Jani Lane Has Died

Jani Lane, the former lead singer of the metal rock band Warrant, has died in Los Angeles. He was 47.

Officer Sara Faden says Lane's body was found Thursday in a Woodland Hills hotel. She had no immediate information on the cause or circumstances of his death.

He joined Warrant in 1984 and wrote such hits as "Heaven," ''Down Boys" and "Cherry Pie."

He left behind two daughters. This is one of those cases where you could see it coming. Jani just could never get quite right and was always slipping. He kept trying until the end, but it just was not meant to be.

I always hope people can turn their lives around and until I hear different, I won't assume that Jani didn't turn his around. RIP Jani, you were definitely a character.

I guess he's where the down boys go now. I couldn't stand Warrant back in the day, but I feel bad for his family. I know he struggled. Poor thing, dying in a shitty motel on Ventura Blvd.

Agreed with the Grape. That era/genre produced a ton of crappy bands amidst _maybe_ 1 or 2 good ones.

That aside, I feel for the family, man. They don't even get a chance to grieve/process the way their dad passed on without everybody weighing in on how tacky his live act was.

Agree with La Grape, too -- although I liked Warrant back in the day. ;-) What? I was about nine or some shit.

I agree too, not like he was an impact on music, but someone dying that way and leaving a family behind is always sad.

RIP Jani. I loved Warrant's music, "Heaven," "Down Boys," "I Saw Red," "Uncle Tom's Cabin" ....

Way too young to die.

I forgot Uncle Tom's Cabin! That was a good song! I loved all the hair bands back in the day.

So sorry for his family.

Sometimes it's the years of drug abuse that catch up and destroy a body. It doesn't need to be an OD.

Jani was a very talented drummer and athlete; he was also a very nice person.
Dog Eat Dog is an awesome record. I loved Warrant, (the collection of posters I had was odd and epic, everything from Hitchcock movies, Rolling Stone covers, Star Wars, posters of Warrant and Dokken album covers) I'm sorry to hear this news. His poor kids. Rock on Jani.

Wow,so sad! Back when I was a pre-teen, I watched MTV like 20 hours a day. I loved Hip-Hop, but when Cherry Pie came on. I went wild & turn it up high! I still love that song and video.

RIP Jani.

And addiction took another life. I pray to God that my husband is able to kick his demons once and for all. He's been in rehab for 12 days now. But sadly I don't hold a lot of hope.

RIP Lani

@-New Life-- Wishing you and your husband the best of luck. I have had family members quit. It can happen.

When you're driving to work in the morning and you're hung over and hating life because you need several more hours sleep, there are a few songs that will pep you up. Cherry Pie is one of them. Pure fromage. I love it.

I hope all users are paying attention to all the losses to booze and drugs. Is it really worth it?
If not for your sake, do it for your families and the ones that love you!
RIP Mr. Lane.
