Sister Wives Breaking Up?
Have you been watching Sister Wives this season? For whatever reason, I have been in front of the television each week that it has been on this season and I get the feeling the group is not going to last much longer. Yes, I know Robyn just had a baby and the birth will be shown on the season finale, but I am not sure there will be another season to the show. I think all of this came about for a couple of reasons. Number one is Kody wanted another wife to spice things up. Number two is that moving to Las Vegas was one of the worst decisions ever. Prior to moving and prior to Kody getting another wife, everyone lived in one house and all the lives were one. Now though, the rest of the family is trying to integrate another wife and children into the existing group while all living separately. The bonds that were there have broken. There have been too many life changes and each family is basically living their own live under separate roofs. I think the only reason they are still together now is because of the show. No one wants to walk away from the money the show pays, especially when everyone is out of work. Once the show ends, and maybe even before, I think some of the wives will end up moving back to Utah with their kids.

I really like the wives except for Robyn who annoys me. Kody is a jerk as well. You can tell all the kids are miserable. I feel bad for them, because they have no say. And what was with Robyn sending her kid to live with Meri?
The one that bugs me is Christine. I met Kody and Meri at NYNY in Vegas. He is such a tool. She is very nice though. He had creepy eyes. His main priority now seems to be Robyn.
I don't like Christine either. She seems like the type to be a smug bitch and I hate that. Smug people make me crazy.
I feel the worst for Meri. She's the one who appears to love Kody the most and I think this lifestyle kills her.
Just look at the picture. There's Kody with Robyn, and the other three wives, including the only legal one, off in another cluster. I like the original three wives but not Kody or Robyn. Poor kids.
That show makes me sick. I will not watch it.
TLC simply loves to screw with family dynamics and then watch the explosion.
One of the daughters made some mention of the fact that they were kicked out of Utah, and most of those teens are really pissed off. I feel awful for them having to change schools.
I'm trying to understand Mormon math. If the guys get to have 3 or 4 or more wives, at some point doesn't that mean that there aren't any wives left for a big chunk of the male Mormon population? How exactly does that work I wonder...
I thought they fled Utah since they were afraid of being arrested for the whole mutliple wives situation. But turns out they were never under investigation.
Vegas offered better security legally wise of their lifestyle.
I dont watch these shows either. It is just exploitive and never ends well in the long run.
I think Meri wanted out & saw Robyn as her replacement. I think that's why the two of them seem to get along well. I think once Meri's daughter turns 18, she's out of there. Janelle & Christine seem to have a very strong bond, and I think they overpowered Meri prior to Robyn. I agree, it doesn't seem like the current arrangement will be around for long, but the TLC money might persuade them to stick together longer than they'd like. I would assume it's a powerful incentive for four families that are not seriously employed. (I don't count learning real estate as a job...not until they are true realtors who actually sell homes.)
@Sherry all you have to do is look at the FLDS comounds to have that question answered. That's exactly what happens. They start running out of women and the teen boys get kicked out for any reason the leaders can find while the leaders amass as many wives as they want. I grew up in Utah and their are many former polygamous boys wandering around not really knowing what to do with themselves. A lot of them end up in Las Vegas too.

Just to clarify they are NOT Mormon. They split off from the traditional Mormon faith a century ago.
Also, they were never "run out" of Utah. They were under investigation but unless the State of Utah could prove that the kids were being mistreated or they were committing welfare fraud or some other fraud polygamists are always left alone. They were just trying to create some drama by making it seem like they were forced out of Utah. In exchange for fame the kids hate their parents for forcing them away from friends and family. TLC does it again!
I watch this show for 10 minutes when I want get my blood pressure up. Kody's not livin some religious homage, he's a slimmy, narcissitic philanderer in the guise of faith.
I wonder if there is a rule in their bible, like the Koran, pertaining to taking multiple wives, whereby a man must ensure that he can provide for them, without making them work & if a wife so chooses to work, her money is her own? Obviously not with this arrogant, chic collecting dude.
My gaydar was always pinged with him & during that 'highschool reunion' show a friend said they always thought he was gay & way too flamboyant. I think he's trying too hard to prove otherwise.
@ Sherry & London: the Hutterites do the same thing. Kick the boys off the colony, leave them on the streets & fending for themselves at the ripe age of 14. Truly sad.
I think the shine of Kody & the lifestyle has worn off for all the original 3. They have all given snippets of waning enthusiasm in some form or another this season.
They body language & stink eye during the testamonials is also pretty blatant.

