George Steinbrenner - RIP

It has been a rough week for The Yankees. First they lost their legendary PA announcer and this morning they lost their long time owner George Steinbrenner who suffered a heart attack at the age of 80. Even if you do not know exactly who Steinbrenner is, or how he shaped and controlled the Yankees for almost 40 years, if you watched Seinfeld, you got to see him parodied several times. Larry David was actually Steinbrenner in the show which is interesting since it was George who most often spoke to Larry (aka the real George who was playing a George.) Now I am confused. Anyway, here are all the George Steinbrenner appearances on Seinfeld.

Part One

Part Two

thanks for the clips. i'm old so i remember steinbrenner from the old days. but i'm not a baseball fan at all so i don't remember him for that. my fondest memories of him aren't even of HIM----they are these episodes and the scenes with george. so funny!

Hope the Yanks boys do well at tonight's All-Star game. RIP Mr Steinbrenner. I just know you're in heaven firing Billy Martin right now.

There is something poetic in Bob Shepherd preceding him by just a few days..."voice of God" indeed. The Boss wouldn't go anywhere without a proper intro! I saw a comment on Gawker.com this morning that said "He's probably already ordered Jesus to get a haircut and lose the beard." It made me laugh out loud. I am by no means a Yankee fan, but I am a baseball fan. It's the closest thing I have to a true religion. Steinbrenner's impact - both the mistakes and the successes - will never be matched again I don't think. He really was one of a kind. RIP Boss. Try and take it easy now.

And I felt bad for immediately thinking of Seinfeld when I heard the news about Steinbrenner this morning.

Good to know I'm not the only twisted one.

Seinfeld immortalized him, though he was sort of immortalized before that - but not to people who aren't into sports (like myself). I'm so sad to read this!
