Best Commuter Train Video?

This might not be the best commuter train video ever, the Star Wars one was a little better, but it is the best use of do you know who I am by a person not named Jennifer Lopez. Apparently education makes you better than everyone else as this woman is happy to to point out to anyone who will listen.

Just because you're educated doesn't mean you're not ignorant.

@Maja -- tee hee!!! ;-)

@Rocket -- TRUTH. And actually, some of the smartest and most creative people I've ever met never actually graduated college. Education really is what you make of it. I think tons of travel, exposure to all kinds of people, and curiosity about the world at large are just as important as innate book smarts when it comes to intelligence.

If you know you're smart and educated, you probably don't feel the need to point it out. Your words and actions should speak for themselves.

But I don't have a degree so I don't know anythin' 'bout that! *LOL*

i have to say, this attitude the commuter has TOTALLY reminds me of my sister. she is very well educated, makes alot of money, but she is a social degenerate with a serious sense of entitlement (i do love her though, i'm just not blind!). she is so embarrassing to go places with sometimes! even i, the lowly school bus driver, knows how to behave better!

Now Lindsay and her pals have another excuse to continue their ignorance.

Wow! I wish my commuter train was like that.

Girlfriend needs a serious attitude adjustment.

The security lady who is working for the train needs a gold medal. She handled that really well.

what the heck started this altercation?

Bwhahah. was this shot on the Canada Line?

nah, this was Metro North to the suburbs of CT.

Best of all, she went to NYU. Not a bad school but not tier 1. Her name is all over, so a quick google will locate her info.

Shit like this is what gets the bar cars closed.

I know it sounds petty but these NYC trains really do drive a person crazy. You are tired and just trying to get home and some ticket puncher who think they are "conductors" becuase they wear a hat. They can easily push your buttons with some bullshit.

I take the Long Island Rail Road every day and I have seen people go nuts.

Right now I am sitting at my desk beucase of a little rain the LIRR trains can't run. I'm tired and pissed off and have no way to get home.

I know the woman was obnoxious but it doesn't tell the story of why she is pissed so it is hard to say what the beef is about.

sincerely,

one frustrated commuter.

Timebob---I love Long Island!* It's my idea of the perfect location.....you get 4 seasons, the ocean is never more than 15 minutes away, and the greatest city on Earth is one LIRR ticket away. I am a Broadway fan too...stuck in Indianapolis.
ARGHHHH I'm so jealous of you!

I stayed in Ronkonkoma of all places for 3 weeks once, what city are you in?

Hey - I was born and raised in Ronkonkoma!

Used to take Metro North on the Hudson Line - the conductors were fine, but there were some passengers who made me want to open a vein. The ones with the loud cell phone calls with all of their personal details were the worst. I am glad this conductor called this stupid woman out. She reminds me of a horrible assistant I inherited who tried to tell me that she was not answerable to me for her bad on-the-job behavior. People like this just blow my mind. They get what they deserve somewhere along the line, though, I have seen time and time again.

PotPourri said...

So she has book smarts, but no common sense. Welcome to the Gen Y
ers.

well 4 hours later I am home.

@Libby I am in Port Washington area and take the Port Washington line and work in NYC (midtown).

I wouldn't be so quick to pick sides on this one either, these 2 just rubbed each other the wrong way, that happens sometimes and it's no-ones fault.

train-rage is a lot similar to air-rage or car-rage.

You just snap sometimes after being forced to hear someone's cell phone conversation about what to eat for f'n dinner for 30 minutes.

The person who originally uploaded the video to Youtube (who has since removed it) said in the description that the woman "was talking too loud on the train when the conductor politely asked her to keep it down and stop using profanity or to take it to the vestibule."

After the altercation, the conductor came on the loudspeaker and reminded people to keep conversations quiet, "especially those people who went to Harvard or Yale or are from Westport."

HAHAHA

I'll be just fine with my education and common sense. I'd worry about myself if I were you.

reticulation said...

No, she shouldn't have used the education card. But the video makes it look like the train lady is also trying to seem extra important with the "don't touch me". She accidentally brushed her arm! Give me a break. The NYC trains are full of all kinds of bad behavior. How is someone saying the F word that horrible?

altar boy said...

@Jamie's Girl - not all Gen Yers are bad. There are self-absorbed brats of every age and nice people of every age too!

Meg said...

@Maja - HA! ;)

The video has been yanked. I can't find it online. Anyone have a new link?

Meg said...

Found it. Pretty funny. I don't care if she dropped the F bomb or not, but loud talking cell phone users in public places are annoying as hell. I don't care if you are on the phone but not everyone wants to hear your conversation.

I took a 10 hour train to DC a few years ago and was about to lose my shit on this young girl who stayed on her cell phone LOUDLY almost the ENTIRE trip (which started at 11pm).

P.S. What does her education have to do with anything?????

On the conductor "overreacting" to being "touched" -- the passenger was behaving inappropriately in a public setting for an extended period. I'm pretty sure it's a felony to assault an MTA/Metro North conductor or driver, and someone unstable in that setting can turn violent in a split second. IMO the conductor made the correct choices in handling this passenger. Also there was the possible racism component; someone with this passenger's sense of entitlement may have resented being corrected or limited in any way by a person of color. It happens, esp. in the NYC-area. And NYU? *really*? Yikes. Loved the "edjumacated" comment, btw!