Actually, to clarify even further, the current FLDS are living the lifestyle that the ORIGINAL Mormon/LDS Church intended and was established by the LDS prophet and founder Joseph Smith (who himself had many wives). As controversial as it sounds, the FLDS are the traditional mormon church.
The Modern LDS Church is basically the Protestant offshoot of the Original Mormon Church (or how they are called FLDS), that does practice polygamy like was originally intended. If you look back at both their histories, they match up (prophets, teachings, books, lifestyles) until right around Utah officially became a State.
The only reason that the Modern LDS Church does not practice polygamy today is because a prophet received a vision and declared the polygamous lifestyle as sinful.
Coincidently, at that time, Utah was seeking statehood with the rest of the Union and in order to do that they needed to abolish polygamy.
Some people think it's a coincidence, some think it was a vision, some think the abolishment of polygamy was politically influenced, some think the LDS church changes their scriptures and teachings at a whim to gain mainstream and political acceptance. Like in 1972, when the LDS Church finally allowed black men to obtain the priesthood, after receiving negative outside social pressure -- although the church claims the prophet received a well-timed vision regarding that issue too.
It's all about perception, which is strange in itself, because one of the main Modern LDS teachings is the promise of multiple spirit wives in the celestial kingdom to worthy priesthood holders. In the celestial kingdom, the LDS men can be sealed to more than one wife. It's part of the doctrine. It's one of their teachings, yet I don't understand why they deny their history.
Polygamy isn't exclusive to mormon/LDS teachings either. The Muslim religion has been practicing polygamy thousands of years before Joseph Smith was even born or decided to start the LDS church and have multiple wives. One of the main reasons there's never any broo-haha over the muslim polygamous families is that the muslim religion doesn't hide or run from their history or teachings,
There are many polygamous families of many faiths, cultural and sexual backgrounds in the US. I don't see why the Modern Mormon/LDS church runs from acknowledging it as part of their teachings. Really. This lifestyle is thousands of years old.
Bond Girl: Read "Under the Banner of Heaven". As I understand it the LDS made a deal with the US Gov'mt to abolish polygamy to avoid a holy host of other legal ramifications. In fact I encourage everyone to read that book. Very insightful.

Well, it worked way back when the patriarchs could rely on wars to either kill off the "surplus" young men or provide them with the original trophy wives.
BondGirl, the Islam is about *less* than 2 thousand years old, so "thousands of years" is an exaggeration. Muslims do "hide and run" from their history, in the West at least, do you hear a lot of "and then we invaded swept the Northern Africa, killing all those who refused to convert", or "and then we decided to invade Spain", or "we took an army besieged Vienna".

I would think the young men who are kicked out would take care of all this but I guess they are too weak. I spent some time living in Utah and it was just beyond strange.
Isn't that why there is a war now? To kill off the young men? Or at least maim them to the point where they can't work a job??
I can't wait to hear some of these kids speak out some day...or at least I hope they do.
Why is Las Vegas a safe haven? I'm just confused becuase it would seem to me if they really were under investigation crossing state lines wouldn't stop it, would it? I'm Canadian... not that I know how this would work here either, I just know even less about US Laws...
Mormons in Vegas would be an interesting sight! It was like that reality show about Amish teens that was on years ago, I can't remember the name of it!

I've been watching this and yeah, it's falling apart. Totally not surprising and kind of fascinating to witness.
Dishtlk, yep, here in the U.S., crossing state lines pretty much frees you from any pending trouble, unless you're a violent offender. It's dumb.
Dishtlk: There already is a very large number of mormons in LV. They might feel right at home there. Huge number of wards. LV is actually part of the mormon belt, like UT, Idaho,
Wyoming, Northern AZ and San Bernardino in CA.
Tatyana: Ok so 1,000 plus four hundred years. Still at least 1,300 years longer than LDS. But that's not the point. In the Bible (the bible story supposedly starts around 6,000 years ago apparently?), that Abraham, David and Solomon had several wives and those guys seem to be important in Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. My point is that polygamy isn't a new concept and that the LDS try to run around like chickens without a head whenever someone in the media brings polygamy up. The muslim community didn't bat an eyelash when a brazilian soap opera and then a spanish language one depicting modern muslims in a polygamous marriage became popular world-wide. And I mean that sucker was so popular it went GLOBAL on regular broadcast TV, post-2001. In fact, it was lauded as something that depicted the muslim community in a positive light post 9/11.
Compare that with the hub-bub the LDS church made with Big Love came out, which was only shown on HBO.
Not talking about wars here. Just polygamy.
Sherry: I have been meaning to get around to reading that book. I just haven't gotten around to it.
I'm interested to see what will happen when Kody tries to take on a new woman. Robyn seems pretty comfortable being the favourite of the moment.
