No More Lone Ranger
$250M is what the budget for The Lone Ranger was up to. That is a ton of money for an unproven franchise. Sure, those of us who are over a certain age can probably remember the television show, but that is it, and that was a long time ago. So, instead of moving on with uncertainty, the plug was pulled on the movie. Oh, Johnny Depp will still get paid but at least Disney managed to cut its losses. I don't know why it needed to be $250M, I think this movie would work as a much smaller picture. Make it more art house and less a Disney ride.
Was anyone like oh I cannot wait to see this movie? I don't think I would have ever rushed to see it in the movies. I probably would have eventually watched it on DVD, but it was not going to get me to spend $50. $15 ticket plus $35 in booze.

Can Hollywood not come up with one original idea for a movie anymore? I'm sick of crappy remakes of so-so TV series. And don't get me started on the Dirty Dancing remake. If Hollywood could actually come up with something interesting and original that didn't need billions of dollars in special effects people like me would actually start going to the movies instead of waiting for it to be on cable. The last remotely original movie I went to was The King's Speech.

JD was supposed to be Tonto. Whoever played the twins in The Social Network was tapped to be the Lone Ranger.

I saw a tv spot on the remake of Footloose and I got so p*ssed off.
I screamed "NOOOOOOOOO!" at the tv! LOL. I surprised myself! Stop messing with old movies/Tv and make some new stuff!

All I can think of right now are "The Lone Rangers". From Airheads.
Apparently there were CG spirits or werewolves that was pushing the budget higher than Disney wanted. Variety also reported that Disney still wants to get it made if the budget can get to under $200 million.
I think the concept for the movie sounded interesting, but there is no way in hell it deserved a budget that high.
the movie isn't dead but after Cowboys & Aliens not performing so well the studio got spooked. Plus Depp, Bruckheimer and Berbinski want a chunk of change and it blew up the budget.

A quarter of a billion dollars below the line before principal starts? That's insane in this economy.
What the hell is the Mouse thinking, you don't need Brucken-flogger glomming up the project. When I read "Depp", "Verbinski", "Bruckenheimer" and "budget woes" in one industry article I assume "Instant Ishtar."
Pay the actual talent, Mouse. Depp is box-office bankable, can't argue with that. Verbinski actually makes the magic. Bruckenheimer is nothing but a middle man. Tell him to go take a shit on Sunset and use one-fifth of his money to hire a good DP and re-write man.
