Sly Stone Has Checked Into Rehab

When you are 68 years old, I think it takes a lot of courage to go to rehab. It would be really easy at that point to just say forget it, I don't have much time left so why bother. Sly Stone has checked himself into Promises for his addiction to crack. Unlike most celebrities, Sly plans on staying a full 90 days to give himself the best chance of getting and staying sober. I also think he wants to have one last tour around the world and it is tough to do that when you can't let go of the pipe.

For the past year or so, Sly has been living in an RV on a residential street and basically getting supplies from a couple who let him park in front of their place. That is quite the fall. Hopefully this will get him back on his feet.

If you want me to stay
I'll be around today
To be available for you to see
I'm about to go
And then you'll know
For me to stay here I've got to be me...

Best Wishes Sly! I'd love to see you in concert!

I would assume someone stepped up to foot the bill for their place, which is a major expenditure. Props to whoever did that, it was a really kind gesture.

sorry meant to say "that place"

To think, this is a guy who was married in Madison Square Garden in 1974 with 21,000 people in attendance.

Good for him, and best of luck.

To speak bluntly, Sly Stone has been off his feet for four decades. The guy was a genius but has been unable to release even a decent new song since "High On You" in 1975. As early as 1970, he started to miss most of the shows in which he was supposed to appear or just dropped into them for a couple of songs.
He's been one of the biggest surviving casualties of rock 'n roll with Rory Erickson, Brian Wilson, Syd Barrett and Arthur Lee. A few of them were able to start recording and creating again, a few of them lived in seclusion.
I just hope he finds some kind of peace and a decent life. But a world tour? It wouldn't be the best thing for him.

Good luck to Sly. Hope he gets the help he needs. I remember watching him on the Grammys a few years ago and he seemed so shy and frail. I'm sure drugs had something to do with that. Maybe rehab will be just what the doctor ordered.

Good luck to him. Very courageous and I genuinely hope he succeeds.

I've loved Sly since I was practically a tot and hope he finally overcomes his addictions. He's had serious drug problems for decades now, but he's still alive and kicking, and I'm glad. I'm hoping he can drop his heavy burden once and for all and continue living a better life.

See my reference to Cleckley in the above post regarding Madonna's brother. This just goes so way beyond bacon eating in the basement!

If the Michael Jackson estate had some compassion they would reverse the song rights Michael bought from him for a woeful pitifull amount of 1 million.

Give the man his songs back and let him get an income from them.
