No More Celebrity Rehab

If you are watching the current season of Celebrity Rehab you should make it last awhile, because there probably will not be any more seasons of the show. Probably a good thing. I tried to watch the first couple episodes and was trying to process the fact that Michael Lohan and Dr. Drew appear to be friends and that if you do enough heroin in your life, it is very tough to understand a word you are saying. Yes, I am talking to you Steven Adler. Do not even get me started on Bai Ling. This was probably not the best career move she ever made. Prior to the show people thought she was kooky which is good and still gets you roles and work. She does not come across well on the show at all.

Apparently the show will be no more because Dr. Drew has got some higher paying gigs coming his way so will leave the D listers and their problems to therapists who won't televise everything. If Dr. Drew crashes and burns on his other shows though he will be back to helping them.

I think Steven Adler's face is partially paralyzed due to a stroke, that's why it's hard to understand him. Yes, the stroke was probably due to drugs, but still.

The show is just awful. It's a good thing that it's not coming back...

never liked Dr. Drew and what he spews... he doesn't seem sincere in his quest to help people who are suffering from alcoholism and drug abuse... I watched it once and it was one too many times...

Watched him on HLN last week - what a pretentious fop.

i know i'm going against the grain here...but i don't mind dr. drew. actually, i kinda like him. i don't get the arrogant /fame-whore vibe from him...i do tho, understand where many see him as such...he's the first to get called for an opinion on celebs and their duis/addictions/etc...so of course it looks like he's the one jumping in and offering the opinion w/ no solicitation...but if you know the inner-workings of media and pr, you know this isn't the case...it's all manipulated and by design.

and good for him for calling it a day...you really gotta know when to fold 'em...nothing wrong w/ taking a higher=paying gig.

Some people are broke and can't be fixed. The brain damage that's done by drugs can be irreversible without a doubt. Adler is a prime example. What society is supposed to do with these people is another topic entirely. I can't take these shows too seriously but there is some good to be offered. Sadly the good is hard to dig out due to all the drama that plays so well for TV. Certainly makes me glad I cancelled cable. I will never go back!

when you get down to z-list reality stars its hard to call it celebrity rehab.

I think Dr. Drew in his own way is trying to help. I don't hate on him.

I still somehow like Dr. Drew, but I definitely think it is time the show was given the ax. It is not a situation that sobriety will be achieved in... My only regret is that I can't watch Kari Ann Peniche be a total bitch to everyone. She is a piece of work!

I like the Celebrity rehab Dr. Drew but hate the other one. The Headline News Dr. Drew - the one that's buddies with Michael Lohan - the one that gives his opinions on Charlie Sheen. But c'mon if it came down to Drew or "Dr" Phil who would you all go with.

I'm so compelled by Bai Ling. 13 years ago she was on the cusp of stardom. Big movie roles with Richard Gere, Jodie Foster and Will Smith - dating Chris Isaak and now she's on Celeb Rehab. I genuinely feel bad and am concerned about her.

I've disliked this man ever since I heard him tell a teenage girl that it was her fault/responsibility her teacher was having sex with her. The teacher was also female and I've always suspected if the teacher had been a guy, Dr. Pinsky would never, ever have blamed the victim.

It's just as well, his reputation has tanked from this show. I always loved him on loveline when Adam Corolla was the co-host. He is actually very smart and well educated in the area of addiction. I can understand why people don't like him but I do. It's not really his place when he talks about the Lindsays of the world but be is usually right and I can't stand her so if she is annoyed by him it makes me like him a little bit more.

I like him. Grew up with Loveline. I think he's trying to do good work in a really effed up media world. The one thing I don't get on Celebrity Rehab is why he doesn't address everyone's Narcissism and fame addictions.

Jason, Bai Ling breaks my heart! I feel so bad for her living through that childhood trauma...

I like Dr. Drew and I love the show and I'll be really sad when it goes off the air. As Pookie said, though, it's good to know when to fold them. When the "celebrities" are people who were on one episode of Survivor, I think we're not talking about the fifteen minutes of fame but more like four minutes.

But the people who have been on the show have taught me as much about D List celebrities as Michael K. does. Kari Ann! Bai Ling! Who could forget Heidi Fleiss and her birds? Chyna! Shifty! The show is full of people who infuriate me and others who break my heart. It makes me want to go out and hoover some coke in honor of the show's passing--but since I don't really do drugs, I think I'll just have some Diet Dr. Pepper in honor of the doctor instead.

Gladys, I'll virtually pour out a Diet Dr. Pepper with you.

It's a good thing I don't have money, because I bet cocaine would be my drug of choice. Instead it's just diet colas.

I love Dr Drew. He maintains a certain professional distance from the clients and he walks them toward whatever treatment he believes they need. Is it ethical to televise someone's treatment? Well, that's the biggest problem here, but he is treating extreme narcissists who live to dramatize their lives on the largest scale possible. It might be useful for these people to put their substance abuse problems on the record, so that they can't sweep it under the rug later. A&E has televised addicts and interventions with so-so results. As for Dr Pinsky's motives or perceptions that he loves attention, I gotta ask, Have you ever met a doctor? They're often arrogant divas. The training requires it.

As for the show, I'm glad it's going off the air. I do not want to be made to feel empathy for Michael Lohan. I do not want to feel empathy for Amy Fischer. I do not like seeing Bai Ling crying. It's been a horrible fifth season. (I can't wait for the next episode.)
