Etta James Is Terminally Ill

I'm sure there are lots of you who have never heard the name Etta James. That is kind of a shame because the woman has made some of the best records ever and has one of the best voices I have veer heard. She has been suffering from dementia for a few years and her family has been bickering for that long about who should be in charge of her money which is kind of sad because I think they care way more about that than her at this point. Her doctor says she is terminally ill. A little love for Ms. James below.

So sad. All the best are leaving us way too soon.

Enty and Vicki,

It may be too late for Ms. James.

CLL has been incurable and can become untreatable. After 10 years it was just those for me and I was dying.

I became better than lucky: the hematologist who developed the PCI32765 trial took me on as a patient.

The protocol is not just gloriously potent: it's also harmless -- three to six capsules daily of a BTK inhibitor which kills all lymphocytes in the nodes, the bloodstream and even the bone marrow. And what isn't killed becomes firmly contained and controlled.

This protocol is remarkable: it is just as effective with all B cell cancers and has been embraced by the National Cancer Institute and taken on a partner in Johnson & Johnson.

If anyone here knows anyone with a B cell cancer, this trial is active around the country.

It truly is worth seeking.

Very sad news indeed. Assuming everyone knows "At Last", may I recommend her live album _Bringin' Down The House_, which came out about ten years ago (and also features a live version of her signature song). Excellent recording with a lot of banter to/from the audience. That's how she was when I saw her perform in the 90s, and how I'd like to remember her.

This makes me sad, however.

For my fellow 80s and 90s kids--get with the fucking program and get into this woman's unblievable music now.

Here is one of my favorites...

Chime what is CLL? Is that the same as dementia?

I can't believe people don't know who Etta James is, or don't at least know the song At Last.

CLL is (literally) chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Despite that name (which ain't new) it is a lymphoma.

Not too many know about it yet it is the most prevalent lymphoma. Like more than a few variants on blood based cancers the improvements in genetic diagnosis have made these more identifiable.

For decades CLL was known as a cancer of the elderly to be treated mainly on a watch-and-wait basis. With that it was called more than a little stupidly "the good cancer".

All of the was untrue.

The protocol I mentioned is remarkable. While journalists like to go on about vaccine-based cancer treatments in development, they really have not been that successful.

The BTK-inhibitors (like Gleevec for the distinct lymphoma called CML) are more than just valid: these really help people and even aid in the restoration of immune system function which both the cancer and sadly much of the usual treatments do such damage.

Now I understand why Beyonce did At Last and not Etta at Obama's inaugration ball. And why Etta lashed out the way she did. Classy for Beyonce to say nothing, it was Etta's illness talking.

Jason Mraz does a good rendition on his Live at Java Joe's album.

I don't think the younger readers realize the character beyonce played in Cadillac Records was Miss Etta James. She was born into a hard life & it never really got easier as it went along.

Great fun to see Wolfman Jack introducing her in this clip. It's a shame most have no idea who he really is either..

Love Etta! I saw her in Detroit about 5 years ago. Front row seats. Amazing. Anyone read her biography? It's called Rage to Survive. It's quite fascinating...and a little disturbing. She was pretty rough on her body.

I am surprised that no one, including ENTY commented about her doctor making a public announcement. Was that necessary? Ethical?

This is sad. Etta has/had amazing talent. May she be pain-free during this. And yes, G, I wondered about that when I read the news. Whomever has her power of attorney must have given consent for the physician to make that statement, or he was in violation of HIPA laws. One or the other.
