M.I.A. To Perform On Her Due Date

So, in case you didn't know, the Grammy Awards are this weekend. Sunday to be exact. Lots of performers at the show. Some I like, some like Justin Timberlake I could take a pass. Actually I will probably just take a pass on the whole show and watch the highlights on the internet. It's sad isn't it? Back in the day before TiVo and YouTube we actually had to sit through all of the awards shows to see the good parts which were few and far between. The only time you didn't have to sit in front of the television and watch was during the Video Music Awards because MTV played them 18 times a day for the next six months. Oh, and your other option was to videotape the show and then try and watch it in quick time and hopefully you would stop it in time to hear the good parts and also that you got around to watching it before you decided to record something else over it.

Well, performing this weekend at the awards will be M.I.A. The funny thing is that her due date is also the day of the show. I'm guessing she won't be doing a lot of dancing up on the stage. I do know that she seems to realize that the life of an artist is small and you may never be invited to perform at the Grammy Awards again so she is taking advantage of it. I don't think anything will happen to her unborn child and if she gave birth right there at the show, people would remember her forever.

  1. She might do a lot of dancing in hopes that it induces labor. Then she can go straight to the hospital when she is finished.

  2. Always the shot at JT. :( At least dude has talent unlike that hermy mess that he dates.LOL

I'll check in and out on the Grammy's Sunday. It's sucked for years now so it's not worth giving up my Sunday night shows to tune in all night.

  4. I love TIVO, it saves me from watching commercial and all the extra crap these awards dish out!

  5. I haven't heard of her either. In any case, I think it's pretty cool she's performing on her due date. It is probably a once-in-a-lifetime thing to perform at the Grammy Awards and if she's healthy, there's no reason a pregnant person (even heavily pregnant) should treat herself like an invalid.

  6. I don't know who she is, either, but I'm a little surprised the Grammy people would schedule her with such a high probability she won't be able to perform. Maybe they have a backstage ob/gyn who can check her out before she goes on.

  7. Never heard of her either.

Future Sexy Back whatever-the-hell CD is actually a good for car dancing on long road trips.

Did anybody catch Katie Couric's Grammy special last night? I thought it was pretty good, especially the Lil Wayne segment. Lil Wayne referred to KC as Miss Katie. Cute.

  8. LOL at Ror. Believe me, you don't have to know who any of these people are in order to comment.

MIA will be fine. I think this is her first (?) and most first babies are a week or two late. And I think it's spectacular that the Grammys are having her perform. Pregnancy is NOT a disability.

  9. GladysKravitz, I believe you that pregnancy isn't a disability (I've never been pregnant myself), but I am surprised the Grammy people don't think it is.

I am SO freaking obsessed with MIA. I admire her work ethic. Due dates are bunk anyway. Sure, I had my kid three days before the due date, but most are highly inaccurate.

  11. I really like M.I.A. That "Paper Planes" song is quite catchy.

Sitting through the awards shows wasn't a problem "back then", because they used to be good. Now, not so much.

  12. MIA is a flipping goddess. Forshame on you guys who don't know her *tut*

Harriet, that's the one with the Clash "Straight to Hell" sample. The furore of the gun noises over here, oy.

  13. Isn't M.I.A. also nominated for an Oscar for her Slumdog Millionaire song? Does that mean she won't be performing there?

I actually watch the Oscars. Maybe she will have the baby and recover quickly enough to appear there?

Or is this just wishful thinking?

  14. she's made it clear on her blog that she'll be using the grammy performance to bring attention to the genocide going on in sri lanka.

this isn't a pet "cause" for her, her family is from sri lanka (her father is a freedom fighter / "militant").

so i say good on her!

  15. jindi - That makes me love her even more. Its wonderful that she is thinking of others during a time that most famous people only think of their selves (Brangie included, it seems).

Women are usually a little over the due date on their first child anyway, from what i've been told (i don't know if thats true or not).

  17. Thanks jindi - she has a good head on her shoulders. It puts most/all the other famous singers her age to shame.

  18. I've never heard of this M.I.A. either. I've heard of Mya but I don't know this singer. I'll have to find her on YouTube and also will try to watch the Grammys.

I miss the good old days when it was all about the talent.
