John Krasinski As Captain America

Marvel is screen testing several actors for the role of Captain America. One of those actors is John Krasinski. Look, I like John in The Office. He plays the character well and he is also good as sad sack lovelorn characters in movies. I don't see him as Captain America. I actually think if they are going to go in a Krasinski direction that they might as well give Rowan Atkinson a screen test too because at least Mr. Bean as Captain America would be funny in a good way and not funny as in I'm laughing at them casting John as Captain America.

  1. I'm giggling like a schoolgirl, envisioning Mr. Bean in a Captain America costume.

Oh, come on! At least Krasinski would be more interesting than another square-jawed, bland as bland can be actor like Sam Worthington or the guy who played Kirk in Star Trek (the one who's so boring I can't remember his damn name.)
Remember how everyone thought Toby Maguire wouldn't be able to carry Spiderman?
    Just saying.

  5. I find John Krasinski boring. He would not make a good Captain America. Mr. Bean on the other hand would be AWESOME!

  6. Actually, he might not be bad. Sometimes the least expected actors make the best onscreen superheroes (Tobey Maguire, Robert Downey Jr., Christian Bale). He's got the height and he'd just need to bulk up a bit. I don't think it's that ludicrous.

The other actors being mentioned are super bland. Too bad Jensen Ackles had scheduling conflicts. He would have been perfect!

  7. i think they are trying to play off the gosh darn golly gee Chuck type for John. i'd rather see Zach Levi.

  8. I forgot to say - I'm actually getting really sick of his character (and Pam) on the Office. I never thought I would get sick of anything on that show.

  9. Kind of reminds me of John Ritter as Captain Avenger...

  10. That would be the bizzaro version of Captain America.

  11. Ms cool, I second that. I think they need to give the background characters more storylines(like creed and kelly and ryan), him and pam bore me to tears.

  12. The office is still a good show though, and I actually think he would be an ok captain america - but i also havent been a huge fan of the comic so what do i know! (its a comic, right?) :)

  13. IMO He has the face but not the body. He'd have to bulk up a bit I think. Unless they are doing something different with the character. You never know. I think he does need to take a break from the romcom genre though and this role may be just the thing to help.

  14. I'm not a comic fan. I've never seen even one Spider Man movie and only Super Man with Christopher Reeve.

I thought John Krasinski was cute in "It's Complicated."

  15. C'mon, I think he'd be great in that role!

But I agree with others here that The Office needs to delve WAY more into other story lines. Creed, Meredith, Phyllis and Kevin are all ripe for development, and potentially very funny.

Agreed. Like who would have imagined Michael Keaton as Batman?

I love The Office and love Krasinski as Jim, but I just don't think he has much range.

Bad choice in my opinion. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

By the way, Ent Lawyer, I love CDAN. I was wondering... is there a way that I can send you a private message. I have a question not related to this thread, but would prefer to ask it privately. Not sure how to contact you, though. Please advise, thanks...

  18. geez, give the guy a chance to be someone other than jim halpert. pretty unfair to say he can only do one thing. i'm not saying he can or can't---but he deserves a chance, doesn't he? he's an ACTOR, after all.

  19. jensen ackles would be amazing as captain america.

krasinski as captain america, no. as stretch armstrong, yes.

  20. I don't envy whoever has to cast Captain America. Whoever it is has to have the body, clean looks and the leadership gravitas of the character. That gravitas isn't something that can be taught or acted. You either have it or you don't. The only actor I can think of that might have it is Matt Damon but he is probably too old (the character is mid 20s to early 30s at most).

  21. i like jk...but i can't help but see him as a wuss. him as a superhero...eeep, no way.

  22. Honestly, I'll take a wait and see attitude towards this.
After all, Tobey McGuire as Spiderman and (I'm ashamed to admit this) Tom Cruise as Lestat were both OMG what the hell were they thinking moments for me, and I was proven wrong.
Bulk him up, give him a workable script, and we'll just have to see. He's an actor after all.

  23. I'm still hoping for some sort of miracle in scheduling for Jensen Ackles to play Captain America, as I think he is ideal. I really don't think Krasinski suits the part.

  24. I was a teen when Keaton was Batman, and okay with it but I NEVER liked Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker or Spidey....nope....but that's just my opinion...I could be wrong.

  25. Jax,
I think you may be right. It's as if they thought, 'Well, Brendan Fraser is too far gone now - so who else has that aw-shucks goshness?'

I have no clue if he's right for it, as I've never read the comics. But hell, why not give it a casting twist? It's worked for other superheroes.

  26. I never liked Tobey Maguire as Spiderman and I'm actually surprised people are mentioning him as an good example.

And just NO for John Krasinski. He's cute, but not right in my opinion.

  27. We already have a Captain America, his name is Stephen Tyrone Colbert.

John plays such a wink wink critic
    not a good fit

  30. He needs a nose job really bad. That's bigass honker there.

  31. Ugh, no.

JKras reminds me of the kind of guys I know in real life who are ineffectual and wimpy but think they are super-attractive and intelligent but just are Not.

  32. And and to whoever slammed Sam Worthington - whatevs, I think he is all-American-ideal perfect (love how no AMerican guys seem to be able to pull this off anymore...) but I think he can act, too...totally surprised me with his subtlety. Total leading man babe.

  33. I wanted Jensen Ackles too! Team Dean! :(

  34. I love him. I am not sure about Captain America, either. We'll have to wait and see?

  35. JK can't act, and while I usually think men get better looking as they age, he is getting worse and worse. He used to look like a taller Matt Damon, but now he just looks like a gayer taller fatter Matt Damon. Pass.

  36. Ummm. No. That's just wrong.

I agree that JK won't be the best guy as Capt America. I want Jensen Ackles to play this role!
