with sentence served.

This kid is a train wreck, from a highly disfunctional family. He never had much of a chance and now he seems to have blown the one he did have. If he was ever clean.

It's sad, but he's like any other sad case I read about in the morning paper. I care, but I don't care.

I feel nothing but sadness for griffin. not fun to have a dad like ryan. and his mother dead. he really never had a chance.

He's been drug-addled since he was a young boy. It's unfortunate but with narcissist, alcoholic, drug using dad like Ryan,he was always going to struggle. Tatum was going to discos at 10. Let's hope that this time is his to get well. Too bad he does not have money so she could go to some rehab jail like Redmond.

Didn't he have a boating accident that resulted in Francis Ford Coppola son getting cut in half?

@maggs - Coppola was killed in a speedboating accident in May 1986 at the age of 22 in Annapolis, Maryland. Griffin O'Neal, who was piloting the boat, had attempted to pass between two slow-moving boats, failing to realize in his haste that both boats were connected by a towline. While O'Neal barely had time to duck, Coppola was struck and killed.[1] At the time of the incident, O'Neal was being directed by Francis Ford Coppola in Gardens of Stone and was subsequently replaced. O'Neal was later charged with manslaughter over the accident. He ultimately pled guilty to the lesser charge of "negligent operation of a boat", was fined $200 and sentenced to 18 months probation in 1987. He eventually received an 18-day jail sentence for not performing 400 hours of community service as ordered.

Wow, he c/wouldn't even perform the community service order.

Getting out of the drug lifestyle and getting drugs out of your life are very difficult things to do. The stimulant drugs are particularly hideous, since you can detox and be clean for weeks or months -- and then something triggers the urge, and if you don't have strong coping skills, you're a goner. Coke and meth freaks are facing a very difficult struggle. The only way is to give up self-will and hand control over to something else, either other people or the proverbial "higher power" thing. Samuel Taylor Coleridge, one of the first high-profile addicts in Western culture, had to live in a doctor's house for the second half of his life. It was the only way he could be sure that he wouldn't "use" again, by having the doctor go through his things every day to search for drugs. Some people need to be monitored 24/7.

I find it sad, but also fitting. He's literally gotten away with murder, and can't seem to clean up his act. I doubt that prison is going to help but nothing else has so far. At least he won't be in public anymore. Good luck, dude.

I have to say---he didn't deliberately murder FFC's son. And if I did something like that--accidentally or on purpose--I don't think I would ever be able to get over it. I'd have a hard time not turning to drugs, just to forget the awful thing I did.

Gladys, seriously. I don't think I could ever get over accidentally killing my friend either. Or anyone.

I happen to know a relative of this family, and he is such a nice man. He dabbled a lot in drugs too. This whole family is just so messed up.

ITA with Barton Fink.

I was on Meth for 5-7 wasted years. I am off it now, but pretty much replaced that addiction with food and alcohol..
If it was put in front of me right now I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm lucky I have good people around me now.

I don't have any sympathy for him. He could've killed the guy in the other car as well. I have sympathy for addicts and alcoholics, as long as they don't drive and put other people's lives at risk.

No one that Ryan O'Neil spawned ever had a chance. I don't see how any of those kids could have had a normal life.

I am sorry to say that I don't have any sympathy for any of the O'Neal family. They do their thing than they want sympathy and come out with lame excuses.

I am sorry for both kids from Ryan and Joanna. Their upbringing was screwed up from the get go.

Congrats Icecat for getting off the meth.

I completely agree with you Mooshki. It's also a shame he wasn't more famous or had a last name like Lohan. Then he'd get off with a slap on the wrist.

The accident with Francis Ford Coppolas son was not with Farrahs son, but the son he has with his first wife.....
