Selena Gomez has canceled her weekend concerts to be with her mother who suffered a miscarriage. Just last month, Selena announced to the world that she was going to be big sister and was the happiest girl in the world. I am glad to see that she decided that family was way more important than playing the concerts this weekend. I'm sure her mom loves her being home with her.

Is anyone else weirded out by the fact that a pop star's mom's personal medical tragedy made the national news?
Very sad but @trollslayer I agree. I'm pregnant and G*d forbid if anything happened but if it did, I would find it hard to tell my closest friends, much less the entire world. The only good that I think comes from so many celebrities sharing such a private thing is that women who do suffer from miscarriages may get a tiny bit of comfort in knowing that they are horribly common and nothing to be ashamed of.

Her mom had Selena when she was very young (16?), which is why she looks so young.

Forgoing those concerts to be there for her mom was the right thing to do. She's a good kid.

I don't know. They are in the public eye so something like this will be made public. I agree with Krystal. If miscarriages are in the news more, women will know they aren't alone.
It's public because they made it public. There was an announcement from Selena along with a photo of her mom & stepdad(?) complete with hands-on-belly pose. If you don't want the world to know about your pregnancy, don't tell everyone. It's quite simple, actually. I'm very sad for Selena & her family.
And wasn't her mom pretty far along too? So sad to hear but it is nice that Selena thinks faily is more important. I wish them all well.
